1 Now the Philistines fought against Israel: and the men of Israel fled from before the Philistines, and fell down slain in mount Gilboa.

1 Los filisteos, pues, pelearon contra Israel, y los de Israel huyeron delante de los filisteos y cayeron muertos en el monte Gilboa.

2 And the Philistines followed hard upon Saul and upon his sons; and the Philistines slew Jonathan, and Abinadab, and Malchi-shua, Saul's sons.

2 Y los filisteos persiguieron muy de cerca a Saúl y a sus hijos, y mataron a Jonatán, y a Abinadab y a Malquisúa, hijos de Saúl.

3 And the battle went sore against Saul, and the archers hit him; and he was sore wounded of the archers.

3 Y arreció la batalla contra Saúl, y le alcanzaron los flecheros; y fue gravemente herido por los flecheros.

4 Then said Saul unto his armourbearer, Draw thy sword, and thrust me through therewith; lest these uncircumcised come and thrust me through, and abuse me. But his armourbearer would not; for he was sore afraid. Therefore Saul took a sword, and fell upon it.

4 Entonces dijo Saúl a su escudero: Saca tu espada y traspásame con ella, para que no vengan estos incircuncisos, y me traspasen y me escarnezcan. Pero su escudero no quería, porque tenía gran temor. Entonces tomó Saúl la espada y se echó sobre ella.

5 And when his armourbearer saw that Saul was dead, he fell likewise upon his sword, and died with him.

5 Y al ver su escudero a Saúl muerto, él también se echó sobre su espada y murió con él.

6 So Saul died, and his three sons, and his armourbearer, and all his men, that same day together.

6 Así murió Saúl en aquel día, juntamente con sus tres hijos, y su escudero y todos sus hombres.

7 And when the men of Israel that were on the other side of the valley, and they that were on the other side Jordan, saw that the men of Israel fled, and that Saul and his sons were dead, they forsook the cities, and fled; and the Philistines came and dwelt in them.

7 Y los de Israel que eran del otro lado del valle y del otro lado del Jordán, al ver que Israel había huido y que Saúl y sus hijos habían muerto, abandonaron sus ciudades y huyeron; y los filisteos vinieron y habitaron en ellas.

8 And it came to pass on the morrow, when the Philistines came to strip the slain, that they found Saul and his three sons fallen in mount Gilboa.

8 Y aconteció al siguiente día que los filisteos fueron a despojar a los muertos y hallaron a Saúl y a sus tres hijos tendidos en el monte Gilboa.

9 And they cut off his head, and stripped off his armour, and sent into the land of the Philistines round about, to publish it in the house of their idols, and among the people.

9 Y le cortaron la cabeza y lo despojaron de las armas; y enviaron mensajeros por toda la tierra de los filisteos, para que lo anunciaran en el templo de sus ídolos y al pueblo.

10 And they put his armour in the house of Ashtaroth: and they fastened his body to the wall of Beth-shan.

10 Y pusieron sus armas en el templo de Astarot, y colgaron su cuerpo en el muro de Bet-sán.

11 And when the inhabitants of Jabesh-gilead heard of that which the Philistines had done to Saul;

11 Mas cuando los de Jabes de Galaad oyeron lo que los filisteos habían hecho a Saúl,

12 All the valiant men arose, and went all night, and took the body of Saul and the bodies of his sons from the wall of Beth-shan, and came to Jabesh, and burnt them there.

12 todos los hombres valientes se levantaron, y caminaron toda aquella noche y quitaron el cuerpo de Saúl y los cuerpos de sus hijos del muro de Bet-sán; y fueron a Jabes y los quemaron allí.

13 And they took their bones, and buried them under a tree at Jabesh, and fasted seven days.

13 Y tomando sus huesos, los sepultaron debajo de un árbol en Jabes y ayunaron siete días.
