1 And David said in his heart, I shall now perish one day by the hand of Saul: there is nothing better for me than that I should speedily escape into the land of the Philistines; and Saul shall despair of me, to seek me any more in any coast of Israel: so shall I escape out of his hand.

1 Y dijo David en su corazón: Ahora bien, seré muerto algún día por la mano de Saúl; nada, por tanto, me será mejor que fugarme a la tierra de los filisteos, para que Saúl deje de ocuparse de mí y no me ande buscando más por todo el territorio de Israel, y así escaparé de sus manos.

2 And David arose, and he passed over with the six hundred men that were with him unto Achish, the son of Maoch, king of Gath.

2 Se levantó, pues, David, y con los seiscientos hombres que tenía consigo se pasó a Aquis hijo de Maoc, rey de Gat.

3 And David dwelt with Achish at Gath, he and his men, every man with his household, even David with his two wives, Ahinoam the Jezreelitess, and Abigail the Carmelitess, Nabal's wife.

3 Y moró David con Aquis en Gat, él y sus hombres, cada uno con su familia; David con sus dos esposas, Ahinoam, la jezreelita, y Abigail, la que fue esposa de Nabal, el de Carmel.

4 And it was told Saul that David was fled to Gath: and he sought no more again for him.

4 Y vino la nueva a Saúl de que David había huido a Gat, y no lo buscó más.

5 And David said unto Achish, If I have now found grace in thine eyes, let them give me a place in some town in the country, that I may dwell there: for why should thy servant dwell in the royal city with thee?

5 Y David dijo a Aquis: Si he hallado ahora gracia ante tus ojos, séame dado lugar en alguna de las aldeas de la región para que habite allí, porque, ¿ha de morar tu siervo contigo en la ciudad real?

6 Then Achish gave him Ziklag that day: wherefore Ziklag pertaineth unto the kings of Judah unto this day.

6 Y Aquis le dio aquel día la ciudad de Siclag. Por eso, Siclag fue de los reyes de Judá hasta hoy.

7 And the time that David dwelt in the country of the Philistines was a full year and four months.

7 Y el número de los días que David habitó en la tierra de los filisteos fue un año y cuatro meses.

8 And David and his men went up, and invaded the Geshurites, and the Gezrites, and the Amalekites: for those nations were of old the inhabitants of the land, as thou goest to Shur, even unto the land of Egypt.

8 Y subía David con sus hombres y hacían incursiones contra los gesuritas, y contra los gerzeos y contra los amalecitas; porque desde hacía largo tiempo estos habitaban la región, desde donde se va a Shur hasta la tierra de Egipto.

9 And David smote the land, and left neither man nor woman alive, and took away the sheep, and the oxen, and the asses, and the camels, and the apparel, and returned, and came to Achish.

9 Y David atacaba el país y no dejaba con vida ni hombre ni mujer; y se llevaba las ovejas, y las vacas, y los asnos, y los camellos y las ropas, y volvía y venía a Aquis.

10 And Achish said, Whither have ye made a road to day? And David said, Against the south of Judah, and against the south of the Jerahmeelites, and against the south of the Kenites.

10 Y decía Aquis: ¿Dónde habéis incursionado hoy? Y David decía: Al sur de Judá, o al sur de Jerameel o al sur de los ceneos.

11 And David saved neither man nor woman alive, to bring tidings to Gath, saying, Lest they should tell on us, saying, So did David, and so will be his manner all the while he dwelleth in the country of the Philistines.

11 Ni hombre ni mujer dejaba llegar David con vida a Gat, porque decía: No sea que den aviso de nosotros, diciendo: Esto hizo David. Y esta fue su costumbre todo el tiempo que moró en la tierra de los filisteos.

12 And Achish believed David, saying, He hath made his people Israel utterly to abhor him; therefore he shall be my servant for ever.

12 Y Aquis creía a David, diciendo así: Él se ha hecho abominable ante su pueblo Israel, y será mi siervo para siempre.
