1 Then came David to Nob to Ahimelech the priest: and Ahimelech was afraid at the meeting of David, and said unto him, Why art thou alone, and no man with thee?

1 Y llegó David a Nob, al sacerdote Ahimelec; y se atemorizó Ahimelec de su encuentro y le dijo: ¿Cómo vienes tú solo, y nadie contigo?

2 And David said unto Ahimelech the priest, The king hath commanded me a business, and hath said unto me, Let no man know any thing of the business whereabout I send thee, and what I have commanded thee: and I have appointed my servants to such and such a place.

2 Y respondió David al sacerdote Ahimelec: El rey me encomendó un asunto y me dijo: Nadie sepa cosa alguna de este asunto al que yo te envío y que yo te he encomendado; y yo les señalé a los criados un cierto lugar.

3 Now therefore what is under thine hand? give me five loaves of bread in mine hand, or what there is present.

3 Ahora, pues, ¿qué tienes a mano? Dame cinco panes, o lo que haya.

4 And the priest answered David, and said, There is no common bread under mine hand, but there is hallowed bread; if the young men have kept themselves at least from women.

4 Y el sacerdote respondió a David y dijo: No tengo pan común a la mano; solamente tengo pan sagrado, pero te lo daré si al menos los criados se han abstenido de mujer.

5 And David answered the priest, and said unto him, Of a truth women have been kept from us about these three days, since I came out, and the vessels of the young men are holy, and the bread is in a manner common, yea, though it were sanctified this day in the vessel.

5 Y David respondió al sacerdote y le dijo: En verdad las mujeres han estado lejos de nosotros desde anteayer cuando salí, y los vasos de los jóvenes están santos, aunque el viaje es profano; ¿cuánto más no estarán santos hoy sus vasos?

6 So the priest gave him hallowed bread: for there was no bread there but the shewbread, that was taken from before the LORD, to put hot bread in the day when it was taken away.

6 Así el sacerdote le dio el pan sagrado, porque allí no había otro pan, sino los panes de la proposición, los cuales habían sido quitados de delante de Jehová, para que se pusiesen panes calientes el día en que los otros fuesen quitados.

7 Now a certain man of the servants of Saul was there that day, detained before the LORD; and his name was Doeg, an Edomite, the chiefest of the herdmen that belonged to Saul.

7 Aquel día estaba allí uno de los siervos de Saúl detenido delante de Jehová, cuyo nombre era Doeg, el edomita, el principal de los pastores de Saúl.

8 And David said unto Ahimelech, And is there not here under thine hand spear or sword? for I have neither brought my sword nor my weapons with me, because the king's business required haste.

8 Y David dijo a Ahimelec: ¿No tienes aquí a mano una lanza o una espada? Porque no tomé en mi mano ni mi espada ni mis armas, por cuanto el asunto del rey era apremiante.

9 And the priest said, The sword of Goliath the Philistine, whom thou slewest in the valley of Elah, behold, it is here wrapped in a cloth behind the ephod: if thou wilt take that, take it: for there is no other save that here. And David said, There is none like that; give it me.

9 Y el sacerdote respondió: La espada de Goliat el filisteo, al que tú venciste en el valle de Ela, está aquí envuelta en un paño detrás del efod; si tú quieres tomarla, tómala; pues aquí no hay otra sino esa. Y dijo David: Ninguna como ella; dámela.

10 And David arose, and fled that day for fear of Saul, and went to Achish the king of Gath.

10 Y levantándose David aquel día, huyó de la presencia de Saúl, y se fue a Aquis, rey de Gat.

11 And the servants of Achish said unto him, Is not this David the king of the land? did they not sing one to another of him in dances, saying, Saul hath slain his thousands, and David his ten thousands?

11 Y los siervos de Aquis le dijeron: ¿No es este David, el rey de la tierra? ¿No es este de quien cantaban en danzas, diciendo: Hirió Saúl a sus miles, y David a sus diez miles?

12 And David laid up these words in his heart, and was sore afraid of Achish the king of Gath.

12 Y David puso en su corazón estas palabras, y tuvo gran temor de Aquis, rey de Gat.

13 And he changed his behaviour before them, and feigned himself mad in their hands, and scrabbled on the doors of the gate, and let his spittle fall down upon his beard.

13 Y cambió su modo de proceder delante de ellos, y se fingió loco entre ellos; y escribía trazos en las puertas de la entrada y dejaba correr su saliva por su barba.

14 Then said Achish unto his servants, Lo, ye see the man is mad: wherefore then have ye brought him to me?

14 Y dijo Aquis a sus siervos: He aquí, estáis viendo un hombre demente; ¿por qué me lo habéis traído?

15 Have I need of mad men, that ye have brought this fellow to play the mad man in my presence? shall this fellow come into my house?

15 ¿Acaso me faltan a mí locos, para que hayáis traído a este a fin de que hiciese de loco delante de mí? ¿Había de entrar este en mi casa?
