1 And David fled from Naioth in Ramah, and came and said before Jonathan, What have I done? what is mine iniquity? and what is my sin before thy father, that he seeketh my life?

1 Y David huyó de Naiot, en Ramá, y fue delante de Jonatán y dijo: ¿Qué he hecho yo? ¿Cuál es mi maldad, o cuál mi pecado contra tu padre, para que él busque mi vida?

2 And he said unto him, God forbid; thou shalt not die: behold, my father will do nothing either great or small, but that he will shew it me: and why should my father hide this thing from me? it is not so.

2 Y él le dijo: De ninguna manera; no morirás. He aquí que mi padre ninguna cosa hará, ni grande ni pequeña, que no me la descubra; ¿por qué, pues, me ha de encubrir mi padre este asunto? No será así.

3 And David sware moreover, and said, Thy father certainly knoweth that I have found grace in thine eyes; and he saith, Let not Jonathan know this, lest he be grieved: but truly as the LORD liveth, and as thy soul liveth, there is but a step between me and death.

3 Y David volvió a jurar, diciendo: Tu padre sabe claramente que yo he hallado gracia delante de tus ojos y dirá: No sepa esto Jonatán, para que no tenga pesar. Ciertamente, vive Jehová y vive tu alma, que apenas estoy a un paso de la muerte.

4 Then said Jonathan unto David, Whatsoever thy soul desireth, I will even do it for thee.

4 Y Jonatán dijo a David: Lo que desee tu alma lo haré por ti.

5 And David said unto Jonathan, Behold, to morrow is the new moon, and I should not fail to sit with the king at meat: but let me go, that I may hide myself in the field unto the third day at even.

5 Y David respondió a Jonatán: He aquí que mañana es luna nueva, y yo acostumbro sentarme con el rey a comer; pero tú dejarás que me esconda en el campo hasta el atardecer del tercer día.

6 If thy father at all miss me, then say, David earnestly asked leave of me that he might run to Beth-lehem his city: for there is a yearly sacrifice there for all the family.

6 Si tu padre hace mención de mí, dirás: Me rogó mucho que lo dejase ir aprisa a Belén, su ciudad, porque todos los de su familia tienen allá el sacrificio anual.

7 If he say thus, It is well; thy servant shall have peace: but if he be very wroth, then be sure that evil is determined by him.

7 Si él dice: Está bien, entonces paz tendrá tu siervo; pero si se enoja, sabrás que la maldad ya está decidida de parte de él.

8 Therefore thou shalt deal kindly with thy servant; for thou hast brought thy servant into a covenant of the LORD with thee: notwithstanding, if there be in me iniquity, slay me thyself; for why shouldest thou bring me to thy father?

8 Harás, pues, misericordia con tu siervo, ya que has hecho que tu siervo entre en un pacto de Jehová contigo; y si hay maldad en mí, mátame tú, pues, ¿qué necesidad hay de llevarme hasta tu padre?

9 And Jonathan said, Far be it from thee: for if I knew certainly that evil were determined by my father to come upon thee, then would not I tell it thee?

9 Y Jonatán le dijo: ¡Nunca tal te suceda! Antes bien, si yo me entero de que mi padre ha determinado que la maldad venga sobre ti, ¿no habré yo de descubrírtelo?

10 Then said David to Jonathan, Who shall tell me? or what if thy father answer thee roughly?

10 Dijo entonces David a Jonatán: ¿Quién me dará aviso? O, ¿qué pasará si tu padre te responde ásperamente?

11 And Jonathan said unto David, Come, and let us go out into the field. And they went out both of them into the field.

11 Y Jonatán dijo a David: Ven, salgamos al campo. Y salieron ambos al campo.

12 And Jonathan said unto David, O LORD God of Israel, when I have sounded my father about to morrow any time, or the third day, and, behold, if there be good toward David, and I then send not unto thee, and shew it thee;

12 Entonces dijo Jonatán a David: Vive Jehová Dios de Israel que cuando le haya yo preguntado a mi padre mañana a esta hora, o pasado mañana, y he aquí si él se muestra bien para con David, y si entonces no envío a ti y te lo descubro,

13 The LORD do so and much more to Jonathan: but if it please my father to do thee evil, then I will shew it thee, and send thee away, that thou mayest go in peace: and the LORD be with thee, as he hath been with my father.

13 Jehová haga así a Jonatán y aun le añada; pero si mi padre quiere hacerte mal, también te lo descubriré y te despediré y te irás en paz. Y esté Jehová contigo, como estuvo con mi padre.

14 And thou shalt not only while yet I live shew me the kindness of the LORD, that I die not:

14 Y si yo aún vivo, haz conmigo misericordia de Jehová para que yo no muera;

15 But also thou shalt not cut off thy kindness from my house for ever: no, not when the LORD hath cut off the enemies of David every one from the face of the earth.

15 ni quites perpetuamente tu misericordia de mi casa aun cuando Jehová desarraigue de la tierra uno por uno los enemigos de David.

16 So Jonathan made a covenant with the house of David, saying, Let the LORD even require it at the hand of David's enemies.

16 Así hizo Jonatán un pacto con la casa de David, diciendo: Requiéralo Jehová de la mano de los enemigos de David.

17 And Jonathan caused David to swear again, because he loved him: for he loved him as he loved his own soul.

17 Y volvió Jonatán a jurar a David, porque le amaba, pues le amaba como a sí mismo.

18 Then Jonathan said to David, To morrow is the new moon: and thou shalt be missed, because thy seat will be empty.

18 Le dijo luego Jonatán: Mañana es luna nueva, y tú serás echado de menos, porque tu asiento estará vacío.

19 And when thou hast stayed three days, then thou shalt go down quickly, and come to the place where thou didst hide thyself when the business was in hand, and shalt remain by the stone Ezel.

19 Estarás, pues, tres días, y descenderás rápidamente y vendrás al lugar donde estabas escondido el día de aquel suceso, y esperarás junto a la piedra de Ezel;

20 And I will shoot three arrows on the side thereof, as though I shot at a mark.

20 y yo tiraré tres saetas hacia aquel lado, como ejercitándome al blanco.

21 And, behold, I will send a lad, saying, Go, find out the arrows. If I expressly say unto the lad, Behold, the arrows are on this side of thee, take them; then come thou: for there is peace to thee, and no hurt; as the LORD liveth.

21 Y he aquí, enviaré al criado, diciéndole: Ve, busca las saetas. Y si digo al muchacho: He aquí las saetas están más acá de ti, tómalas; tú vendrás, porque hay paz para ti, y nada malo hay, ¡vive Jehová!

22 But if I say thus unto the young man, Behold, the arrows are beyond thee; go thy way: for the LORD hath sent thee away.

22 Pero si yo digo al muchacho así: He allí las saetas están más allá de ti; vete, porque Jehová te hace partir.

23 And as touching the matter which thou and I have spoken of, behold, the LORD be between thee and me for ever.

23 Y en cuanto a las palabras que yo y tú hemos hablado, he aquí, Jehová esté entre tú y yo para siempre.

24 So David hid himself in the field: and when the new moon was come, the king sat him down to eat meat.

24 David, pues, se escondió en el campo, y cuando llegó la luna nueva, se sentó el rey a comer.

25 And the king sat upon his seat, as at other times, even upon a seat by the wall: and Jonathan arose, and Abner sat by Saul's side, and David's place was empty.

25 Y el rey se sentó en su silla, como solía, en el asiento junto a la pared; y Jonatán se levantó, y se sentó Abner al lado de Saúl, y el lugar de David estaba vacío.

26 Nevertheless Saul spake not any thing that day: for he thought, Something hath befallen him, he is not clean; surely he is not clean.

26 Pero aquel día Saúl no dijo nada, porque se decía: Le habrá acontecido algo y no está limpio; seguramente no está purificado.

27 And it came to pass on the morrow, which was the second day of the month, that David's place was empty: and Saul said unto Jonathan his son, Wherefore cometh not the son of Jesse to meat, neither yesterday, nor to day?

27 Al día siguiente, el segundo día de la luna nueva, aconteció que nuevamente el asiento de David estaba vacío. Y Saúl dijo a su hijo Jonatán: ¿Por qué no ha venido a comer el hijo de Isaí ni ayer ni hoy?

28 And Jonathan answered Saul, David earnestly asked leave of me to go to Beth-lehem:

28 Y Jonatán respondió a Saúl: David me pidió encarecidamente que le dejase ir a Belén.

29 And he said, Let me go, I pray thee; for our family hath a sacrifice in the city; and my brother, he hath commanded me to be there: and now, if I have found favour in thine eyes, let me get away, I pray thee, and see my brethren. Therefore he cometh not unto the king's table.

29 Y dijo: Te ruego que me dejes ir, porque los de nuestra familia tenemos sacrificio en la ciudad, y mi hermano mismo me lo ha mandado; por tanto, si he hallado gracia ante tus ojos, permíteme ir ahora a visitar a mis hermanos. Por esto no ha venido a la mesa del rey.

30 Then Saul's anger was kindled against Jonathan, and he said unto him, Thou son of the perverse rebellious woman, do not I know that thou hast chosen the son of Jesse to thine own confusion, and unto the confusion of thy mother's nakedness?

30 Entonces Saúl se enardeció contra Jonatán y le dijo: Hijo de la perversa y rebelde, ¿no sé yo que tú has elegido al hijo de Isaí para vergüenza tuya y para la vergüenza de la desnudez de tu madre?

31 For as long as the son of Jesse liveth upon the ground, thou shalt not be established, nor thy kingdom. Wherefore now send and fetch him unto me, for he shall surely die.

31 Porque todo el tiempo que el hijo de Isaí viva sobre la tierra, ni tú estarás firme, ni tu reino. Envía, pues, ahora, y tráemelo, porque ha de morir.

32 And Jonathan answered Saul his father, and said unto him, Wherefore shall he be slain? what hath he done?

32 Y Jonatán respondió a su padre Saúl y le dijo: ¿Por qué ha de morir? ¿Qué ha hecho?

33 And Saul cast a javelin at him to smite him: whereby Jonathan knew that it was determined of his father to slay David.

33 Entonces Saúl le arrojó una lanza para herirlo, por lo que entendió Jonatán que su padre estaba decidido a matar a David.

34 So Jonathan arose from the table in fierce anger, and did eat no meat the second day of the month: for he was grieved for David, because his father had done him shame.

34 Y se levantó Jonatán de la mesa con exaltada ira, y no comió nada el segundo día de la luna nueva, pues estaba afligido a causa de David, porque su padre le había afrentado.

35 And it came to pass in the morning, that Jonathan went out into the field at the time appointed with David, and a little lad with him.

35 Al otro día, de mañana, salió Jonatán al campo, al tiempo acordado con David, y un muchacho pequeño con él.

36 And he said unto his lad, Run, find out now the arrows which I shoot. And as the lad ran, he shot an arrow beyond him.

36 Y dijo al muchacho: Corre y busca las saetas que yo tire. Y mientras el muchacho iba corriendo, él tiraba la saeta de modo que pasara más allá de él.

37 And when the lad was come to the place of the arrow which Jonathan had shot, Jonathan cried after the lad, and said, Is not the arrow beyond thee?

37 Y al llegar el muchacho adonde estaba la saeta que Jonatán había tirado, Jonatán gritó al muchacho, diciendo: ¿No está la saeta más allá de ti?

38 And Jonathan cried after the lad, Make speed, haste, stay not. And Jonathan's lad gathered up the arrows, and came to his master.

38 Y volvió a gritar Jonatán al muchacho: Corre, date prisa, no te detengas. Y el muchacho de Jonatán recogió las saetas y regresó a su señor.

39 But the lad knew not any thing: only Jonathan and David knew the matter.

39 Pero ninguna cosa entendió el muchacho; solamente Jonatán y David entendían el asunto.

40 And Jonathan gave his artillery unto his lad, and said unto him, Go, carry them to the city.

40 Y dio Jonatán sus armas al muchacho y le dijo: Vete y llévalas a la ciudad.

41 And as soon as the lad was gone, David arose out of a place toward the south, and fell on his face to the ground, and bowed himself three times: and they kissed one another, and wept one with another, until David exceeded.

41 Y cuando el muchacho se hubo ido, se levantó David del lado del sur y se inclinó tres veces postrándose hasta la tierra; y besándose el uno al otro, lloraron el uno con el otro, aunque David lloró más.

42 And Jonathan said to David, Go in peace, forasmuch as we have sworn both of us in the name of the LORD, saying, The LORD be between me and thee, and between my seed and thy seed for ever. And he arose and departed: and Jonathan went into the city.

42 Y Jonatán dijo a David: Vete en paz, porque ambos hemos jurado en el nombre de Jehová, diciendo: Jehová esté entre tú y yo, entre mi descendencia y tu descendencia, para siempre. Y él se levantó y se fue, y Jonatán volvió a la ciudad.
