1 And the LORD said unto Samuel, How long wilt thou mourn for Saul, seeing I have rejected him from reigning over Israel? fill thine horn with oil, and go, I will send thee to Jesse the Beth-lehemite: for I have provided me a king among his sons.

1 Y dijo Jehová a Samuel: ¿Hasta cuándo has tú de llorar por Saúl, habiéndolo yo desechado para que no reine sobre Israel? Llena tu cuerno de aceite y ve; te enviaré a Isaí de Belén, porque de entre sus hijos me he provisto de un rey.

2 And Samuel said, How can I go? if Saul hear it, he will kill me. And the LORD said, Take an heifer with thee, and say, I am come to sacrifice to the LORD.

2 Y dijo Samuel: ¿Cómo iré? Si Saúl lo llega a saber, me matará. Jehová respondió: Toma contigo una becerra de la vacada y di: A ofrecer sacrificio a Jehová he venido.

3 And call Jesse to the sacrifice, and I will shew thee what thou shalt do: and thou shalt anoint unto me him whom I name unto thee.

3 Y llama a Isaí al sacrificio, y yo te enseñaré lo que has de hacer; y me ungirás al que yo te diga.

4 And Samuel did that which the LORD spake, and came to Beth-lehem. And the elders of the town trembled at his coming, and said, Comest thou peaceably?

4 Hizo, pues, Samuel como le dijo Jehová; y cuando llegó a Belén, los ancianos de la ciudad le salieron a recibir con miedo, y dijeron: ¿Es pacífica tu venida?

5 And he said, Peaceably: I am come to sacrifice unto the LORD: sanctify yourselves, and come with me to the sacrifice. And he sanctified Jesse and his sons, and called them to the sacrifice.

5 Y él respondió: En paz. Vengo a ofrecer sacrificio a Jehová; santificaos y venid conmigo al sacrificio. Entonces, santificó él a Isaí y a sus hijos, y los llamó al sacrificio.

6 And it came to pass, when they were come, that he looked on Eliab, and said, Surely the LORD's anointed is before him.

6 Y aconteció que cuando ellos vinieron, él vio a Eliab y se dijo: De cierto delante de Jehová está su ungido.

7 But the LORD said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the LORD seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart.

7 Y Jehová respondió a Samuel: No mires a su parecer ni a lo grande de su estatura, porque yo lo desecho; porque Jehová no mira lo que el hombre mira, pues el hombre mira lo que está delante de sus ojos, pero Jehová mira el corazón.

8 Then Jesse called Abinadab, and made him pass before Samuel. And he said, Neither hath the LORD chosen this.

8 Entonces llamó Isaí a Abinadab y le hizo pasar delante de Samuel, quien dijo: Tampoco a este ha elegido Jehová.

9 Then Jesse made Shammah to pass by. And he said, Neither hath the LORD chosen this.

9 Hizo luego pasar Isaí a Sama. Y él dijo: Tampoco a este ha elegido Jehová.

10 Again, Jesse made seven of his sons to pass before Samuel. And Samuel said unto Jesse, The LORD hath not chosen these.

10 E hizo pasar Isaí a siete de sus hijos delante de Samuel; pero Samuel dijo a Isaí: Jehová no ha elegido a estos.

11 And Samuel said unto Jesse, Are here all thy children? And he said, There remaineth yet the youngest, and, behold, he keepeth the sheep. And Samuel said unto Jesse, Send and fetch him: for we will not sit down till he come hither.

11 Entonces dijo Samuel a Isaí: ¿Son estos todos tus hijos? Y él respondió: Aún queda el menor, que apacienta las ovejas. Y dijo Samuel a Isaí: Envía por él, porque no nos sentaremos a la mesa hasta que él venga aquí.

12 And he sent, and brought him in. Now he was ruddy, and withal of a beautiful countenance, and goodly to look to. And the LORD said, Arise, anoint him: for this is he.

12 Envió, pues, por él, y le hizo entrar. Y era rubio, de ojos hermosos y de buen parecer. Entonces Jehová dijo: Levántate y úngelo, porque este es.

13 Then Samuel took the horn of oil, and anointed him in the midst of his brethren: and the Spirit of the LORD came upon David from that day forward. So Samuel rose up, and went to Ramah.

13 Y Samuel tomó el cuerno del aceite y lo ungió en medio de sus hermanos. Y desde aquel día en adelante el espíritu de Jehová vino con gran poder sobre David. Luego Samuel se levantó y volvió a Ramá.

14 But the Spirit of the LORD departed from Saul, and an evil spirit from the LORD troubled him.

14 Y el espíritu de Jehová se apartó de Saúl, y le atormentaba un espíritu malo de parte de Jehová.

15 And Saul's servants said unto him, Behold now, an evil spirit from God troubleth thee.

15 Y los criados de Saúl le dijeron: He aquí ahora, un espíritu malo de parte de Dios te atormenta.

16 Let our lord now command thy servants, which are before thee, to seek out a man, who is a cunning player on an harp: and it shall come to pass, when the evil spirit from God is upon thee, that he shall play with his hand, and thou shalt be well.

16 Diga, pues, nuestro señor a tus siervos que están delante de ti que busquen a alguno que sepa tocar el arpa, para que cuando esté sobre ti el espíritu malo de parte de Dios, él toque con su mano, y tengas alivio.

17 And Saul said unto his servants, Provide me now a man that can play well, and bring him to me.

17 Y Saúl respondió a sus criados: Buscadme, pues, ahora alguno que toque bien, y traédmelo.

18 Then answered one of the servants, and said, Behold, I have seen a son of Jesse the Beth-lehemite, that is cunning in playing, and a mighty valiant man, and a man of war, and prudent in matters, and a comely person, and the LORD is with him.

18 Entonces uno de los criados respondió, diciendo: He aquí, yo he visto a un hijo de Isaí de Belén, que sabe tocar, y es valiente y vigoroso y hombre de guerra, prudente en sus palabras y hermoso, y Jehová está con él.

19 Wherefore Saul sent messengers unto Jesse, and said, Send me David thy son, which is with the sheep.

19 Y Saúl envió mensajeros a Isaí, diciendo: Envíame a David, tu hijo, el que está con las ovejas.

20 And Jesse took an ass laden with bread, and a bottle of wine, and a kid, and sent them by David his son unto Saul.

20 Y tomó Isaí un asno cargado de pan, y una vasija de vino y un cabrito, y los envió a Saúl por medio de David, su hijo.

21 And David came to Saul, and stood before him: and he loved him greatly; and he became his armourbearer.

21 Y David fue a Saúl y estuvo delante de él; y él le amó mucho y le hizo su paje de armas.

22 And Saul sent to Jesse, saying, Let David, I pray thee, stand before me; for he hath found favour in my sight.

22 Y Saúl envió a decir a Isaí: Yo te ruego que esté David conmigo, porque ha hallado gracia ante mis ojos.

23 And it came to pass, when the evil spirit from God was upon Saul, that David took an harp, and played with his hand: so Saul was refreshed, and was well, and the evil spirit departed from him.

23 Y cuando el espíritu malo de parte de Dios venía sobre Saúl, David tomaba el arpa y tocaba con su mano; y Saúl tenía alivio y se sentía mejor, y el espíritu malo se apartaba de él.
