1 Samuel also said unto Saul, The LORD sent me to anoint thee to be king over his people, over Israel: now therefore hearken thou unto the voice of the words of the LORD.

1 Y Samuel dijo a Saúl: Jehová me envió a que te ungiese como rey sobre su pueblo Israel; escucha, pues, la voz de las palabras de Jehová.

2 Thus saith the LORD of hosts, I remember that which Amalek did to Israel, how he laid wait for him in the way, when he came up from Egypt.

2 Así ha dicho Jehová de los ejércitos: Yo castigaré a Amalec por lo que hizo a Israel cuando se le opuso en el camino mientras subía de Egipto.

3 Now go and smite Amalek, and utterly destroy all that they have, and spare them not; but slay both man and woman, infant and suckling, ox and sheep, camel and ass.

3 Ve, pues, y ataca a Amalec, y destruye todo lo que tiene y no te apiades de él; mata a hombres y a mujeres, a niños y hasta a los de pecho, y vacas y ovejas, camellos y asnos.

4 And Saul gathered the people together, and numbered them in Telaim, two hundred thousand footmen, and ten thousand men of Judah.

4 Saúl, pues, convocó al pueblo y los contó en Telaim: doscientos mil de a pie y diez mil hombres de Judá.

5 And Saul came to a city of Amalek, and laid wait in the valley.

5 Y fue Saúl a la ciudad de Amalec y puso emboscada en el valle.

6 And Saul said unto the Kenites, Go, depart, get you down from among the Amalekites, lest I destroy you with them: for ye shewed kindness to all the children of Israel, when they came up out of Egypt. So the Kenites departed from among the Amalekites.

6 Y dijo Saúl a los ceneos: Idos, apartaos y salid de entre los de Amalec, para que no os destruya juntamente con ellos; porque vosotros mostrasteis misericordia a todos los hijos de Israel cuando subían de Egipto. Y se apartaron, pues, los ceneos de entre los de Amalec.

7 And Saul smote the Amalekites from Havilah until thou comest to Shur, that is over against Egypt.

7 Y Saúl derrotó a los amalecitas desde Havila hasta llegar a Shur, que está enfrente de Egipto.

8 And he took Agag the king of the Amalekites alive, and utterly destroyed all the people with the edge of the sword.

8 Y tomó vivo a Agag, rey de Amalec, mas a todo el pueblo mató a filo de espada.

9 But Saul and the people spared Agag, and the best of the sheep, and of the oxen, and of the fatlings, and the lambs, and all that was good, and would not utterly destroy them: but every thing that was vile and refuse, that they destroyed utterly.

9 Y Saúl y el pueblo perdonaron a Agag, y a lo mejor de las ovejas, y del ganado mayor, y de los animales engordados, y de los carneros y de todo lo bueno, y no lo quisieron destruir; pero todo lo que era vil y despreciable lo destruyeron.

10 Then came the word of the LORD unto Samuel, saying,

10 Y vino la palabra de Jehová a Samuel, diciendo:

11 It repenteth me that I have set up Saul to be king: for he is turned back from following me, and hath not performed my commandments. And it grieved Samuel; and he cried unto the LORD all night.

11 Me pesa haber puesto a Saúl como rey, porque se ha apartado de mí y no ha cumplido mis palabras. Y se apesadumbró Samuel y clamó a Jehová toda aquella noche.

12 And when Samuel rose early to meet Saul in the morning, it was told Samuel, saying, Saul came to Carmel, and, behold, he set him up a place, and is gone about, and passed on, and gone down to Gilgal.

12 Madrugó Samuel para ir a encontrar a Saúl por la mañana; y le fue dado aviso a Samuel, diciendo: Saúl ha ido a Carmel, y he aquí, él se ha levantado un monumento; y después, dando una vuelta, ha pasado adelante y ha descendido a Gilgal.

13 And Samuel came to Saul: and Saul said unto him, Blessed be thou of the LORD: I have performed the commandment of the LORD.

13 Vino, pues, Samuel a Saúl, y Saúl le dijo: Bendito seas tú de Jehová; yo he cumplido la palabra de Jehová.

14 And Samuel said, What meaneth then this bleating of the sheep in mine ears, and the lowing of the oxen which I hear?

14 Samuel entonces dijo: ¿Pues, qué es este balido de ovejas que suena en mis oídos y este bramido de bueyes que yo oigo?

15 And Saul said, They have brought them from the Amalekites: for the people spared the best of the sheep and of the oxen, to sacrifice unto the LORD thy God; and the rest we have utterly destroyed.

15 Y Saúl respondió: De Amalec los han traído, porque el pueblo perdonó a lo mejor de las ovejas y de las vacas, para sacrificarlas a Jehová tu Dios, pero lo demás lo destruimos por completo.

16 Then Samuel said unto Saul, Stay, and I will tell thee what the LORD hath said to me this night. And he said unto him, Say on.

16 Entonces dijo Samuel a Saúl: Déjame declararte lo que Jehová me ha dicho esta noche. Y él le respondió: Habla.

17 And Samuel said, When thou wast little in thine own sight, wast thou not made the head of the tribes of Israel, and the LORD anointed thee king over Israel?

17 Y dijo Samuel: Aunque eras pequeño ante tus propios ojos, ¿no has sido hecho cabeza de las tribus de Israel, y Jehová te ha ungido como rey sobre Israel?

18 And the LORD sent thee on a journey, and said, Go and utterly destroy the sinners the Amalekites, and fight against them until they be consumed.

18 Y te envió Jehová en misión y dijo: Ve, y destruye a los pecadores de Amalec y hazles la guerra hasta que los acabes.

19 Wherefore then didst thou not obey the voice of the LORD, but didst fly upon the spoil, and didst evil in the sight of the LORD?

19 ¿Por qué, pues, no has obedecido la voz de Jehová, sino que te has lanzado sobre el botín y has hecho lo malo ante los ojos de Jehová?

20 And Saul said unto Samuel, Yea, I have obeyed the voice of the LORD, and have gone the way which the LORD sent me, and have brought Agag the king of Amalek, and have utterly destroyed the Amalekites.

20 Y Saúl respondió a Samuel: Antes bien, he obedecido la voz de Jehová, y fui a la misión que Jehová me envió, y he traído a Agag, rey de Amalec, y he destruido a los amalecitas.

21 But the people took of the spoil, sheep and oxen, the chief of the things which should have been utterly destroyed, to sacrifice unto the LORD thy God in Gilgal.

21 Mas el pueblo tomó del botín ovejas y vacas, las primicias del anatema, para sacrificarlas a Jehová tu Dios en Gilgal.

22 And Samuel said, Hath the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams.

22 Y Samuel dijo: ¿Acaso se complace Jehová tanto en los holocaustos y en los sacrificios como en la obediencia a las palabras de Jehová? Ciertamente el obedecer es mejor que los sacrificios, y el prestar atención que la grosura de los carneros.

23 For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the word of the LORD, he hath also rejected thee from being king.

23 Porque como pecado de adivinación es la rebelión, y como iniquidad e idolatría la obstinación. Por cuanto tú desechaste la palabra de Jehová, él también te ha desechado para que no seas rey.

24 And Saul said unto Samuel, I have sinned: for I have transgressed the commandment of the LORD, and thy words: because I feared the people, and obeyed their voice.

24 Entonces Saúl dijo a Samuel: Yo he pecado; he quebrantado el mandamiento de Jehová y tus palabras, porque temí al pueblo y consentí a la voz de ellos.

25 Now therefore, I pray thee, pardon my sin, and turn again with me, that I may worship the LORD.

25 Perdona, pues, ahora mi pecado y vuelve conmigo para que adore a Jehová.

26 And Samuel said unto Saul, I will not return with thee: for thou hast rejected the word of the LORD, and the LORD hath rejected thee from being king over Israel.

26 Y Samuel respondió a Saúl: No volveré contigo, porque desechaste la palabra de Jehová, y Jehová te ha desechado para que no seas rey sobre Israel.

27 And as Samuel turned about to go away, he laid hold upon the skirt of his mantle, and it rent.

27 Cuando Samuel se volvió para irse, Saúl echó mano del borde de su manto, el cual se desgarró.

28 And Samuel said unto him, The LORD hath rent the kingdom of Israel from thee this day, and hath given it to a neighbour of thine, that is better than thou.

28 Entonces Samuel le dijo: Jehová ha desgarrado hoy de ti el reino de Israel y lo ha dado a un prójimo tuyo mejor que tú.

29 And also the Strength of Israel will not lie nor repent: for he is not a man, that he should repent.

29 Y además, el Sempiterno de Israel no mentirá ni se arrepentirá, porque no es hombre para que se arrepienta.

30 Then he said, I have sinned: yet honour me now, I pray thee, before the elders of my people, and before Israel, and turn again with me, that I may worship the LORD thy God.

30 Y él dijo: Yo he pecado; pero te ruego que me honres delante de los ancianos de mi pueblo y delante de Israel, y que vuelvas conmigo para que adore a Jehová tu Dios.

31 So Samuel turned again after Saul; and Saul worshipped the LORD.

31 Y volvió Samuel tras Saúl, y adoró Saúl a Jehová.

32 Then said Samuel, Bring ye hither to me Agag the king of the Amalekites. And Agag came unto him delicately. And Agag said, Surely the bitterness of death is past.

32 Después dijo Samuel: Traedme a Agag, rey de Amalec. Y Agag vino a él alegremente. Y dijo Agag: Ciertamente ya pasó la amargura de la muerte.

33 And Samuel said, As thy sword hath made women childless, so shall thy mother be childless among women. And Samuel hewed Agag in pieces before the LORD in Gilgal.

33 Y Samuel dijo: Como tu espada dejó a las mujeres sin hijos, así tu madre será sin hijo entre las mujeres. Entonces Samuel cortó en pedazos a Agag delante de Jehová en Gilgal.

34 Then Samuel went to Ramah; and Saul went up to his house to Gibeah of Saul.

34 Se fue luego Samuel a Ramá, y Saúl subió a su casa en Gabaa de Saúl.

35 And Samuel came no more to see Saul until the day of his death: nevertheless Samuel mourned for Saul: and the LORD repented that he had made Saul king over Israel.

35 Y nunca más vio Samuel a Saúl hasta el día de su muerte; y Samuel lloraba por Saúl, y Jehová se había arrepentido de haber puesto a Saúl como rey sobre Israel.
