1 Then Nahash the Ammonite came up, and encamped against Jabesh-gilead: and all the men of Jabesh said unto Nahash, Make a covenant with us, and we will serve thee.

1 Y subió Nahas, el amonita, contra Jabes de Galaad y la sitió. Y todos los de Jabes dijeron a Nahas: Haz alianza con nosotros, y te serviremos.

2 And Nahash the Ammonite answered them, On this condition will I make a covenant with you, that I may thrust out all your right eyes, and lay it for a reproach upon all Israel.

2 Y Nahas, el amonita les respondió: Con esta condición haré alianza con vosotros: que a cada uno de todos vosotros le saque yo el ojo derecho, y ponga esta afrenta sobre todo Israel.

3 And the elders of Jabesh said unto him, Give us seven days' respite, that we may send messengers unto all the coasts of Israel: and then, if there be no man to save us, we will come out to thee.

3 Entonces los ancianos de Jabes le dijeron: Danos siete días para que enviemos mensajeros por todo el territorio de Israel, y si no hay nadie que nos defienda, nos rendiremos a ti.

4 Then came the messengers to Gibeah of Saul, and told the tidings in the ears of the people: and all the people lifted up their voices, and wept.

4 Y cuando llegaron los mensajeros a Gabaa de Saúl, dijeron estas palabras a oídos del pueblo; y todo el pueblo alzó la voz y lloró.

5 And, behold, Saul came after the herd out of the field; and Saul said, What aileth the people that they weep? And they told him the tidings of the men of Jabesh.

5 Y he aquí que Saúl venía del campo detrás de los bueyes, y dijo Saúl: ¿Qué tiene el pueblo que está llorando? Y le contaron las palabras de los hombres de Jabes.

6 And the Spirit of God came upon Saul when he heard those tidings, and his anger was kindled greatly.

6 Y al oír Saúl estas palabras, el espíritu de Dios vino sobre él con poder, y se encendió su ira en gran manera.

7 And he took a yoke of oxen, and hewed them in pieces, and sent them throughout all the coasts of Israel by the hands of messengers, saying, Whosoever cometh not forth after Saul and after Samuel, so shall it be done unto his oxen. And the fear of the LORD fell on the people, and they came out with one consent.

7 Y tomando un par de bueyes, los cortó en pedazos y los envió por todo el territorio de Israel por medio de mensajeros, diciendo: Cualquiera que no salga en pos de Saúl y en pos de Samuel, así se hará con sus bueyes. Y cayó el temor de Jehová sobre el pueblo, y salieron todos como un solo hombre.

8 And when he numbered them in Bezek, the children of Israel were three hundred thousand, and the men of Judah thirty thousand.

8 Y los contó en Bezec, y eran los hijos de Israel trescientos mil, y treinta mil los hombres de Judá.

9 And they said unto the messengers that came, Thus shall ye say unto the men of Jabesh-gilead, To morrow, by that time the sun be hot, ye shall have help. And the messengers came and shewed it to the men of Jabesh; and they were glad.

9 Y respondieron a los mensajeros que habían venido: Así diréis a los de Jabes de Galaad: Mañana al calentar el sol, seréis librados. Y fueron los mensajeros y lo dijeron a los de Jabes, y ellos se alegraron.

10 Therefore the men of Jabesh said, To morrow we will come out unto you, and ye shall do with us all that seemeth good unto you.

10 Y los de Jabes dijeron: Mañana saldremos a vosotros, para que hagáis con nosotros todo lo que os parezca bien.

11 And it was so on the morrow, that Saul put the people in three companies; and they came into the midst of the host in the morning watch, and slew the Ammonites until the heat of the day: and it came to pass, that they which remained were scattered, so that two of them were not left together.

11 Y aconteció que al día siguiente dispuso Saúl al pueblo en tres escuadrones, y entraron en medio del campamento durante la vigilia de la mañana e hirieron a los amonitas hasta que el día calentó; y los que quedaron fueron dispersados, de tal manera que no quedaron dos de ellos juntos.

12 And the people said unto Samuel, Who is he that said, Shall Saul reign over us? bring the men, that we may put them to death.

12 El pueblo entonces dijo a Samuel: ¿Quiénes son los que decían: ¿Ha de reinar Saúl sobre nosotros? Dad nos a esos hombres y los mataremos.

13 And Saul said, There shall not a man be put to death this day: for to day the LORD hath wrought salvation in Israel.

13 Y Saúl dijo: No morirá hoy ninguno, porque hoy Jehová ha traído salvación a Israel.

14 Then said Samuel to the people, Come, and let us go to Gilgal, and renew the kingdom there.

14 Entonces Samuel dijo al pueblo: Venid, vamos a Gilgal para que confirmemos allí el reino.

15 And all the people went to Gilgal; and there they made Saul king before the LORD in Gilgal; and there they sacrificed sacrifices of peace offerings before the LORD; and there Saul and all the men of Israel rejoiced greatly.

15 Y fue todo el pueblo a Gilgal, e invistieron allí a Saúl como rey delante de Jehová en Gilgal. Y sacrificaron allí ofrendas de paz delante de Jehová, y se alegraron mucho allí Saúl y todos los de Israel.
