1 Then Samuel took a vial of oil, and poured it upon his head, and kissed him, and said, Is it not because the LORD hath anointed thee to be captain over his inheritance?

1 Tomando entonces Samuel un frasco de aceite, lo derramó sobre la cabeza de Saúl, y lo besó y le dijo: ¿No te ha ungido Jehová como príncipe sobre su heredad?

2 When thou art departed from me to day, then thou shalt find two men by Rachel's sepulchre in the border of Benjamin at Zelzah; and they will say unto thee, The asses which thou wentest to seek are found: and, lo, thy father hath left the care of the asses, and sorroweth for you, saying, What shall I do for my son?

2 Hoy, después que te hayas apartado de mí, hallarás dos hombres junto al sepulcro de Raquel, en el territorio de Benjamín, en Selsa, los cuales te dirán: Las asnas que habías ido a buscar se han hallado; tu padre, pues, ha dejado ya de preocuparse del asunto de las asnas y está angustiado por vosotros, diciendo: ¿Qué haré acerca de mi hijo?

3 Then shalt thou go on forward from thence, and thou shalt come to the plain of Tabor, and there shall meet thee three men going up to God to Beth-el, one carrying three kids, and another carrying three loaves of bread, and another carrying a bottle of wine:

3 Y de allí seguirás más adelante y llegarás a la encina de Tabor, y te saldrán al encuentro tres hombres que suben a Dios en Bet-el, llevando uno tres cabritos, y otro tres tortas de pan y el tercero una vasija de vino,

4 And they will salute thee, and give thee two loaves of bread; which thou shalt receive of their hands.

4 Después que te hayan saludado, te darán dos panes, los cuales tomarás de manos de ellos.

5 After that thou shalt come to the hill of God, where is the garrison of the Philistines: and it shall come to pass, when thou art come thither to the city, that thou shalt meet a company of prophets coming down from the high place with a psaltery, and a tabret, and a pipe, and a harp, before them; and they shall prophesy:

5 De allí llegarás al collado de Dios donde está la guarnición de los filisteos; y cuando entres allá en la ciudad, encontrarás un grupo de profetas que descienden del lugar alto, precedidos de salterio, y pandero, y flauta y arpa, y ellos profetizando.

6 And the Spirit of the LORD will come upon thee, and thou shalt prophesy with them, and shalt be turned into another man.

6 Y el espíritu de Jehová vendrá sobre ti con poder, y profetizarás con ellos y serás cambiado en otro hombre.

7 And let it be, when these signs are come unto thee, that thou do as occasion serve thee; for God is with thee.

7 Y cuando te hayan sobrevenido estas señales, haz lo que te venga a mano, porque Dios está contigo.

8 And thou shalt go down before me to Gilgal; and, behold, I will come down unto thee, to offer burnt offerings, and to sacrifice sacrifices of peace offerings: seven days shalt thou tarry, till I come to thee, and shew thee what thou shalt do.

8 Y bajarás delante de mí a Gilgal; y he aquí, descenderé yo a ti para ofrecer holocaustos y sacrificar ofrendas de paz. Espera siete días, hasta que yo venga a ti y te enseñe lo que has de hacer.

9 And it was so, that when he had turned his back to go from Samuel, God gave him another heart: and all those signs came to pass that day.

9 Y sucedió que cuando volvió él la espalda para apartarse de Samuel, Dios le cambió el corazón; y todas estas señales acaecieron en aquel día.

10 And when they came thither to the hill, behold, a company of prophets met him; and the Spirit of God came upon him, and he prophesied among them.

10 Y cuando llegaron allá al collado, he aquí, el grupo de los profetas que venía a encontrarse con él; y el Espíritu de Dios vino sobre él con poder, y profetizó entre ellos.

11 And it came to pass, when all that knew him beforetime saw that, behold, he prophesied among the prophets, then the people said one to another, What is this that is come unto the son of Kish? Is Saul also among the prophets?

11 Y aconteció que cuando todos los que le conocían de antes vieron que profetizaba con los profetas, se decían el uno al otro: ¿Qué le ha sucedido al hijo de Cis? ¿Saúl también entre los profetas?

12 And one of the same place answered and said, But who is their father? Therefore it became a proverb, Is Saul also among the prophets?

12 Y un hombre de allí respondió y dijo: ¿Y quién es el padre de ellos? Por esta causa se hizo proverbio: ¿También Saúl entre los profetas?

13 And when he had made an end of prophesying, he came to the high place.

13 Y cesó de profetizar y llegó al lugar alto.

14 And Saul's uncle said unto him and to his servant, Whither went ye? And he said, To seek the asses: and when we saw that they were no where, we came to Samuel.

14 Y un tío de Saúl dijo a él y a su criado: ¿A dónde fuisteis? Y él respondió: A buscar las asnas; y como vimos que no aparecían, acudimos a Samuel.

15 And Saul's uncle said, Tell me, I pray thee, what Samuel said unto you.

15 Y dijo el tío de Saúl: Yo te ruego que me declares qué os dijo Samuel.

16 And Saul said unto his uncle, He told us plainly that the asses were found. But of the matter of the kingdom, whereof Samuel spake, he told him not.

16 Y Saúl respondió a su tío: Nos declaró expresamente que las asnas habían sido halladas. Mas del asunto del reino, de que Samuel le había hablado, no le descubrió nada.

17 And Samuel called the people together unto the LORD to Mizpeh;

17 Y Samuel convocó al pueblo delante de Jehová en Mizpa,

18 And said unto the children of Israel, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, I brought up Israel out of Egypt, and delivered you out of the hand of the Egyptians, and out of the hand of all kingdoms, and of them that oppressed you:

18 y dijo a los hijos de Israel: Así ha dicho Jehová, el Dios de Israel: Yo saqué a Israel de Egipto, y os libré de manos de los egipcios y de manos de todos los reinos que os afligieron.

19 And ye have this day rejected your God, who himself saved you out of all your adversities and your tribulations; and ye have said unto him, Nay, but set a king over us. Now therefore present yourselves before the LORD by your tribes, and by your thousands.

19 Pero vosotros habéis desechado hoy a vuestro Dios, que os guarda de todas vuestras aflicciones y angustias, y le habéis dicho: No, sino pon rey sobre nosotros. Ahora, pues, presentaos delante de Jehová por vuestras tribus y por vuestros millares.

20 And when Samuel had caused all the tribes of Israel to come near, the tribe of Benjamin was taken.

20 Y Samuel hizo acercarse a todas las tribus de Israel, y fue tomada la tribu de Benjamín.

21 When he had caused the tribe of Benjamin to come near by their families, the family of Matri was taken, and Saul the son of Kish was taken: and when they sought him, he could not be found.

21 E hizo que se acercara la tribu de Benjamín por sus familias, y fue tomada la familia de Matri; y de ella fue tomado Saúl hijo de Cis. Y le buscaron, pero no fue hallado.

22 Therefore they inquired of the LORD further, if the man should yet come thither. And the LORD answered, Behold, he hath hid himself among the stuff.

22 Preguntaron, pues, otra vez a Jehová si aún había de venir allí aquel hombre. Y respondió Jehová: He aquí que él está escondido entre el bagaje.

23 And they ran and fetched him thence: and when he stood among the people, he was higher than any of the people from his shoulders and upward.

23 Entonces corrieron y lo sacaron de allí, y puesto en medio del pueblo, desde los hombros arriba era más alto que todo el pueblo.

24 And Samuel said to all the people, See ye him whom the LORD hath chosen, that there is none like him among all the people? And all the people shouted, and said, God save the king.

24 Y Samuel dijo a todo el pueblo: ¿Habéis visto al que ha elegido Jehová, que no hay semejante a él en todo el pueblo? Entonces el pueblo clamó con alegría, diciendo: ¡Viva el rey!

25 Then Samuel told the people the manner of the kingdom, and wrote it in a book, and laid it up before the LORD. And Samuel sent all the people away, every man to his house.

25 Samuel recitó luego al pueblo el proceder del reino, y lo escribió en un libro, el cual guardó delante de Jehová. Y envió Samuel a todo el pueblo, cada uno a su casa.

26 And Saul also went home to Gibeah; and there went with him a band of men, whose hearts God had touched.

26 Y Saúl también se fue a su casa en Gabaa, y fueron con él los hombres de guerra cuyos corazones Dios había tocado.

27 But the children of Belial said, How shall this man save us? And they despised him, and brought him no presents. But he held his peace.

27 Pero ciertos hombres insolentes dijeron: ¿Cómo nos ha de salvar este? Y le tuvieron en poco y no le trajeron presente; mas él disimuló.
