1 And it came to pass after many days, that the word of the LORD came to Elijah in the third year, saying, Go, shew thyself unto Ahab; and I will send rain upon the earth.

1 Y aconteció que pasados muchos días, vino la palabra de Jehová a Elías al tercer año, diciendo: Ve, muéstrate a Acab, y yo enviaré lluvia sobre la faz de la tierra.

2 And Elijah went to shew himself unto Ahab. And there was a sore famine in Samaria.

2 Y fue Elías a mostrarse a Acab. Y había gran hambre en Samaria.

3 And Ahab called Obadiah, which was the governor of his house. (Now Obadiah feared the LORD greatly:

3 Y Acab llamó a Abdías, su mayordomo. Y Abdías era en gran manera temeroso de Jehová,

4 For it was so, when Jezebel cut off the prophets of the LORD, that Obadiah took an hundred prophets, and hid them by fifty in a cave, and fed them with bread and water.)

4 porque cuando Jezabel destruía a los profetas de Jehová, Abdías tomó a cien profetas y los escondió en cuevas de cincuenta en cincuenta, y los sustentó con pan y agua.

5 And Ahab said unto Obadiah, Go into the land, unto all fountains of water, and unto all brooks: peradventure we may find grass to save the horses and mules alive, that we lose not all the beasts.

5 Y dijo Acab a Abdías: Ve por el país a todas las fuentes de agua y a todos los arroyos por si acaso hallamos pasto con que conservemos con vida a los caballos y a las mulas, para que no nos quedemos sin bestias.

6 So they divided the land between them to pass throughout it: Ahab went one way by himself, and Obadiah went another way by himself.

6 Y dividieron entre sí el país para recorrerlo; Acab fue por un camino, y Abdías fue separadamente por otro.

7 And as Obadiah was in the way, behold, Elijah met him: and he knew him, and fell on his face, and said, Art thou that my lord Elijah?

7 Y yendo Abdías por el camino, se encontró con Elías; y cuando le reconoció, se postró sobre su rostro y dijo: ¿No eres tú Elías, mi señor?

8 And he answered him, I am: go, tell thy lord, Behold, Elijah is here.

8 Y él respondió: Yo soy; ve y di a tu amo: Aquí está Elías.

9 And he said, What have I sinned, that thou wouldest deliver thy servant into the hand of Ahab, to slay me?

9 Pero él dijo: ¿En qué he pecado para que tú entregues a tu siervo en manos de Acab para que me mate?

10 As the LORD thy God liveth, there is no nation or kingdom, whither my lord hath not sent to seek thee: and when they said, He is not there; he took an oath of the kingdom and nation, that they found thee not.

10 Vive Jehová tu Dios que no hay nación ni reino adonde mi señor no haya enviado a buscarte; y cuando respondían: No está aquí, él hacía jurar a reinos y a naciones que no te habían hallado.

11 And now thou sayest, Go, tell thy lord, Behold, Elijah is here.

11 ¿Y ahora tú dices: Ve y di a tu amo: Aquí está Elías?

12 And it shall come to pass, as soon as I am gone from thee, that the Spirit of the LORD shall carry thee whither I know not; and so when I come and tell Ahab, and he cannot find thee, he shall slay me: but I thy servant fear the LORD from my youth.

12 Y acontecerá que cuando yo me haya ido, el espíritu de Jehová te llevará adonde yo no sepa; y al ir yo a dar las nuevas a Acab, él no te hallará y me matará; y tu siervo ha temido a Jehová desde su juventud.

13 Was it not told my lord what I did when Jezebel slew the prophets of the LORD, how I hid an hundred men of the LORD's prophets by fifty in a cave, and fed them with bread and water?

13 ¿No le han dicho a mi señor lo que hice cuando Jezabel mataba a los profetas de Jehová, que escondí en cuevas a cien de los profetas de Jehová, de cincuenta en cincuenta, en cuevas, y los mantuve con pan y agua?

14 And now thou sayest, Go, tell thy lord, Behold, Elijah is here: and he shall slay me.

14 Y ahora dices tú: Ve y di a tu amo: Aquí está Elías. Entonces él me matará.

15 And Elijah said, As the LORD of hosts liveth, before whom I stand, I will surely shew myself unto him to day.

15 Y le dijo Elías: Vive Jehová de los ejércitos, delante de quien estoy, que hoy me presentaré ante él.

16 So Obadiah went to meet Ahab, and told him: and Ahab went to meet Elijah.

16 Entonces Abdías fue a encontrarse con Acab y le dio el aviso; y Acab fue a encontrarse con Elías.

17 And it came to pass, when Ahab saw Elijah, that Ahab said unto him, Art thou he that troubleth Israel?

17 Y aconteció que cuando Acab vio a Elías, Acab le dijo: ¿Eres tú el que perturbas a Israel?

18 And he answered, I have not troubled Israel; but thou, and thy father's house, in that ye have forsaken the commandments of the LORD, and thou hast followed Baalim.

18 Y él respondió: Yo no he perturbado a Israel, sino tú y la casa de tu padre, porque habéis abandonado los mandamientos de Jehová y habéis seguido a los baales.

19 Now therefore send, and gather to me all Israel unto mount Carmel, and the prophets of Baal four hundred and fifty, and the prophets of the groves four hundred, which eat at Jezebel's table.

19 Envía, pues, ahora a reunir junto a mí a todo Israel en el monte Carmelo, y a cuatrocientos cincuenta profetas de Baal y a cuatrocientos profetas de Asera que comen de la mesa de Jezabel.

20 So Ahab sent unto all the children of Israel, and gathered the prophets together unto mount Carmel.

20 Entonces Acab envió mensaje a todos los hijos de Israel, y reunió a los profetas en el monte Carmelo.

21 And Elijah came unto all the people, and said, How long halt ye between two opinions? if the LORD be God, follow him: but if Baal, then follow him. And the people answered him not a word.

21 Y acercándose Elías a todo el pueblo, dijo: ¿Hasta cuándo claudicaréis vosotros entre dos opiniones? Si Jehová es Dios, seguidle; y si Baal, seguidle a él. Y el pueblo no respondió palabra.

22 Then said Elijah unto the people, I, even I only, remain a prophet of the LORD; but Baal's prophets are four hundred and fifty men.

22 Y Elías volvió a decir al pueblo: Solo yo he quedado como profeta de Jehová; pero de los profetas de Baal hay cuatrocientos cincuenta hombres.

23 Let them therefore give us two bullocks; and let them choose one bullock for themselves, and cut it in pieces, and lay it on wood, and put no fire under: and I will dress the other bullock, and lay it on wood, and put no fire under:

23 Dennos, pues, dos bueyes, y escojan ellos uno, y córtenlo en pedazos, y pónganlo sobre leña, pero no pongan fuego debajo; y yo prepararé el otro buey, y lo pondré sobre leña, y no pondré ningún fuego debajo.

24 And call ye on the name of your gods, and I will call on the name of the LORD: and the God that answereth by fire, let him be God. And all the people answered and said, It is well spoken.

24 Invocad luego vosotros el nombre de vuestros dioses, y yo invocaré el nombre de Jehová; y el Dios que responda por medio del fuego, ese es Dios. Y todo el pueblo respondió, diciendo: Bien dicho.

25 And Elijah said unto the prophets of Baal, Choose you one bullock for yourselves, and dress it first; for ye are many; and call on the name of your gods, but put no fire under.

25 Entonces Elías dijo a los profetas de Baal: Escoged un buey, y preparadlo primero, pues vosotros sois más; e invocad el nombre de vuestros dioses, pero no pongáis fuego debajo.

26 And they took the bullock which was given them, and they dressed it, and called on the name of Baal from morning even until noon, saying, O Baal, hear us. But there was no voice, nor any that answered. And they leaped upon the altar which was made.

26 Y ellos tomaron el buey que les fue dado y lo prepararon, e invocaron el nombre de Baal desde la mañana hasta el mediodía, diciendo: ¡Baal, respóndenos! Pero no había voz, ni quien respondiese; entretanto, ellos andaban saltando alrededor del altar que habían hecho.

27 And it came to pass at noon, that Elijah mocked them, and said, Cry aloud: for he is a god; either he is talking, or he is pursuing, or he is in a journey, or peradventure he sleepeth, and must be awaked.

27 Y aconteció al mediodía que Elías se burlaba de ellos, diciendo: Gritad en alta voz, porque es un dios; quizá está meditando, o está ocupado, o se ha ido de viaje; o acaso duerme y hay que despertarlo.

28 And they cried aloud, and cut themselves after their manner with knives and lancets, till the blood gushed out upon them.

28 Y ellos clamaban a grandes voces, y se cortaban con cuchillos y con lancetas conforme a su costumbre, hasta que les chorreaba la sangre.

29 And it came to pass, when midday was past, and they prophesied until the time of the offering of the evening sacrifice, that there was neither voice, nor any to answer, nor any that regarded.

29 Y aconteció que pasó el mediodía, y ellos profetizaban frenéticamente hasta la hora de la ofrenda de la tarde, y no hubo voz, ni quien respondiese ni escuchase.

30 And Elijah said unto all the people, Come near unto me. And all the people came near unto him. And he repaired the altar of the LORD that was broken down.

30 Elías dijo entonces a todo el pueblo: Acercaos a mí. Y todo el pueblo se acercó a él, y él reparó el altar de Jehová que estaba arruinado.

31 And Elijah took twelve stones, according to the number of the tribes of the sons of Jacob, unto whom the word of the LORD came, saying, Israel shall be thy name:

31 Y Elías tomó doce piedras, conforme al número de las tribus de los hijos de Jacob, a quien había venido la palabra de Jehová, diciendo: Israel será tu nombre.

32 And with the stones he built an altar in the name of the LORD: and he made a trench about the altar, as great as would contain two measures of seed.

32 Edificó con las piedras un altar en el nombre de Jehová; después hizo una zanja alrededor del altar en que cupieran dos medidas de grano.

33 And he put the wood in order, and cut the bullock in pieces, and laid him on the wood, and said, Fill four barrels with water, and pour it on the burnt sacrifice, and on the wood.

33 Preparó luego la leña, y cortó el buey en pedazos y lo puso sobre la leña.

34 And he said, Do it the second time. And they did it the second time. And he said, Do it the third time. And they did it the third time.

34 Y dijo: Llenad cuatro cántaros de agua y derramadla sobre el holocausto y sobre la leña. Y dijo: Hacedlo otra vez; y otra vez lo hicieron. Dijo aún: Hacedlo la tercera vez; y lo hicieron la tercera vez.

35 And the water ran round about the altar; and he filled the trench also with water.

35 De manera que el agua corría alrededor del altar; y también se había llenado de agua la zanja.

36 And it came to pass at the time of the offering of the evening sacrifice, that Elijah the prophet came near, and said, LORD God of Abraham, Isaac, and of Israel, let it be known this day that thou art God in Israel, and that I am thy servant, and that I have done all these things at thy word.

36 Y sucedió que cuando llegó la hora de ofrecer el sacrificio, se acercó el profeta Elías y dijo: Oh Jehová, Dios de Abraham, de Isaac y de Israel, sea hoy manifiesto que tú eres Dios en Israel, y que yo soy tu siervo, y que por mandato tuyo he hecho todas estas cosas.

37 Hear me, O LORD, hear me, that this people may know that thou art the LORD God, and that thou hast turned their heart back again.

37 Respóndeme, Jehová, respóndeme, para que este pueblo conozca que tú, oh Jehová, eres Dios, y que tú has hecho volver a ti el corazón de ellos.

38 Then the fire of the LORD fell, and consumed the burnt sacrifice, and the wood, and the stones, and the dust, and licked up the water that was in the trench.

38 Entonces cayó fuego de Jehová, el cual consumió el sacrificio, y la leña, y las piedras, y el polvo, y aun lamió el agua que estaba en la zanja.

39 And when all the people saw it, they fell on their faces: and they said, The LORD, he is the God; the LORD, he is the God.

39 Y viéndolo todo el pueblo, cayeron sobre sus rostros y dijeron: ¡Jehová es Dios! ¡Jehová es Dios!

40 And Elijah said unto them, Take the prophets of Baal; let not one of them escape. And they took them: and Elijah brought them down to the brook Kishon, and slew them there.

40 Y les dijo Elías: Prended a los profetas de Baal, que no escape ninguno. Y ellos los prendieron; y los llevó Elías al arroyo Cisón, y allí los degolló.

41 And Elijah said unto Ahab, Get thee up, eat and drink; for there is a sound of abundance of rain.

41 Y entonces Elías dijo a Acab: Sube, come y bebe, porque ya se oye el ruido de una gran lluvia.

42 So Ahab went up to eat and to drink. And Elijah went up to the top of Carmel; and he cast himself down upon the earth, and put his face between his knees,

42 Y Acab subió a comer y a beber. Pero Elías subió a la cumbre del Carmelo; y postrándose en tierra, puso su rostro entre las rodillas.

43 And said to his servant, Go up now, look toward the sea. And he went up, and looked, and said, There is nothing. And he said, Go again seven times.

43 Y dijo a su criado: Sube ahora y mira hacia el mar. Y él subió y miró, y dijo: No hay nada. Y él le volvió a decir: Vuelve siete veces.

44 And it came to pass at the seventh time, that he said, Behold, there ariseth a little cloud out of the sea, like a man's hand. And he said, Go up, say unto Ahab, Prepare thy chariot, and get thee down, that the rain stop thee not.

44 Y a la séptima vez dijo: Yo veo una pequeña nube, como la palma de la mano de un hombre, que sube del mar. Y él dijo: Ve y di a Acab: Prepárate y desciende, para que la lluvia no te detenga.

45 And it came to pass in the mean while, that the heaven was black with clouds and wind, and there was a great rain. And Ahab rode, and went to Jezreel.

45 Y aconteció que, estando en esto, los cielos se oscurecieron con nubes y viento y hubo una gran lluvia. Y subió Acab al carro y fue a Jezreel.

46 And the hand of the LORD was on Elijah; and he girded up his loins, and ran before Ahab to the entrance of Jezreel.

46 Y la mano de Jehová estuvo sobre Elías, quien ciñó sus lomos y corrió delante de Acab hasta llegar a Jezreel.
