1 And Elijah the Tishbite, who was of the inhabitants of Gilead, said unto Ahab, As the LORD God of Israel liveth, before whom I stand, there shall not be dew nor rain these years, but according to my word.

1 Entonces Elías, el tisbita, que era de los moradores de Galaad, dijo a Acab: Vive Jehová Dios de Israel, delante de quien estoy, que no habrá lluvia ni rocío en estos años, sino por mi palabra.

2 And the word of the LORD came unto him, saying,

2 Y vino a él la palabra de Jehová, diciendo:

3 Get thee hence, and turn thee eastward, and hide thyself by the brook Cherith, that is before Jordan.

3 Apártate de aquí, y vuelve al oriente y escóndete en el arroyo Querit, que está frente al Jordán.

4 And it shall be, that thou shalt drink of the brook; and I have commanded the ravens to feed thee there.

4 Y sucederá que beberás del arroyo, y yo he mandado a los cuervos que te den allí de comer.

5 So he went and did according unto the word of the LORD: for he went and dwelt by the brook Cherith, that is before Jordan.

5 Y él fue e hizo conforme a la palabra de Jehová, pues se fue y habitó junto al arroyo Querit, que está frente al Jordán.

6 And the ravens brought him bread and flesh in the morning, and bread and flesh in the evening; and he drank of the brook.

6 Y los cuervos le traían pan y carne por la mañana, y pan y carne al atardecer, y bebía del arroyo.

7 And it came to pass after a while, that the brook dried up, because there had been no rain in the land.

7 Y aconteció que pasados algunos días, se secó el arroyo, porque no había llovido sobre la tierra.

8 And the word of the LORD came unto him, saying,

8 Y vino a él la palabra de Jehová, diciendo:

9 Arise, get thee to Zarephath, which belongeth to Zidon, and dwell there: behold, I have commanded a widow woman there to sustain thee.

9 Levántate, vete a Sarepta de Sidón y allí morarás; he aquí, yo he mandado allí a una mujer viuda que te sustente.

10 So he arose and went to Zarephath. And when he came to the gate of the city, behold, the widow woman was there gathering of sticks: and he called to her, and said, Fetch me, I pray thee, a little water in a vessel, that I may drink.

10 Entonces él se levantó y se fue a Sarepta. Y cuando llegó a la puerta de la ciudad, he aquí que una mujer viuda estaba allí recogiendo leña; y él la llamó y le dijo: Te ruego que me traigas un poco de agua en un vaso para que beba.

11 And as she was going to fetch it, he called to her, and said, Bring me, I pray thee, a morsel of bread in thine hand.

11 Y yendo ella para traérsela, él la volvió a llamar y le dijo: Te ruego que me traigas también un bocado de pan en tu mano.

12 And she said, As the LORD thy God liveth, I have not a cake, but an handful of meal in a barrel, and a little oil in a cruse: and, behold, I am gathering two sticks, that I may go in and dress it for me and my son, that we may eat it, and die.

12 Y ella respondió: Vive Jehová, Dios tuyo, que no tengo pan cocido; solamente un puñado de harina tengo en la tinaja y un poco de aceite en una vasija; y he aquí que ahora recogía dos leños para entrar y prepararlo para mí y para mi hijo, para que lo comamos y nos muramos.

13 And Elijah said unto her, Fear not; go and do as thou hast said: but make me thereof a little cake first, and bring it unto me, and after make for thee and for thy son.

13 Y Elías le dijo: No tengas temor; ve, haz como has dicho; pero hazme a mí primero de ello una pequeña torta cocida y tráemela; y después harás para ti y para tu hijo.

14 For thus saith the LORD God of Israel, The barrel of meal shall not waste, neither shall the cruse of oil fail, until the day that the LORD sendeth rain upon the earth.

14 Porque así ha dicho Jehová, Dios de Israel: La harina de la tinaja no escaseará, ni el aceite de la vasija disminuirá, hasta el día en que Jehová mande lluvia sobre la faz de la tierra.

15 And she went and did according to the saying of Elijah: and she, and he, and her house, did eat many days.

15 Entonces ella fue e hizo como le dijo Elías; y comieron él, y ella y su casa durante muchos días.

16 And the barrel of meal wasted not, neither did the cruse of oil fail, according to the word of the LORD, which he spake by Elijah.

16 Y la harina de la tinaja no escaseó, ni el aceite de la vasija menguó, conforme a la palabra que Jehová había dicho por medio de Elías.

17 And it came to pass after these things, that the son of the woman, the mistress of the house, fell sick; and his sickness was so sore, that there was no breath left in him.

17 Después de estas cosas aconteció que cayó enfermo el hijo de la dueña de la casa; y la enfermedad fue tan grave que no quedó en él aliento.

18 And she said unto Elijah, What have I to do with thee, O thou man of God? art thou come unto me to call my sin to remembrance, and to slay my son?

18 Y ella dijo a Elías: ¿Qué tengo yo contigo, oh varón de Dios? ¿Has venido a mí para recordarme mis iniquidades y para hacer morir a mi hijo?

19 And he said unto her, Give me thy son. And he took him out of her bosom, and carried him up into a loft, where he abode, and laid him upon his own bed.

19 Y él le dijo: Dame acá tu hijo. Entonces él lo tomó de su regazo, y lo llevó al aposento alto donde él habitaba, y le puso sobre su cama.

20 And he cried unto the LORD, and said, O LORD my God, hast thou also brought evil upon the widow with whom I sojourn, by slaying her son?

20 Y clamó a Jehová y dijo: Oh Jehová, Dios mío, ¿aun a la viuda en cuya casa estoy hospedado has afligido, haciendo morir a su hijo?

21 And he stretched himself upon the child three times, and cried unto the LORD, and said, O LORD my God, I pray thee, let this child's soul come into him again.

21 Y se tendió sobre el niño tres veces, y clamó a Jehová y dijo: Oh Jehová, Dios mío, te ruego que hagas volver el alma a este niño.

22 And the LORD heard the voice of Elijah; and the soul of the child came into him again, and he revived.

22 Y Jehová oyó la voz de Elías, y el alma volvió al niño y este revivió.

23 And Elijah took the child, and brought him down out of the chamber into the house, and delivered him unto his mother: and Elijah said, See, thy son liveth.

23 Y Elías tomó al niño y lo bajó del aposento a la casa, y lo dio a su madre, y Elías le dijo: Mira, tu hijo vive.

24 And the woman said to Elijah, Now by this I know that thou art a man of God, and that the word of the LORD in thy mouth is truth.

24 Entonces la mujer dijo a Elías: Ahora en esto reconozco que tú eres varón de Dios y que la palabra de Jehová es verdad en tu boca.
