1 And Rehoboam went to Shechem: for all Israel were come to Shechem to make him king.

1 Y Roboam fue a Siquem, porque todo Israel había ido a Siquem para hacerlo rey.

2 And it came to pass, when Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who was yet in Egypt, heard of it, (for he was fled from the presence of king Solomon, and Jeroboam dwelt in Egypt;)

2 Y aconteció que cuando lo oyó Jeroboam hijo de Nabat, que aún estaba en Egipto, adonde había huido de delante del rey Salomón, y habitaba en Egipto,

3 That they sent and called him. And Jeroboam and all the congregation of Israel came, and spake unto Rehoboam, saying,

3 enviaron a llamarle. Vino, pues, Jeroboam con toda la congregación de Israel, y hablaron a Roboam, diciendo:

4 Thy father made our yoke grievous: now therefore make thou the grievous service of thy father, and his heavy yoke which he put upon us, lighter, and we will serve thee.

4 Tu padre agravó nuestro yugo; y ahora, disminuye tú algo de la dura servidumbre de tu padre y del yugo pesado que puso sobre nosotros, y te serviremos.

5 And he said unto them, Depart yet for three days, then come again to me. And the people departed.

5 Y él les dijo: Idos, y de aquí a tres días volved a mí. Y el pueblo se fue.

6 And king Rehoboam consulted with the old men, that stood before Solomon his father while he yet lived, and said, How do ye advise that I may answer this people?

6 Entonces el rey Roboam pidió consejo a los ancianos que habían estado delante de su padre Salomón cuando vivía, y dijo: ¿Cómo aconsejáis vosotros que responda yo a este pueblo?

7 And they spake unto him, saying, If thou wilt be a servant unto this people this day, and wilt serve them, and answer them, and speak good words to them, then they will be thy servants for ever.

7 Y ellos le hablaron, diciendo: Si hoy te haces siervo de este pueblo y lo sirves, y les respondes y les dices buenas palabras, ellos te servirán para siempre.

8 But he forsook the counsel of the old men, which they had given him, and consulted with the young men that were grown up with him, and which stood before him:

8 Pero él desechó el consejo que los ancianos le habían dado, y pidió consejo a los jóvenes que se habían criado con él y que estaban delante de él.

9 And he said unto them, What counsel give ye that we may answer this people, who have spoken to me, saying, Make the yoke which thy father did put upon us lighter?

9 Y les dijo: ¿Cómo aconsejáis vosotros que respondamos a este pueblo que me ha hablado, diciendo: Disminuye algo del yugo que tu padre puso sobre nosotros?

10 And the young men that were grown up with him spake unto him, saying, Thus shalt thou speak unto this people that spake unto thee, saying, Thy father made our yoke heavy, but make thou it lighter unto us; thus shalt thou say unto them, My little finger shall be thicker than my father's loins.

10 Entonces los jóvenes que se habían criado con él le respondieron, diciendo: Así hablarás a este pueblo que te ha dicho estas palabras: Tu padre agravó nuestro yugo, pero tú disminúyenos algo; así les hablarás: El menor dedo de los míos es más grueso que los lomos de mi padre.

11 And now whereas my father did lade you with a heavy yoke, I will add to your yoke: my father hath chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions.

11 Ahora pues, mi padre os cargó con un pesado yugo, pero yo añadiré a vuestro yugo; mi padre os castigó con azotes, pero yo os castigaré con escorpiones.

12 So Jeroboam and all the people came to Rehoboam the third day, as the king had appointed, saying, Come to me again the third day.

12 Y al tercer día vino Jeroboam con todo el pueblo a Roboam, según lo había mandado el rey, diciendo: Volved a mí al tercer día.

13 And the king answered the people roughly, and forsook the old men's counsel that they gave him;

13 Y el rey respondió al pueblo duramente, desechando el consejo que los ancianos le habían dado,

14 And spake to them after the counsel of the young men, saying, My father made your yoke heavy, and I will add to your yoke: my father also chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions.

14 y les habló conforme al consejo de los jóvenes, diciendo: Mi padre agravó vuestro yugo, pero yo añadiré a vuestro yugo; mi padre os castigó con azotes, pero yo os castigaré con escorpiones.

15 Wherefore the king hearkened not unto the people; for the cause was from the LORD, that he might perform his saying, which the LORD spake by Ahijah the Shilonite unto Jeroboam the son of Nebat.

15 Y no escuchó el rey al pueblo, porque era designio de Jehová para confirmar la palabra que Jehová había hablado por medio de Ahías, el silonita, a Jeroboam hijo de Nabat.

16 So when all Israel saw that the king hearkened not unto them, the people answered the king, saying, What portion have we in David? neither have we inheritance in the son of Jesse: to your tents, O Israel: now see to thine own house, David. So Israel departed unto their tents.

16 Y cuando todo Israel vio que el rey no les escuchaba, el pueblo respondió al rey, diciendo: ¿Qué parte tenemos nosotros con David? No tenemos herencia en el hijo de Isaí. ¡Israel, a tus tiendas! ¡David, mira ahora por tu casa! Entonces Israel se fue a sus tiendas.

17 But as for the children of Israel which dwelt in the cities of Judah, Rehoboam reigned over them.

17 Pero reinó Roboam sobre los hijos de Israel que moraban en las ciudades de Judá.

18 Then king Rehoboam sent Adoram, who was over the tribute; and all Israel stoned him with stones, that he died. Therefore king Rehoboam made speed to get him up to his chariot, to flee to Jerusalem.

18 Y el rey Roboam envió a Adoram, que estaba sobre los tributos; pero le apedreó todo Israel, y murió. Entonces el rey Roboam se apresuró a subir en un carro y huir a Jerusalén.

19 So Israel rebelled against the house of David unto this day.

19 Así se rebeló Israel contra la casa de David hasta hoy.

20 And it came to pass, when all Israel heard that Jeroboam was come again, that they sent and called him unto the congregation, and made him king over all Israel: there was none that followed the house of David, but the tribe of Judah only.

20 Y aconteció, que al oír todo Israel que Jeroboam había vuelto, enviaron a llamarle a la congregación, y le hicieron rey sobre todo Israel, sin quedar tribu alguna que siguiese a la casa de David, sino solo la tribu de Judá.

21 And when Rehoboam was come to Jerusalem, he assembled all the house of Judah, with the tribe of Benjamin, an hundred and fourscore thousand chosen men, which were warriors, to fight against the house of Israel, to bring the kingdom again to Rehoboam the son of Solomon.

21 Y cuando Roboam llegó a Jerusalén, reunió a toda la casa de Judá y a la tribu de Benjamín, ciento ochenta mil guerreros escogidos, para hacer la guerra contra la casa de Israel y hacer volver el reino a Roboam hijo de Salomón.

22 But the word of God came unto Shemaiah the man of God, saying,

22 Pero vino la palabra de Jehová a Semaías, hombre de Dios, diciendo:

23 Speak unto Rehoboam, the son of Solomon, king of Judah, and unto all the house of Judah and Benjamin, and to the remnant of the people, saying,

23 Habla a Roboam hijo de Salomón, rey de Judá, y a toda la casa de Judá y de Benjamín, y a los demás del pueblo, y diles:

24 Thus saith the LORD, Ye shall not go up, nor fight against your brethren the children of Israel: return every man to his house; for this thing is from me. They hearkened therefore to the word of the LORD, and returned to depart, according to the word of the LORD.

24 Así ha dicho Jehová: No vayáis, ni peleéis contra vuestros hermanos, los hijos de Israel; vuelva cada uno a su casa, porque esto lo he hecho yo. Y ellos escucharon la palabra de Dios, y volvieron y se fueron, conforme a la palabra de Jehová.

25 Then Jeroboam built Shechem in mount Ephraim, and dwelt therein; and went out from thence, and built Penuel.

25 Y reedificó Jeroboam Siquem en los montes de Efraín, y habitó en ella; y salió de allí y reedificó Penuel.

26 And Jeroboam said in his heart, Now shall the kingdom return to the house of David:

26 Y dijo Jeroboam en su corazón: Ahora volverá el reino a la casa de David.

27 If this people go up to do sacrifice in the house of the LORD at Jerusalem, then shall the heart of this people turn again unto their lord, even unto Rehoboam king of Judah, and they shall kill me, and go again to Rehoboam king of Judah.

27 Si este pueblo sube a ofrecer sacrificios en la casa de Jehová en Jerusalén, el corazón de este pueblo se volverá a su señor Roboam, rey de Judá, y me matarán a mí y se volverán a Roboam, rey de Judá.

28 Whereupon the king took counsel, and made two calves of gold, and said unto them, It is too much for you to go up to Jerusalem: behold thy gods, O Israel, which brought thee up out of the land of Egypt.

28 Y después de tomar consejo, hizo el rey dos becerros de oro y dijo al pueblo: Bastante habéis subido a Jerusalén; he aquí tus dioses, oh Israel, que te hicieron subir de la tierra de Egipto.

29 And he set the one in Beth-el, and the other put he in Dan.

29 Y puso uno en Bet-el y puso el otro en Dan.

30 And this thing became a sin: for the people went to worship before the one, even unto Dan.

30 Y esto fue causa de pecado, porque el pueblo iba a adorar delante de uno de ellos, hasta Dan.

31 And he made an house of high places, and made priests of the lowest of the people, which were not of the sons of Levi.

31 Hizo también casas en los lugares altos, e hizo sacerdotes de entre todo el pueblo que no eran de los hijos de Leví.

32 And Jeroboam ordained a feast in the eighth month, on the fifteenth day of the month, like unto the feast that is in Judah, and he offered upon the altar. So did he in Beth-el, sacrificing unto the calves that he had made: and he placed in Beth-el the priests of the high places which he had made.

32 Entonces instituyó Jeroboam una fiesta solemne en el mes octavo, a los quince días del mes, semejante a la fiesta solemne que se celebraba en Judá; y ofreció sacrificios sobre el altar. Así hizo en Bet-el, ofreciendo sacrificios a los becerros que había hecho. Puso también en Bet-el sacerdotes para los lugares altos que él había hecho.

33 So he offered upon the altar which he had made in Beth-el the fifteenth day of the eighth month, even in the month which he had devised of his own heart; and ordained a feast unto the children of Israel: and he offered upon the altar, and burnt incense.

33 Y ofreció sacrificios sobre el altar que él había hecho en Bet-el, a los quince días del mes octavo, en el mes que él había inventado en su propio corazón; e hizo fiesta para los hijos de Israel, y subió al altar para ofrendar.
