1 Now the Philistines fought against Israel; and the men of Israel fled from before the Philistines, and fell down slain in mount Gilboa.

1 Y los filisteos pelearon contra Israel, y los hombres de Israel huyeron delante de los filisteos y cayeron muertos en el monte Gilboa.

2 And the Philistines followed hard after Saul, and after his sons; and the Philistines slew Jonathan, and Abinadab, and Malchi-shua, the sons of Saul.

2 Y los filisteos persiguieron muy de cerca a Saúl y a sus hijos, y los filisteos mataron a Jonatán, y a Abinadab y a Malquisúa, hijos de Saúl.

3 And the battle went sore against Saul, and the archers hit him, and he was wounded of the archers.

3 Y arreció la batalla contra Saúl, y le alcanzaron los arqueros y fue herido por los flecheros.

4 Then said Saul to his armourbearer, Draw thy sword, and thrust me through therewith; lest these uncircumcised come and abuse me. But his armourbearer would not; for he was sore afraid. So Saul took a sword, and fell upon it.

4 Entonces dijo Saúl a su escudero: Saca tu espada y traspásame con ella, no sea que vengan estos incircuncisos y hagan escarnio de mí; pero su escudero no quiso, porque tenía mucho miedo. Entonces Saúl tomó la espada y se echó sobre ella.

5 And when his armourbearer saw that Saul was dead, he fell likewise on the sword, and died.

5 Y cuando su escudero vio a Saúl muerto, él también se echó sobre su espada y se mató.

6 So Saul died, and his three sons, and all his house died together.

6 Así murieron Saúl y sus tres hijos, y toda su casa murió juntamente con él.

7 And when all the men of Israel that were in the valley saw that they fled, and that Saul and his sons were dead, then they forsook their cities, and fled: and the Philistines came and dwelt in them.

7 Y cuando todos los hombres de Israel que habitaban en el valle, vieron que ellos habían huido, y que Saúl y sus hijos habían muerto, dejaron sus ciudades y huyeron. Y vinieron los filisteos y habitaron en ellas.

8 And it came to pass on the morrow, when the Philistines came to strip the slain, that they found Saul and his sons fallen in mount Gilboa.

8 Y aconteció que al día siguiente, cuando los filisteos fueron a despojar a los muertos, hallaron a Saúl y a sus hijos caídos en el monte Gilboa.

9 And when they had stripped him, they took his head, and his armour, and sent into the land of the Philistines round about, to carry tidings unto their idols, and to the people.

9 Y cuando le hubieron despojado, tomaron su cabeza y sus armas, y enviaron todo a la tierra de los filisteos por todas partes, para dar las buenas nuevas a sus ídolos y al pueblo.

10 And they put his armour in the house of their gods, and fastened his head in the temple of Dagon.

10 Y pusieron sus armas en el templo de sus dioses y colgaron su cabeza en el templo de Dagón.

11 And when all Jabesh-gilead heard all that the Philistines had done to Saul,

11 Y cuando todos los de Jabes de Galaad oyeron todo lo que los filisteos habían hecho a Saúl,

12 They arose, all the valiant men, and took away the body of Saul, and the bodies of his sons, and brought them to Jabesh, and buried their bones under the oak in Jabesh, and fasted seven days.

12 se levantaron todos los hombres valientes y tomaron el cuerpo de Saúl y los cuerpos de sus hijos, y los trajeron a Jabes; y enterraron sus huesos debajo de la encina en Jabes y ayunaron siete días.

13 So Saul died for his transgression which he committed against the LORD, even against the word of the LORD, which he kept not, and also for asking counsel of one that had a familiar spirit, to inquire of it;

13 Así murió Saúl por la transgresión con la cual transgredió contra Jehová, contra la palabra de Jehová, la cual no guardó; y también porque consultó a una adivina y le pidió consejo,

14 And inquired not of the LORD: therefore he slew him, and turned the kingdom unto David the son of Jesse.

14 y no consultó a Jehová; por esta causa él lo mató, y pasó el reino a David hijo de Isaí.
