1 Know ye not, brethren, (for I speak to them that know the law,) how that the law hath dominion over a man as long as he liveth?

1 ¿Ignoráis, hermanos (porque hablo con los que conocen la ley), que la ley se enseñorea del hombre entretanto que este vive?

2 For the woman which hath an husband is bound by the law to her husband so long as he liveth; but if the husband be dead, she is loosed from the law of her husband.

2 Porque la mujer que tiene marido, mientras el marido vive está ligada a este por la ley; pero muerto el marido, libre es de la ley del marido.

3 So then if, while her husband liveth, she be married to another man, she shall be called an adulteress: but if her husband be dead, she is free from that law; so that she is no adulteress, though she be married to another man.

3 Así que, mientras vive el marido, si se une a otro hombre, se llamará adúltera; pero si su marido muere, es libre de esa ley, de tal manera que si se une a otro marido, no será adúltera.

4 Wherefore, my brethren, ye also are become dead to the law by the body of Christ; that ye should be married to another, even to him who is raised from the dead, that we should bring forth fruit unto God.

4 Así también vosotros, hermanos míos, habéis muerto a la ley mediante el cuerpo de Cristo, para que seáis de otro, a saber, del que resucitó de entre los muertos, a fin de que llevemos fruto para Dios.

5 For when we were in the flesh, the motions of sins, which were by the law, did work in our members to bring forth fruit unto death.

5 Porque mientras estábamos en la carne, las pasiones pecaminosas, que eran por la ley, actuaban en nuestros miembros llevando fruto para muerte.

6 But now we are delivered from the law, that being dead wherein we were held; that we should serve in newness of spirit, and not in the oldness of the letter.

6 Pero ahora estamos libres de la ley, por haber muerto para aquella en la cual estábamos sujetos, de modo que sirvamos en novedad de espíritu, y no en lo viejo de la letra.

7 What shall we say then? Is the law sin? God forbid. Nay, I had not known sin, but by the law: for I had not known lust, except the law had said, Thou shalt not covet.

7 ¿Qué, pues, diremos? ¿La ley es pecado? ¡De ninguna manera! Pero yo no conocí el pecado sino por la ley, y tampoco hubiera conocido la lujuria, si la ley no dijera: No codiciarás.

8 But sin, taking occasion by the commandment, wrought in me all manner of concupiscence. For without the law sin was dead.

8 Pero el pecado, tomando ocasión por el mandamiento, produjo en mí toda concupiscencia; porque sin la ley el pecado está muerto.

9 For I was alive without the law once: but when the commandment came, sin revived, and I died.

9 Así que, yo sin la ley viví en un tiempo; pero venido el mandamiento, el pecado revivió, y yo morí.

10 And the commandment, which was ordained to life, I found to be unto death.

10 Y hallé que el mandamiento, que era para vida, para mí era muerte;

11 For sin, taking occasion by the commandment, deceived me, and by it slew me.

11 porque el pecado, tomando ocasión por el mandamiento, me engañó, y por él me mató.

12 Wherefore the law is holy, and the commandment holy, and just, and good.

12 De manera que la ley a la verdad es santa, y el mandamiento es santo, y justo y bueno.

13 Was then that which is good made death unto me? God forbid. But sin, that it might appear sin, working death in me by that which is good; that sin by the commandment might become exceeding sinful.

13 Entonces, ¿lo que es bueno vino a ser muerte para mí? No; sino que el pecado, para mostrarse como pecado, por lo que es bueno produjo en mí la muerte, para que, mediante el mandamiento, el pecado llegase a ser pecaminoso en extremo.

14 For we know that the law is spiritual: but I am carnal, sold under sin.

14 Porque sabemos que la ley es espiritual; pero yo soy carnal, vendido a la esclavitud del pecado.

15 For that which I do I allow not: for what I would, that do I not; but what I hate, that do I.

15 Porque lo que hago, no lo entiendo, ni hago lo que quiero; antes bien, lo que aborrezco, eso hago.

16 If then I do that which I would not, I consent unto the law that it is good.

16 Y si hago lo que no quiero, apruebo que la ley es buena.

17 Now then it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me.

17 De manera que ya no soy yo quien hace aquello, sino el pecado que mora en mí.

18 For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not.

18 Y yo sé que en mí (a saber, en mi carne) no mora el bien, porque el querer el bien está en mí, pero no el hacerlo.

19 For the good that I would I do not: but the evil which I would not, that I do.

19 Porque no hago el bien que quiero, sino el mal que no quiero, eso hago.

20 Now if I do that I would not, it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me.

20 Y si hago lo que no quiero, ya no lo hago yo, sino el pecado que mora en mí.

21 I find then a law, that, when I would do good, evil is present with me.

21 Así que, queriendo yo hacer el bien, hallo esta ley: Que el mal está en mí.

22 For I delight in the law of God after the inward man:

22 Porque según el hombre interior, me deleito en la ley de Dios;

23 But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members.

23 pero veo otra ley en mis miembros, que se rebela contra la ley de mi mente, y que me lleva cautivo a la ley del pecado que está en mis miembros.

24 O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death?

24 ¡Miserable de mí! ¿Quién me librará de este cuerpo de muerte?

25 I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin.

25 Gracias doy a Dios por medio de Jesucristo Señor nuestro. Así que, yo mismo con la mente sirvo a la ley de Dios, pero con la carne, a la ley del pecado.
