1 When the morning was come, all the chief priests and elders of the people took counsel against Jesus to put him to death:

1 Y cuando llegó la mañana, todos los principales sacerdotes y los ancianos del pueblo entraron en consejo contra Jesús, para entregarle a muerte.

2 And when they had bound him, they led him away, and delivered him to Pontius Pilate the governor.

2 Y lo llevaron atado y lo entregaron a Poncio Pilato, el gobernador.

3 Then Judas, which had betrayed him, when he saw that he was condemned, repented himself, and brought again the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders,

3 Entonces Judas, el que le había entregado, viendo que era condenado, devolvió arrepentido las treinta piezas de plata a los principales sacerdotes y a los ancianos,

4 Saying, I have sinned in that I have betrayed the innocent blood. And they said, What is that to us? see thou to that.

4 diciendo: Yo he pecado entregando sangre inocente. Pero ellos dijeron: ¿Qué nos importa a nosotros? ¡Allá tú!

5 And he cast down the pieces of silver in the temple, and departed, and went and hanged himself.

5 Entonces, arrojando las piezas de plata en el templo, salió, y fue y se ahorcó.

6 And the chief priests took the silver pieces, and said, It is not lawful for to put them into the treasury, because it is the price of blood.

6 Y los principales sacerdotes, tomando las piezas de plata, dijeron: No es lícito echarlas en el tesoro, porque es precio de sangre.

7 And they took counsel, and bought with them the potter's field, to bury strangers in.

7 Pero después de haber deliberado, compraron con ellas el campo del alfarero, para sepultura de los extranjeros.

8 Wherefore that field was called, The field of blood, unto this day.

8 Por lo cual aquel campo se ha llamado Campo de Sangre hasta el día de hoy.

9 Then was fulfilled that which was spoken by Jeremy the prophet, saying, And they took the thirty pieces of silver, the price of him that was valued, whom they of the children of Israel did value;

9 Entonces se cumplió lo que fue dicho por el profeta Jeremías, cuando dijo: Y tomaron las treinta piezas de plata, precio del apreciado, que fue fijado por los hijos de Israel;

10 And gave them for the potter's field, as the Lord appointed me.

10 y las dieron para el campo del alfarero, como me ordenó el Señor.

11 And Jesus stood before the governor: and the governor asked him, saying, Art thou the King of the Jews? And Jesus said unto him, Thou sayest.

11 Y Jesús estaba de pie delante del gobernador; y el gobernador le preguntó, diciendo: ¿Eres tú el Rey de los judíos? Y Jesús le dijo: Tú lo dices.

12 And when he was accused of the chief priests and elders, he answered nothing.

12 Y al ser acusado por los principales sacerdotes y por los ancianos, nada respondió.

13 Then said Pilate unto him, Hearest thou not how many things they witness against thee?

13 Pilato entonces le dijo: ¿No oyes cuántas cosas testifican contra ti?

14 And he answered him to never a word; insomuch that the governor marvelled greatly.

14 Pero Jesús no le respondió ni una palabra, de tal manera que el gobernador se maravillaba mucho.

15 Now at that feast the governor was wont to release unto the people a prisoner, whom they would.

15 Y, en el día de la fiesta, acostumbraba el gobernador soltar un preso al pueblo, el que quisiesen.

16 And they had then a notable prisoner, called Barabbas.

16 Y tenían entonces un preso famoso que se llamaba Barrabás.

17 Therefore when they were gathered together, Pilate said unto them, Whom will ye that I release unto you? Barabbas, or Jesus which is called Christ?

17 Y habiéndose ellos reunido, les dijo Pilato: ¿A quién queréis que os suelte? ¿A Barrabás o a Jesús, que es llamado el Cristo?,

18 For he knew that for envy they had delivered him.

18 porque sabía que por envidia le habían entregado.

19 When he was set down on the judgment seat, his wife sent unto him, saying, Have thou nothing to do with that just man: for I have suffered many things this day in a dream because of him.

19 Y estando él sentado en el tribunal, su esposa le mandó decir: No tengas nada que ver con ese justo, porque hoy he padecido muchas cosas en sueños por causa de él.

20 But the chief priests and elders persuaded the multitude that they should ask Barabbas, and destroy Jesus.

20 Pero los principales sacerdotes y los ancianos persuadieron al pueblo de que pidiese a Barrabás, y de que se diese muerte a Jesús.

21 The governor answered and said unto them, Whether of the twain will ye that I release unto you? They said, Barabbas.

21 Y respondiendo el gobernador, les dijo: ¿A cuál de los dos queréis que os suelte? Y ellos dijeron: ¡A Barrabás!

22 Pilate saith unto them, What shall I do then with Jesus which is called Christ? They all say unto him, Let him be crucified.

22 Pilato les dijo: ¿Qué, pues, haré con Jesús, que es llamado el Cristo? Le dijeron todos: ¡Sea crucificado!

23 And the governor said, Why, what evil hath he done? But they cried out the more, saying, Let him be crucified.

23 Y el gobernador les dijo: Pues, ¿qué mal ha hecho? Pero ellos gritaban más, diciendo: ¡Sea crucificado!

24 When Pilate saw that he could prevail nothing, but that rather a tumult was made, he took water, and washed his hands before the multitude, saying, I am innocent of the blood of this just person: see ye to it.

24 Y viendo Pilato que nada adelantaba, sino que se hacía más alboroto, tomó agua y se lavó las manos delante del pueblo, diciendo: Inocente soy yo de la sangre de este justo. ¡Allá vosotros!

25 Then answered all the people, and said, His blood be on us, and on our children.

25 Y respondiendo todo el pueblo, dijo: Su sangre sea sobre nosotros y sobre nuestros hijos.

26 Then released he Barabbas unto them: and when he had scourged Jesus, he delivered him to be crucified.

26 Entonces les soltó a Barrabás; y habiendo azotado a Jesús, le entregó para ser crucificado.

27 Then the soldiers of the governor took Jesus into the common hall, and gathered unto him the whole band of soldiers.

27 Entonces los soldados del gobernador llevaron a Jesús al pretorio y reunieron alrededor de él a toda la compañía;

28 And they stripped him, and put on him a scarlet robe.

28 y desnudándole, le echaron encima un manto de escarlata;

29 And when they had plaited a crown of thorns, they put it upon his head, and a reed in his right hand: and they bowed the knee before him, and mocked him, saying, Hail, King of the Jews!

29 y pusieron sobre su cabeza una corona tejida de espinas, y una caña en su mano derecha; e hincando la rodilla delante de él, se burlaban de él, diciendo: ¡Salve, Rey de los judíos!

30 And they spit upon him, and took the reed, and smote him on the head.

30 Y escupiendo en él, tomaron la caña y le golpeaban la cabeza.

31 And after that they had mocked him, they took the robe off from him, and put his own raiment on him, and led him away to crucify him.

31 Y después que le hubieron escarnecido, le quitaron el manto, y le pusieron sus ropas y le llevaron para crucificarle.

32 And as they came out, they found a man of Cyrene, Simon by name: him they compelled to bear his cross.

32 Y al salir, hallaron a un cireneo que se llamaba Simón; a este obligaron a que llevase la cruz.

33 And when they were come unto a place called Golgotha, that is to say, a place of a skull,

33 Y cuando llegaron al lugar llamado Gólgota, que significa: Lugar de la Calavera,

34 They gave him vinegar to drink mingled with gall: and when he had tasted thereof, he would not drink.

34 le dieron de beber vinagre mezclado con hiel; pero después de haberlo probado, no quiso beber lo.

35 And they crucified him, and parted his garments, casting lots: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, They parted my garments among them, and upon my vesture did they cast lots.

35 Y después que le hubieron crucificado, repartieron entre sí sus ropas, echando suertes, para que se cumpliese lo que fue dicho por el profeta: Se repartieron mis ropas, y sobre mi ropa echaron suertes.

36 And sitting down they watched him there;

36 Y sentados le custodiaban allí.

37 And set up over his head his accusation written, THIS IS JESUS THE KING OF THE JEWS.

37 Y pusieron sobre su cabeza su acusación escrita: Este ES JESÚS, EL REY DE LOS JUDÍOS.

38 Then were there two thieves crucified with him, one on the right hand, and another on the left.

38 Entonces crucificaron con él a dos ladrones, uno a la derecha y otro a la izquierda.

39 And they that passed by reviled him, wagging their heads,

39 Y los que pasaban le injuriaban, meneando la cabeza,

40 And saying, Thou that destroyest the temple, and buildest it in three days, save thyself. If thou be the Son of God, come down from the cross.

40 y diciendo: Tú, el que derribas el templo y en tres días lo reedificas, sálvate a ti mismo; si eres el Hijo de Dios, desciende de la cruz.

41 Likewise also the chief priests mocking him, with the scribes and elders, said,

41 De esta manera también los principales sacerdotes, escarneciéndole con los escribas y los fariseos y los ancianos, decían:

42 He saved others; himself he cannot save. If he be the King of Israel, let him now come down from the cross, and we will believe him.

42 A otros salvó, pero a sí mismo no puede salvarse. Si es el Rey de Israel, descienda ahora de la cruz, y creeremos en él.

43 He trusted in God; let him deliver him now, if he will have him: for he said, I am the Son of God.

43 Confió en Dios; líbrele ahora si le quiere, porque ha dicho: Soy el Hijo de Dios.

44 The thieves also, which were crucified with him, cast the same in his teeth.

44 También le insultaban los ladrones que estaban crucificados con él.

45 Now from the sixth hour there was darkness over all the land unto the ninth hour.

45 Y desde la hora sexta hubo tinieblas sobre toda la tierra hasta la hora novena.

46 And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?

46 Y cerca de la hora novena, Jesús clamó a gran voz, diciendo: ¡Elí, Elí!, ¿lama sabactani? Esto es: ¡Dios mío, Dios mío!, ¿por qué me has desamparado?

47 Some of them that stood there, when they heard that, said, This man calleth for Elias.

47 Y algunos de los que estaban allí, al oírle, decían: A Elías llama este.

48 And straightway one of them ran, and took a sponge, and filled it with vinegar, and put it on a reed, and gave him to drink.

48 Y enseguida, corriendo uno de ellos, tomó una esponja, y la empapó de vinagre, y poniéndola en una caña, le dio de beber.

49 The rest said, Let be, let us see whether Elias will come to save him.

49 Pero los otros decían: Deja, veamos si viene Elías a librarle.

50 Jesus, when he had cried again with a loud voice, yielded up the ghost.

50 Mas Jesús, habiendo otra vez clamado a gran voz, entregó el espíritu.

51 And, behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake, and the rocks rent;

51 Y he aquí, el velo del templo se rasgó en dos, de arriba abajo; y la tierra tembló y las rocas se partieron;

52 And the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints which slept arose,

52 y se abrieron los sepulcros, y muchos cuerpos de santos que habían dormido se levantaron;

53 And came out of the graves after his resurrection, and went into the holy city, and appeared unto many.

53 y saliendo de los sepulcros, después de la resurrección de Jesús, vinieron a la santa ciudad y se aparecieron a muchos.

54 Now when the centurion, and they that were with him, watching Jesus, saw the earthquake, and those things that were done, they feared greatly, saying, Truly this was the Son of God.

54 Y cuando el centurión y los que estaban con él custodiando a Jesús vieron el terremoto y las cosas que habían sido hechas, temieron en gran manera y dijeron: ¡Verdaderamente este era el Hijo de Dios!

55 And many women were there beholding afar off, which followed Jesus from Galilee, ministering unto him:

55 Y estaban allí muchas mujeres mirando de lejos, las cuales habían seguido a Jesús desde Galilea, sirviéndole,

56 Among which was Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James and Joses, and the mother of Zebedee's children.

56 entre las cuales estaban María Magdalena, y María la madre de Jacobo y de José, y la madre de los hijos de Zebedeo.

57 When the even was come, there came a rich man of Arimathæa, named Joseph, who also himself was Jesus' disciple:

57 Y al atardecer, vino un hombre rico de Arimatea, llamado José, que también había sido discípulo de Jesús.

58 He went to Pilate, and begged the body of Jesus. Then Pilate commanded the body to be delivered.

58 Este fue a Pilato y pidió el cuerpo de Jesús; entonces Pilato mandó que se le diese el cuerpo.

59 And when Joseph had taken the body, he wrapped it in a clean linen cloth,

59 Y tomando José el cuerpo, lo envolvió en una sábana limpia

60 And laid it in his own new tomb, which he had hewn out in the rock: and he rolled a great stone to the door of the sepulchre, and departed.

60 y lo puso en su sepulcro nuevo, que había labrado en la peña; y después de haber hecho rodar una gran piedra a la entrada del sepulcro, se fue.

61 And there was Mary Magdalene, and the other Mary, sitting over against the sepulchre.

61 Y estaban allí María Magdalena y la otra María, sentadas delante del sepulcro.

62 Now the next day, that followed the day of the preparation, the chief priests and Pharisees came together unto Pilate,

62 Y al día siguiente, que es después de la preparación, se reunieron los principales sacerdotes y los fariseos ante Pilato,

63 Saying, Sir, we remember that that deceiver said, while he was yet alive, After three days I will rise again.

63 y le dijeron: Señor, nos acordamos de que aquel engañador dijo, viviendo aún: Después de tres días resucitaré.

64 Command therefore that the sepulchre be made sure until the third day, lest his disciples come by night, and steal him away, and say unto the people, He is risen from the dead: so the last error shall be worse than the first.

64 Manda, pues, que se asegure el sepulcro hasta el tercer día; no sea que vengan sus discípulos de noche, y lo hurten y digan al pueblo: Resucitó de entre los muertos. Y será el postrer error peor que el primero.

65 Pilate said unto them, Ye have a watch: go your way, make it as sure as ye can.

65 Y Pilato les dijo: Ahí tenéis una guardia; id, aseguradlo como sabéis.

66 So they went, and made the sepulchre sure, sealing the stone, and setting a watch.

66 Entonces ellos fueron y aseguraron el sepulcro, sellando la piedra y poniendo la guardia.
