1 Then spake Jesus to the multitude, and to his disciples,

1 Entonces habló Jesús a la multitud y a sus discípulos,

2 Saying, The scribes and the Pharisees sit in Moses' seat:

2 diciendo: Sobre la cátedra de Moisés se han sentado los escribas y los fariseos.

3 All therefore whatsoever they bid you observe, that observe and do; but do not ye after their works: for they say, and do not.

3 Así que, todo lo que os digan que guardéis, guardad lo y haced lo; pero no hagáis conforme a sus obras, porque dicen, pero no hacen.

4 For they bind heavy burdens and grievous to be borne, and lay them on men's shoulders; but they themselves will not move them with one of their fingers.

4 Porque atan cargas pesadas y difíciles de llevar, y las ponen sobre los hombros de los hombres; pero ellos ni con un dedo quieren moverlas.

5 But all their works they do for to be seen of men: they make broad their phylacteries, and enlarge the borders of their garments,

5 Antes bien, hacen todas sus obras para ser vistos por los hombres; pues ensanchan sus filacterias y extienden los flecos de sus mantos;

6 And love the uppermost rooms at feasts, and the chief seats in the synagogues,

6 y anhelan los primeros asientos en las cenas, y las primeras sillas en las sinagogas,

7 And greetings in the markets, and to be called of men, Rabbi, Rabbi.

7 y las salutaciones en las plazas y el ser llamados por los hombres: Rabí, Rabí.

8 But be not ye called Rabbi: for one is your Master, even Christ; and all ye are brethren.

8 Pero vosotros no queráis ser llamados Rabí; porque uno es vuestro Maestro, el Cristo, y todos vosotros sois hermanos.

9 And call no man your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven.

9 Y no llaméis a nadie en la tierra vuestro padre, porque uno es vuestro Padre, el que está en los cielos.

10 Neither be ye called masters: for one is your Master, even Christ.

10 Ni seáis llamados maestros, porque uno es vuestro Maestro, el Cristo.

11 But he that is greatest among you shall be your servant.

11 El que es el mayor entre vosotros será vuestro siervo.

12 And whosoever shall exalt himself shall be abased; and he that shall humble himself shall be exalted.

12 Porque el que se enaltece será humillado, y el que se humilla será enaltecido.

13 But woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye shut up the kingdom of heaven against men: for ye neither go in yourselves, neither suffer ye them that are entering to go in.

13 Pero, ¡ay de vosotros, escribas y fariseos, hipócritas!, porque cerráis el reino de los cielos delante de los hombres; pues ni vosotros entráis ni dejáis entrar a los que están entrando.

14 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye devour widows' houses, and for a pretence make long prayer: therefore ye shall receive the greater damnation.

14 ¡Ay de vosotros, escribas y fariseos, hipócritas!, porque devoráis las casas de las viudas y, como pretexto, hacéis larga oración; por esto recibiréis mayor condenación.

15 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye compass sea and land to make one proselyte, and when he is made, ye make him twofold more the child of hell than yourselves.

15 ¡Ay de vosotros, escribas y fariseos, hipócritas!, porque recorréis mar y tierra para hacer un prosélito; y cuando lo conseguís, le hacéis dos veces más hijo del infierno que vosotros.

16 Woe unto you, ye blind guides, which say, Whosoever shall swear by the temple, it is nothing; but whosoever shall swear by the gold of the temple, he is a debtor!

16 ¡Ay de vosotros, guías ciegos!, que decís: Cualquiera que jure por el templo, no significa nada; pero cualquiera que jure por el oro del templo, queda obligado.

17 Ye fools and blind: for whether is greater, the gold, or the temple that sanctifieth the gold?

17 ¡Insensatos y ciegos! Porque, ¿cuál es mayor, el oro o el templo que santifica al oro?

18 And, Whosoever shall swear by the altar, it is nothing; but whosoever sweareth by the gift that is upon it, he is guilty.

18 También decís: Cualquiera que jure por el altar, no significa nada; pero cualquiera que jure por la ofrenda que está sobre él, queda obligado.

19 Ye fools and blind: for whether is greater, the gift, or the altar that sanctifieth the gift?

19 ¡Necios y ciegos! Porque, ¿cuál es mayor, la ofrenda o el altar que santifica la ofrenda?

20 Whoso therefore shall swear by the altar, sweareth by it, and by all things thereon.

20 Pues el que jura por el altar, jura por él y por todo lo que está sobre él;

21 And whoso shall swear by the temple, sweareth by it, and by him that dwelleth therein.

21 y el que jura por el templo, jura por él y por Aquel que habita en él;

22 And he that shall swear by heaven, sweareth by the throne of God, and by him that sitteth thereon.

22 y el que jura por el cielo, jura por el trono de Dios y por Aquel que está sentado sobre él.

23 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have omitted the weightier matters of the law, judgment, mercy, and faith: these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone.

23 ¡Ay de vosotros, escribas y fariseos, hipócritas!, porque diezmáis la menta, y el eneldo y el comino, y habéis dejado lo más importante de la ley: la justicia, y la misericordia y la fe; esto era menester hacer, sin dejar de hacer lo otro.

24 Ye blind guides, which strain at a gnat, and swallow a camel.

24 ¡Guías ciegos, que coláis el mosquito, pero tragáis el camello!

25 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye make clean the outside of the cup and of the platter, but within they are full of extortion and excess.

25 ¡Ay de vosotros, escribas y fariseos, hipócritas!, porque limpiáis lo que está fuera del vaso y del plato; pero por dentro estáis llenos de robo y de injusticia.

26 Thou blind Pharisee, cleanse first that which is within the cup and platter, that the outside of them may be clean also.

26 ¡Fariseo ciego, limpia primero lo de dentro del vaso y del plato, para que también lo de fuera quede limpio!

27 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye are like unto whited sepulchres, which indeed appear beautiful outward, but are within full of dead men's bones, and of all uncleanness.

27 ¡Ay de vosotros, escribas y fariseos, hipócritas!, porque sois semejantes a sepulcros blanqueados, que por fuera, a la verdad, se muestran hermosos, pero por dentro están llenos de huesos de muertos y de toda inmundicia.

28 Even so ye also outwardly appear righteous unto men, but within ye are full of hypocrisy and iniquity.

28 Así también vosotros por fuera, a la verdad, os mostráis justos a los hombres, pero por dentro estáis llenos de hipocresía e iniquidad.

29 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! because ye build the tombs of the prophets, and garnish the sepulchres of the righteous,

29 ¡Ay de vosotros, escribas y fariseos, hipócritas!, porque edificáis los sepulcros de los profetas y adornáis los monumentos de los justos,

30 And say, If we had been in the days of our fathers, we would not have been partakers with them in the blood of the prophets.

30 y decís: Si hubiéramos vivido en los días de nuestros padres, no habríamos sido sus cómplices en la sangre de los profetas.

31 Wherefore ye be witnesses unto yourselves, that ye are the children of them which killed the prophets.

31 Así dais testimonio contra vosotros mismos de que sois hijos de aquellos que mataron a los profetas.

32 Fill ye up then the measure of your fathers.

32 ¡También vosotros, llenad la medida de vuestros padres!

33 Ye serpents, ye generation of vipers, how can ye escape the damnation of hell?

33 ¡Serpientes, generación de víboras! ¿Cómo escaparéis del juicio del infierno?

34 Wherefore, behold, I send unto you prophets, and wise men, and scribes: and some of them ye shall kill and crucify; and some of them shall ye scourge in your synagogues, and persecute them from city to city:

34 Por tanto, he aquí, yo os envío profetas, y sabios y escribas; y de ellos, a unos mataréis y crucificaréis, y a otros azotaréis en vuestras sinagogas y perseguiréis de ciudad en ciudad;

35 That upon you may come all the righteous blood shed upon the earth, from the blood of righteous Abel unto the blood of Zacharias son of Barachias, whom ye slew between the temple and the altar.

35 para que venga sobre vosotros toda la sangre justa que se ha derramado sobre la tierra, desde la sangre de Abel, el justo, hasta la sangre de Zacarías hijo de Berequías, al que matasteis entre el templo y el altar.

36 Verily I say unto you, All these things shall come upon this generation.

36 De cierto os digo que todo esto vendrá sobre esta generación.

37 O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets, and stonest them which are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, and ye would not!

37 ¡Jerusalén, Jerusalén, que matas a los profetas y apedreas a los que son enviados a ti! ¡Cuántas veces quise juntar a tus hijos, como la gallina junta sus polluelos debajo de las alas, y no quisiste!

38 Behold, your house is left unto you desolate.

38 He aquí, vuestra casa os es dejada desierta.

39 For I say unto you, Ye shall not see me henceforth, till ye shall say, Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord.

39 Porque os digo que desde ahora en adelante no me veréis más, hasta que digáis: ¡Bendito el que viene en el nombre del Señor!
