1 And straightway in the morning the chief priests held a consultation with the elders and scribes and the whole council, and bound Jesus, and carried him away, and delivered him to Pilate.

1 Y muy temprano por la mañana, habiendo tenido consejo los principales sacerdotes con los ancianos, y con los escribas y con todo el concilio, llevaron a Jesús atado y lo entregaron a Pilato.

2 And Pilate asked him, Art thou the King of the Jews? And he answering said unto him, Thou sayest it.

2 Y Pilato le preguntó: ¿Eres tú el Rey de los judíos? Y respondiendo él, le dijo: Tú lo dices.

3 And the chief priests accused him of many things: but he answered nothing.

3 Y los principales sacerdotes le acusaban de muchas cosas.

4 And Pilate asked him again, saying, Answerest thou nothing? behold how many things they witness against thee.

4 Y Pilato le preguntó otra vez, diciendo: ¿No respondes nada? Mira de cuántas cosas te acusan.

5 But Jesus yet answered nothing; so that Pilate marvelled.

5 Pero Jesús ni aun con eso respondió, de modo que Pilato se maravillaba.

6 Now at that feast he released unto them one prisoner, whomsoever they desired.

6 Ahora bien, en el día de la fiesta les soltaba un preso, cualquiera que pidiesen.

7 And there was one named Barabbas, which lay bound with them that had made insurrection with him, who had committed murder in the insurrection.

7 Y había uno que se llamaba Barrabás, preso con sus compañeros de motín que habían cometido homicidio en una revuelta.

8 And the multitude crying aloud began to desire him to do as he had ever done unto them.

8 Y viniendo la multitud, comenzó a pedir que hiciese como siempre les había hecho.

9 But Pilate answered them, saying, Will ye that I release unto you the King of the Jews?

9 Y Pilato les respondió, diciendo: ¿Queréis que os suelte al Rey de los judíos?

10 For he knew that the chief priests had delivered him for envy.

10 Porque sabía que por envidia le habían entregado los principales sacerdotes.

11 But the chief priests moved the people, that he should rather release Barabbas unto them.

11 Pero los principales sacerdotes incitaron a la multitud para que les soltase más bien a Barrabás.

12 And Pilate answered and said again unto them, What will ye then that I shall do unto him whom ye call the King of the Jews?

12 Y respondiendo Pilato, les dijo otra vez: ¿Qué, pues, queréis que haga del que llamáis Rey de los judíos?

13 And they cried out again, Crucify him.

13 Y ellos volvieron a dar voces: ¡Crucifícale!

14 Then Pilate said unto them, Why, what evil hath he done? And they cried out the more exceedingly, Crucify him.

14 Mas Pilato les dijo: ¿Pues qué mal ha hecho? Pero ellos daban más voces: ¡Crucifícale!

15 And so Pilate, willing to content the people, released Barabbas unto them, and delivered Jesus, when he had scourged him, to be crucified.

15 Y Pilato, queriendo satisfacer al pueblo, les soltó a Barrabás y entregó a Jesús, después de azotarle, para que fuese crucificado.

16 And the soldiers led him away into the hall, called Prætorium; and they call together the whole band.

16 Entonces los soldados le llevaron dentro del atrio, a saber, al Pretorio, y convocaron a toda la tropa.

17 And they clothed him with purple, and plaited a crown of thorns, and put it about his head,

17 Y le vistieron de púrpura y, poniéndole una corona tejida de espinas,

18 And began to salute him, Hail, King of the Jews!

18 comenzaron a saludarle: ¡Salve, Rey de los judíos!

19 And they smote him on the head with a reed, and did spit upon him, and bowing their knees worshipped him.

19 Y le golpeaban la cabeza con una caña, y le escupían y, puestos de rodillas, le hacían reverencias.

20 And when they had mocked him, they took off the purple from him, and put his own clothes on him, and led him out to crucify him.

20 Y después de haberle escarnecido, le quitaron la púrpura, y le pusieron sus propios vestidos y le sacaron para crucificarle.

21 And they compel one Simon a Cyrenian, who passed by, coming out of the country, the father of Alexander and Rufus, to bear his cross.

21 Y obligaron a uno que pasaba, Simón de Cirene, padre de Alejandro y de Rufo, que venía del campo, a que le llevase la cruz.

22 And they bring him unto the place Golgotha, which is, being interpreted, The place of a skull.

22 Y le llevaron al lugar llamado Gólgota, que interpretado quiere decir: Lugar de la Calavera.

23 And they gave him to drink wine mingled with myrrh: but he received it not.

23 Y le dieron de beber vino mezclado con mirra, pero él no lo tomó.

24 And when they had crucified him, they parted his garments, casting lots upon them, what every man should take.

24 Y cuando le hubieron crucificado, repartieron sus vestidos, echando suertes sobre ellos para ver qué se llevaría cada uno.

25 And it was the third hour, and they crucified him.

25 Y era la hora tercera cuando le crucificaron.

26 And the superscription of his accusation was written over, THE KING OF THE JEWS.

26 Y el título escrito de su acusación era: EL REY DE LOS JUDÍOS.

27 And with him they crucify two thieves; the one on his right hand, and the other on his left.

27 Crucificaron también con él a dos ladrones, uno a su derecha y el otro a su izquierda.

28 And the scripture was fulfilled, which saith, And he was numbered with the transgressors.

28 Así se cumplió la Escritura que dice: Y con los inicuos fue contado.

29 And they that passed by railed on him, wagging their heads, and saying, Ah, thou that destroyest the temple, and buildest it in three days,

29 Y los que pasaban le insultaban, meneando la cabeza y diciendo: ¡Ah!, tú que derribas el templo de Dios y en tres días lo reedificas,

30 Save thyself, and come down from the cross.

30 sálvate a ti mismo y desciende de la cruz.

31 Likewise also the chief priests mocking said among themselves with the scribes, He saved others; himself he cannot save.

31 Y de esta manera también los principales sacerdotes, burlándose, se decían unos a otros, con los escribas: A otros salvó, pero a sí mismo no puede salvarse.

32 Let Christ the King of Israel descend now from the cross, that we may see and believe. And they that were crucified with him reviled him.

32 ¡El Cristo, Rey de Israel, descienda ahora de la cruz, para que veamos y creamos! También los que estaban crucificados con él le insultaban.

33 And when the sixth hour was come, there was darkness over the whole land until the ninth hour.

33 Y cuando vino la hora sexta, hubo tinieblas sobre toda la tierra hasta la hora novena.

34 And at the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani? which is, being interpreted, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?

34 Y a la hora novena, exclamó Jesús a gran voz, diciendo: ¡Eloi, Eloi!, ¿lama sabactani?, que interpretado quiere decir: ¡Dios mío, Dios mío!, ¿por qué me has desamparado?

35 And some of them that stood by, when they heard it, said, Behold, he calleth Elias.

35 Y al oírle algunos de los que estaban allí, decían: He aquí, llama a Elías.

36 And one ran and filled a sponge full of vinegar, and put it on a reed, and gave him to drink, saying, Let alone; let us see whether Elias will come to take him down.

36 Y corrió uno y, empapando una esponja en vinagre, la puso en una caña y le dio a beber, diciendo: Dejad, veamos si viene Elías a bajarle.

37 And Jesus cried with a loud voice, and gave up the ghost.

37 Pero Jesús, dando una gran voz, expiró.

38 And the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom.

38 Entonces el velo del templo se rasgó en dos, de arriba abajo.

39 And when the centurion, which stood over against him, saw that he so cried out, and gave up the ghost, he said, Truly this man was the Son of God.

39 Y el centurión que estaba delante de él, al ver que, después de clamar así, había expirado, dijo: ¡Verdaderamente este hombre era el Hijo de Dios!

40 There were also women looking on afar off: among whom was Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James the less and of Joses, and Salome;

40 Y también había algunas mujeres mirando de lejos, entre las cuales estaban María Magdalena, y María, la madre de Jacobo, el menor, y de José y Salomé;

41 (Who also, when he was in Galilee, followed him, and ministered unto him;) and many other women which came up with him unto Jerusalem.

41 quienes, estando aún él en Galilea, le habían seguido y servido; y otras muchas que juntamente con él habían subido a Jerusalén.

42 And now when the even was come, because it was the preparation, that is, the day before the sabbath,

42 Y al atardecer, porque era la preparación, es decir, la víspera del sábado,

43 Joseph of Arimathæa, an honourable counsellor, which also waited for the kingdom of God, came, and went in boldly unto Pilate, and craved the body of Jesus.

43 José de Arimatea, miembro noble del concilio, que también esperaba el reino de Dios, vino y entró osadamente a donde estaba Pilato, y pidió el cuerpo de Jesús.

44 And Pilate marvelled if he were already dead: and calling unto him the centurion, he asked him whether he had been any while dead.

44 Y Pilato se sorprendió de que ya hubiese muerto; y haciendo venir al centurión, le preguntó si ya estaba muerto.

45 And when he knew it of the centurion, he gave the body to Joseph.

45 E informado por el centurión, dio el cuerpo a José.

46 And he bought fine linen, and took him down, and wrapped him in the linen, and laid him in a sepulchre which was hewn out of a rock, and rolled a stone unto the door of the sepulchre.

46 Este compró una sábana y, bajándole, le envolvió en la sábana, y le puso en un sepulcro que estaba cavado en una peña e hizo rodar una piedra a la entrada del sepulcro.

47 And Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of Joses beheld where he was laid.

47 Y María Magdalena y María, madre de José, miraban dónde lo pusieron.
