1 And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Cæsar Augustus, that all the world should be taxed.

1 Y aconteció en aquellos días que salió un edicto de parte de Augusto César, que toda la tierra fuese empadronada.

2 (And this taxing was first made when Cyrenius was governor of Syria.)

2 Este primer empadronamiento se hizo siendo Cirenio gobernador de Siria.

3 And all went to be taxed, every one into his own city.

3 E iban todos para ser empadronados, cada uno a su ciudad.

4 And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judæa, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem; (because he was of the house and lineage of David:)

4 Entonces subió José de Galilea, de la ciudad de Nazaret, a Judea, a la ciudad de David, que se llama Belén, por cuanto era de la casa y familia de David,

5 To be taxed with Mary his espoused wife, being great with child.

5 para ser empadronado con María, su mujer, desposada con él, la que estaba encinta.

6 And so it was, that, while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered.

6 Y aconteció que estando ellos allí, se cumplieron los días en que ella había de dar a luz.

7 And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.

7 Y dio a luz a su hijo primogénito, y lo envolvió en pañales y lo acostó en un pesebre, porque no había lugar para ellos en el mesón.

8 And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.

8 Y había pastores en la misma región, que velaban y guardaban las vigilias de la noche sobre sus rebaños.

9 And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid.

9 Y he aquí, se les presentó un ángel del Señor, y la gloria del Señor los rodeó de resplandor; y tuvieron gran temor.

10 And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.

10 Pero el ángel les dijo: No temáis, porque he aquí os doy nuevas de gran gozo, que serán para todo el pueblo:

11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.

11 que os ha nacido hoy, en la ciudad de David, un Salvador, que es CRISTO el Señor.

12 And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.

12 Y esto os servirá de señal: Hallaréis al niño envuelto en pañales, acostado en un pesebre.

13 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying,

13 Y repentinamente apareció con el ángel una multitud de las huestes celestiales, que alababan a Dios y decían:

14 Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.

14 ¡Gloria a Dios en las alturas, y en la tierra paz, buena voluntad para con los hombres!

15 And it came to pass, as the angels were gone away from them into heaven, the shepherds said one to another, Let us now go even unto Bethlehem, and see this thing which is come to pass, which the Lord hath made known unto us.

15 Y aconteció que cuando los ángeles se fueron de ellos al cielo, los pastores se dijeron los unos a los otros: Pasemos, pues, hasta Belén, y veamos esto que ha sucedido y que el Señor nos ha manifestado.

16 And they came with haste, and found Mary, and Joseph, and the babe lying in a manger.

16 Y vinieron deprisa y hallaron a María, y a José, y al niño acostado en el pesebre.

17 And when they had seen it, they made known abroad the saying which was told them concerning this child.

17 Y al verlo, dieron a conocer lo que se les había dicho acerca del niño.

18 And all they that heard it wondered at those things which were told them by the shepherds.

18 Y todos los que oyeron se maravillaron de lo que los pastores les decían.

19 But Mary kept all these things, and pondered them in her heart.

19 Pero María guardaba todas estas cosas, meditándolas en su corazón.

20 And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, as it was told unto them.

20 Y los pastores se volvieron, glorificando y alabando a Dios por todas las cosas que habían oído y visto, como se les había dicho.

21 And when eight days were accomplished for the circumcising of the child, his name was called JESUS, which was so named of the angel before he was conceived in the womb.

21 Y cumplidos los ocho días para circuncidar al niño, llamaron su nombre JESÚS, el cual le había sido puesto por el ángel antes que él fuese concebido en el vientre.

22 And when the days of her purification according to the law of Moses were accomplished, they brought him to Jerusalem, to present him to the Lord;

22 Y cuando se cumplieron los días de la purificación de ella, conforme a la ley de Moisés, le trajeron a Jerusalén para presentarlo al Señor

23 (As it is written in the law of the Lord, Every male that openeth the womb shall be called holy to the Lord;)

23 (como está escrito en la ley del Señor: Todo varón que abra la matriz será llamado santo para el Señor),

24 And to offer a sacrifice according to that which is said in the law of the Lord, A pair of turtledoves, or two young pigeons.

24 y para dar la ofrenda conforme a lo que está dicho en la ley del Señor: un par de tórtolas o dos pichones.

25 And, behold, there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon; and the same man was just and devout, waiting for the consolation of Israel: and the Holy Ghost was upon him.

25 Y he aquí, había un hombre en Jerusalén llamado Simeón, y este hombre, justo y piadoso, esperaba la consolación de Israel; y el Espíritu Santo estaba sobre él.

26 And it was revealed unto him by the Holy Ghost, that he should not see death, before he had seen the Lord's Christ.

26 Y había recibido revelación del Espíritu Santo que no vería la muerte antes que viese al Cristo del Señor.

27 And he came by the Spirit into the temple: and when the parents brought in the child Jesus, to do for him after the custom of the law,

27 Y movido por el Espíritu, vino al templo. Y cuando los padres llevaron al niño Jesús al templo, para hacer por él conforme a la costumbre de la ley,

28 Then took he him up in his arms, and blessed God, and said,

28 entonces él lo tomó en sus brazos, y bendijo a Dios y dijo:

29 Lord, now lettest thou thy servant depart in peace, according to thy word:

29 Ahora, Señor, despides a tu siervo en paz, conforme a tu palabra,

30 For mine eyes have seen thy salvation,

30 porque han visto mis ojos tu salvación,

31 Which thou hast prepared before the face of all people;

31 la cual has preparado en presencia de todos los pueblos;

32 A light to lighten the Gentiles, and the glory of thy people Israel.

32 luz para revelación a los gentiles y gloria de tu pueblo Israel.

33 And Joseph and his mother marvelled at those things which were spoken of him.

33 Y José y su madre estaban maravillados de las cosas que se decían de él.

34 And Simeon blessed them, and said unto Mary his mother, Behold, this child is set for the fall and rising again of many in Israel; and for a sign which shall be spoken against;

34 Y los bendijo Simeón y dijo a su madre María: He aquí, este niño ha sido puesto para caída y para levantamiento de muchos en Israel, y para señal que será contradicha;

35 (Yea, a sword shall pierce through thy own soul also,) that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed.

35 y una espada traspasará tu alma misma, para que sean revelados los pensamientos de muchos corazones.

36 And there was one Anna, a prophetess, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Aser: she was of a great age, and had lived with an husband seven years from her virginity;

36 Estaba también allí Ana, profetisa, hija de Fanuel, de la tribu de Aser, de edad muy avanzada, y había vivido con su marido siete años desde su virginidad;

37 And she was a widow of about fourscore and four years, which departed not from the temple, but served God with fastings and prayers night and day.

37 y era viuda hacía ochenta y cuatro años, y no se apartaba del templo, sirviendo de noche y de día con ayunos y oraciones.

38 And she coming in that instant gave thanks likewise unto the Lord, and spake of him to all them that looked for redemption in Jerusalem.

38 Y esta, llegando en la misma hora, daba gracias al Señor y hablaba del niño a todos los que esperaban la redención en Jerusalén.

39 And when they had performed all things according to the law of the Lord, they returned into Galilee, to their own city Nazareth.

39 Después que hubieron cumplido con todas las cosas según la ley del Señor, se volvieron a Galilea, a su ciudad de Nazaret.

40 And the child grew, and waxed strong in spirit, filled with wisdom: and the grace of God was upon him.

40 Y el niño crecía, y se fortalecía y se llenaba de sabiduría; y la gracia de Dios estaba sobre él.

41 Now his parents went to Jerusalem every year at the feast of the passover.

41 E iban sus padres todos los años a Jerusalén en la fiesta de la Pascua.

42 And when he was twelve years old, they went up to Jerusalem after the custom of the feast.

42 Y cuando tuvo doce años, subieron ellos a Jerusalén conforme a la costumbre de la fiesta.

43 And when they had fulfilled the days, as they returned, the child Jesus tarried behind in Jerusalem; and Joseph and his mother knew not of it.

43 Y cumplidos los días, al volver ellos, se quedó el niño Jesús en Jerusalén, sin saberlo José y su madre.

44 But they, supposing him to have been in the company, went a day's journey; and they sought him among their kinsfolk and acquaintance.

44 Y pensando que estaba entre los del grupo, anduvieron camino de un día; y le buscaban entre los parientes y entre los conocidos;

45 And when they found him not, they turned back again to Jerusalem, seeking him.

45 pero como no le hallaron, volvieron a Jerusalén buscándole.

46 And it came to pass, that after three days they found him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the doctors, both hearing them, and asking them questions.

46 Y aconteció que tres días después le hallaron en el templo, sentado en medio de los doctores de la ley, oyéndolos y preguntándoles.

47 And all that heard him were astonished at his understanding and answers.

47 Y todos los que le oían se asombraban de su entendimiento y de sus respuestas.

48 And when they saw him, they were amazed: and his mother said unto him, Son, why hast thou thus dealt with us? behold, thy father and I have sought thee sorrowing.

48 Y cuando le vieron, se maravillaron; y su madre le dijo: Hijo, ¿por qué nos has hecho así? He aquí, tu padre y yo te hemos buscado con angustia.

49 And he said unto them, How is it that ye sought me? wist ye not that I must be about my Father's business?

49 Entonces él les dijo: ¿Por qué me buscabais? ¿No sabíais que en los asuntos de mi Padre me es necesario estar?

50 And they understood not the saying which he spake unto them.

50 Pero ellos no entendieron las palabras que les habló.

51 And he went down with them, and came to Nazareth, and was subject unto them: but his mother kept all these sayings in her heart.

51 Y descendió con ellos y vino a Nazaret, y estaba sujeto a ellos. Y su madre guardaba todas estas cosas en su corazón.

52 And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man.

52 Y Jesús crecía en sabiduría, y en estatura y en gracia para con Dios y los hombres.
