1 And it came to pass, as he went into the house of one of the chief Pharisees to eat bread on the sabbath day, that they watched him.

1 Y aconteció un día de reposo que, habiendo entrado en casa de un principal de los fariseos a comer pan, ellos le acechaban.

2 And, behold, there was a certain man before him which had the dropsy.

2 Y he aquí, un hombre hidrópico estaba delante de él.

3 And Jesus answering spake unto the lawyers and Pharisees, saying, Is it lawful to heal on the sabbath day?

3 Y respondiendo Jesús, habló a los intérpretes de la ley y a los fariseos, diciendo: ¿Es lícito sanar en el día de reposo?

4 And they held their peace. And he took him, and healed him, and let him go;

4 Pero ellos callaron. Entonces él, tomándole, le sanó y le despidió.

5 And answered them, saying, Which of you shall have an ass or an ox fallen into a pit, and will not straightway pull him out on the sabbath day?

5 Y respondiendo a ellos, dijo: ¿Quién de vosotros, si su asno o su buey cae en algún pozo, no lo saca inmediatamente aunque sea en día de reposo?

6 And they could not answer him again to these things.

6 Y no le podían replicar a estas cosas.

7 And he put forth a parable to those which were bidden, when he marked how they chose out the chief rooms; saying unto them,

7 Y observando cómo los convidados escogían los primeros asientos a la mesa, relató una parábola, diciéndoles:

8 When thou art bidden of any man to a wedding, sit not down in the highest room; lest a more honourable man than thou be bidden of him;

8 Cuando seas convidado por alguno a una boda, no te sientes en el primer lugar, no sea que otro más honorable que tú esté convidado por él,

9 And he that bade thee and him come and say to thee, Give this man place; and thou begin with shame to take the lowest room.

9 y viniendo el que os convidó a ti y a él, te diga: Da lugar a este; y entonces tengas, con vergüenza, que ocupar el último lugar.

10 But when thou art bidden, go and sit down in the lowest room; that when he that bade thee cometh, he may say unto thee, Friend, go up higher: then shalt thou have worship in the presence of them that sit at meat with thee.

10 Mas cuando seas convidado, ve y siéntate en el postrer lugar, para que cuando venga el que te convidó, te diga: Amigo, sube más arriba; entonces tendrás gloria delante de los que se sientan contigo a la mesa.

11 For whosoever exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.

11 Porque cualquiera que se ensalza será humillado; y el que se humilla será ensalzado.

12 Then said he also to him that bade him, When thou makest a dinner or a supper, call not thy friends, nor thy brethren, neither thy kinsmen, nor thy rich neighbours; lest they also bid thee again, and a recompence be made thee.

12 Y dijo también al que le había convidado: Cuando hagas comida o cena, no llames a tus amigos, ni a tus hermanos, ni a tus parientes ni a tus vecinos ricos, no sea que ellos, a su vez, te vuelvan a convidar, y seas recompensado.

13 But when thou makest a feast, call the poor, the maimed, the lame, the blind:

13 Mas cuando hagas banquete, llama a los pobres, a los mancos, a los cojos y a los ciegos;

14 And thou shalt be blessed; for they cannot recompense thee: for thou shalt be recompensed at the resurrection of the just.

14 y serás bienaventurado, porque ellos no te pueden retribuir; pero te será recompensado en la resurrección de los justos.

15 And when one of them that sat at meat with him heard these things, he said unto him, Blessed is he that shall eat bread in the kingdom of God.

15 Y oyendo esto uno de los que estaban sentados con él a la mesa, le dijo: ¡Bienaventurado el que coma pan en el reino de Dios!

16 Then said he unto him, A certain man made a great supper, and bade many:

16 Entonces Jesús le dijo: Un hombre hizo una gran cena y convidó a muchos.

17 And sent his servant at supper time to say to them that were bidden, Come; for all things are now ready.

17 Y a la hora de la cena envió a su siervo a decir a los convidados: Venid, que ya está todo preparado.

18 And they all with one consent began to make excuse. The first said unto him, I have bought a piece of ground, and I must needs go and see it: I pray thee have me excused.

18 Pero todos a una comenzaron a excusarse. El primero le dijo: He comprado una hacienda y necesito ir a verla; te ruego que me disculpes.

19 And another said, I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I go to prove them: I pray thee have me excused.

19 Y el otro dijo: He comprado cinco yuntas de bueyes y voy a probarlos; te ruego que me disculpes.

20 And another said, I have married a wife, and therefore I cannot come.

20 Y el otro dijo: Acabo de casarme y, por tanto, no puedo ir.

21 So that servant came, and shewed his lord these things. Then the master of the house being angry said to his servant, Go out quickly into the streets and lanes of the city, and bring in hither the poor, and the maimed, and the halt, and the blind.

21 Y volvió el siervo e hizo saber estas cosas a su señor. Entonces, enojado el padre de familia, dijo a su siervo: Ve pronto por las plazas y por las calles de la ciudad, y trae acá a los pobres, a los mancos, y a los cojos y a los ciegos.

22 And the servant said, Lord, it is done as thou hast commanded, and yet there is room.

22 Y dijo el siervo: Señor, se ha hecho como mandaste y aún hay lugar.

23 And the lord said unto the servant, Go out into the highways and hedges, and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled.

23 Y dijo el señor al siervo: Ve por los caminos y por los vallados, y oblígalos a entrar para que se llene mi casa.

24 For I say unto you, That none of those men which were bidden shall taste of my supper.

24 Pues os digo que ninguno de aquellos hombres que fueron convidados gustará mi cena.

25 And there went great multitudes with him: and he turned, and said unto them,

25 Y mucha gente iba con él; y volviéndose, él les dijo:

26 If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple.

26 Si alguno viene a mí y no aborrece a su padre, madre, esposa, hijos, hermanos, hermanas y aun también su propia vida, no puede ser mi discípulo.

27 And whosoever doth not bear his cross, and come after me, cannot be my disciple.

27 Y el que no lleva su cruz y viene en pos de mí no puede ser mi discípulo.

28 For which of you, intending to build a tower, sitteth not down first, and counteth the cost, whether he have sufficient to finish it?

28 Porque, ¿quién de vosotros, queriendo edificar una torre, no se sienta primero y calcula los gastos, para ver si tiene lo que necesita para acabarla?

29 Lest haply, after he hath laid the foundation, and is not able to finish it, all that behold it begin to mock him,

29 No sea que después que haya puesto el fundamento, y no pueda acabarla, todos los que lo vean comiencen a hacer burla de él,

30 Saying, This man began to build, and was not able to finish.

30 diciendo: Este hombre comenzó a edificar y no pudo acabar.

31 Or what king, going to make war against another king, sitteth not down first, and consulteth whether he be able with ten thousand to meet him that cometh against him with twenty thousand?

31 ¿O qué rey, habiendo de ir a hacer la guerra contra otro rey, no se sienta primero y considera si puede salir con diez mil al encuentro del que viene contra él con veinte mil?

32 Or else, while the other is yet a great way off, he sendeth an ambassage, and desireth conditions of peace.

32 De otra manera, cuando aún el otro está lejos, le envía una embajada y le pide condiciones de paz.

33 So likewise, whosoever he be of you that forsaketh not all that he hath, he cannot be my disciple.

33 Así, pues, cualquiera de vosotros que no renuncie a todas las cosas que posee no puede ser mi discípulo.

34 Salt is good: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be seasoned?

34 Buena es la sal; pero si la sal pierde su sabor, ¿con qué se sazonará?

35 It is neither fit for the land, nor yet for the dunghill; but men cast it out. He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.

35 Ni para la tierra ni para el muladar es buena; la arrojan fuera. El que tiene oídos para oír, oiga.
