1 In the mean time, when there were gathered together an innumerable multitude of people, insomuch that they trode one upon another, he began to say unto his disciples first of all, Beware ye of the leaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy.

1 En esto, se había reunido una multitud innumerable, tantos que unos a otros se atropellaban. Jesús comenzó a decir primeramente a sus discípulos: Guardaos de la levadura de los fariseos, que es la hipocresía,

2 For there is nothing covered, that shall not be revealed; neither hid, that shall not be known.

2 porque nada hay encubierto que no haya de descubrirse; ni oculto, que no haya de saberse.

3 Therefore whatsoever ye have spoken in darkness shall be heard in the light; and that which ye have spoken in the ear in closets shall be proclaimed upon the housetops.

3 Por tanto, las cosas que habéis dicho en tinieblas, a la luz serán oídas; y lo que habéis hablado al oído en las cámaras será pregonado desde las azoteas.

4 And I say unto you my friends, Be not afraid of them that kill the body, and after that have no more that they can do.

4 Mas os digo, amigos míos: No temáis a los que matan el cuerpo, pero después nada más pueden hacer.

5 But I will forewarn you whom ye shall fear: Fear him, which after he hath killed hath power to cast into hell; yea, I say unto you, Fear him.

5 Mas os enseñaré a quién debéis temer: Temed a aquel que, después de haber quitado la vida, tiene poder para echar al infierno; sí, os digo: A este temed.

6 Are not five sparrows sold for two farthings, and not one of them is forgotten before God?

6 ¿No se venden cinco pajarillos por dos blancas? Pues ni uno de ellos está olvidado delante de Dios.

7 But even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not therefore: ye are of more value than many sparrows.

7 Y aun los cabellos de vuestra cabeza están todos contados. No temáis; de más valor sois vosotros que muchos pajarillos.

8 Also I say unto you, Whosoever shall confess me before men, him shall the Son of man also confess before the angels of God:

8 Y os digo que todo aquel que me confiese delante de los hombres, también el Hijo del Hombre le confesará delante de los ángeles de Dios;

9 But he that denieth me before men shall be denied before the angels of God.

9 pero el que me niegue delante de los hombres será negado delante de los ángeles de Dios.

10 And whosoever shall speak a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but unto him that blasphemeth against the Holy Ghost it shall not be forgiven.

10 Y a todo aquel que diga palabra contra el Hijo del Hombre, le será perdonado; pero al que blasfeme contra el Espíritu Santo, no le será perdonado.

11 And when they bring you unto the synagogues, and unto magistrates, and powers, take ye no thought how or what thing ye shall answer, or what ye shall say:

11 Y cuando os lleven a las sinagogas, y a los magistrados y a las autoridades, no os preocupéis por cómo o qué habréis de responder, o qué habréis de decir,

12 For the Holy Ghost shall teach you in the same hour what ye ought to say.

12 porque el Espíritu Santo os enseñará en la misma hora lo que debéis decir.

13 And one of the company said unto him, Master, speak to my brother, that he divide the inheritance with me.

13 Y le dijo uno de la multitud: Maestro, di a mi hermano que divida conmigo la herencia.

14 And he said unto him, Man, who made me a judge or a divider over you?

14 Mas él le dijo: Hombre, ¿quién me ha puesto como juez o partidor sobre vosotros?

15 And he said unto them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man's life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth.

15 Y les dijo: Mirad, y guardaos de toda avaricia, porque la vida del hombre no consiste en la abundancia de los bienes que posee.

16 And he spake a parable unto them, saying, The ground of a certain rich man brought forth plentifully:

16 Y les refirió una parábola, diciendo: Las tierras de un hombre rico habían producido mucho;

17 And he thought within himself, saying, What shall I do, because I have no room where to bestow my fruits?

17 y él pensaba dentro de sí, diciendo: ¿Qué haré, porque no tengo dónde guardar mis frutos?

18 And he said, This will I do: I will pull down my barns, and build greater; and there will I bestow all my fruits and my goods.

18 Y dijo: Esto haré: derribaré mis alfolíes y los edificaré mayores, y allí guardaré todos mis frutos y mis bienes;

19 And I will say to my soul, Soul, thou hast much goods laid up for many years; take thine ease, eat, drink, and be merry.

19 y diré a mi alma: Alma, muchos bienes tienes almacenados para muchos años; descansa, come, bebe, diviértete.

20 But God said unto him, Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee: then whose shall those things be, which thou hast provided?

20 Pero le dijo Dios: Necio, esta noche van a pedir tu alma; y lo que has guardado, ¿de quién será?

21 So is he that layeth up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.

21 Así es el que hace para sí tesoro y no es rico para con Dios.

22 And he said unto his disciples, Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat; neither for the body, what ye shall put on.

22 Y dijo a sus discípulos: Por tanto os digo: No os afanéis por vuestra vida, qué comeréis; ni por el cuerpo, qué vestiréis.

23 The life is more than meat, and the body is more than raiment.

23 La vida es más que la comida, y el cuerpo más que el vestido.

24 Consider the ravens: for they neither sow nor reap; which neither have storehouse nor barn; and God feedeth them: how much more are ye better than the fowls?

24 Considerad los cuervos, que no siembran ni siegan; que no tienen almacén ni alfolí, y Dios los alimenta. ¡Cuánto más valéis vosotros que las aves!

25 And which of you with taking thought can add to his stature one cubit?

25 ¿Y quién de vosotros podrá, con afanarse, añadir a su estatura un codo?

26 If ye then be not able to do that thing which is least, why take ye thought for the rest?

26 Pues si no podéis hacer ni aun lo que es menos, ¿por qué os preocupáis por lo demás?

27 Consider the lilies how they grow: they toil not, they spin not; and yet I say unto you, that Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.

27 Considerad los lirios, cómo crecen; no trabajan ni hilan; pero os digo que ni aun Salomón con toda su gloria se vistió como uno de ellos.

28 If then God so clothe the grass, which is to day in the field, and to morrow is cast into the oven; how much more will he clothe you, O ye of little faith?

28 Y si así viste Dios la hierba, que hoy está en el campo y mañana es echada al horno, ¿cuánto más a vosotros, hombres de poca fe?

29 And seek not ye what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink, neither be ye of doubtful mind.

29 Vosotros, pues, no os preocupéis por lo que habéis de comer, ni por lo que habéis de beber, ni estéis en ansiosa inquietud.

30 For all these things do the nations of the world seek after: and your Father knoweth that ye have need of these things.

30 Porque todas estas cosas busca la gente del mundo, pero vuestro Padre sabe que necesitáis estas cosas.

31 But rather seek ye the kingdom of God; and all these things shall be added unto you.

31 Mas buscad el reino de Dios, y todas estas cosas os serán añadidas.

32 Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom.

32 No temáis, pequeño rebaño, porque al Padre le ha complacido daros el reino.

33 Sell that ye have, and give alms; provide yourselves bags which wax not old, a treasure in the heavens that faileth not, where no thief approacheth, neither moth corrupteth.

33 Vended lo que poseéis y dad limosna; haceos bolsas que no se envejezcan, tesoro en los cielos que nunca se agote, donde ladrón no llega ni polilla corrompe.

34 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.

34 Porque donde está vuestro tesoro, allí también estará vuestro corazón.

35 Let your loins be girded about, and your lights burning;

35 Estén ceñidos vuestros lomos y encendidas vuestras lámparas;

36 And ye yourselves like unto men that wait for their lord, when he will return from the wedding; that when he cometh and knocketh, they may open unto him immediately.

36 y sed vosotros semejantes a hombres que esperan a que su señor vuelva de las bodas, para que, cuando venga y llame, enseguida le abran.

37 Blessed are those servants, whom the lord when he cometh shall find watching: verily I say unto you, that he shall gird himself, and make them to sit down to meat, and will come forth and serve them.

37 Bienaventurados aquellos siervos a quienes el Señor, cuando venga, halle velando; de cierto os digo que se ceñirá y hará que se sienten a la mesa, y les servirá.

38 And if he shall come in the second watch, or come in the third watch, and find them so, blessed are those servants.

38 Y aunque venga a la segunda vigilia, y aunque venga a la tercera vigilia, y los hallare así, bienaventurados son aquellos siervos.

39 And this know, that if the goodman of the house had known what hour the thief would come, he would have watched, and not have suffered his house to be broken through.

39 Pero sabed esto, que si supiese el padre de familia a qué hora habría de venir el ladrón, velaría ciertamente y no dejaría saquear su casa.

40 Be ye therefore ready also: for the Son of man cometh at an hour when ye think not.

40 Vosotros, pues, también, estad preparados, porque a la hora que no penséis vendrá el Hijo del Hombre.

41 Then Peter said unto him, Lord, speakest thou this parable unto us, or even to all?

41 Entonces Pedro le dijo: Señor, ¿dices esta parábola a nosotros, o también a todos?

42 And the Lord said, Who then is that faithful and wise steward, whom his lord shall make ruler over his household, to give them their portion of meat in due season?

42 Y dijo el Señor: ¿Quién es el mayordomo fiel y prudente a quien el señor pondrá sobre su casa para que a tiempo les dé su ración?

43 Blessed is that servant, whom his lord when he cometh shall find so doing.

43 Bienaventurado aquel siervo a quien, cuando su señor venga, le halle haciendo así.

44 Of a truth I say unto you, that he will make him ruler over all that he hath.

44 En verdad os digo que él le pondrá sobre todos sus bienes.

45 But and if that servant say in his heart, My lord delayeth his coming; and shall begin to beat the menservants and maidens, and to eat and drink, and to be drunken;

45 Pero si aquel siervo dice en su corazón: Mi señor tarda en venir, y comienza a golpear a los criados y a las criadas, y a comer y a beber y a embriagarse,

46 The lord of that servant will come in a day when he looketh not for him, and at an hour when he is not aware, and will cut him in sunder, and will appoint him his portion with the unbelievers.

46 vendrá el señor de aquel siervo el día en que no espera y a la hora en que no sabe, y le castigará y pondrá su parte con los incrédulos.

47 And that servant, which knew his lord's will, and prepared not himself, neither did according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes.

47 Porque aquel siervo que sabía la voluntad de su señor y no se preparó ni hizo conforme a su voluntad recibirá muchos azotes.

48 But he that knew not, and did commit things worthy of stripes, shall be beaten with few stripes. For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall be much required: and to whom men have committed much, of him they will ask the more.

48 Pero aquel que no la sabía, e hizo cosas dignas de azotes, será azotado poco, porque a todo aquel a quien se le haya dado mucho, mucho se demandará de él; y al que se le haya encomendado mucho, más se le pedirá.

49 I am come to send fire on the earth; and what will I, if it be already kindled?

49 He venido a traer fuego a la tierra; ¡y qué quiero, si ya está encendido!

50 But I have a baptism to be baptized with; and how am I straitened till it be accomplished!

50 Pero de un bautismo tengo que ser bautizado; y, ¡cómo me angustio hasta que se cumpla!

51 Suppose ye that I am come to give peace on earth? I tell you, Nay; but rather division:

51 ¿Pensáis que he venido a la tierra para dar paz? Os digo: no, sino disensión.

52 For from henceforth there shall be five in one house divided, three against two, and two against three.

52 Porque de aquí en adelante, cinco en una casa estarán divididos, tres contra dos, y dos contra tres.

53 The father shall be divided against the son, and the son against the father; the mother against the daughter, and the daughter against the mother; the mother in law against her daughter in law, and the daughter in law against her mother in law.

53 El padre estará dividido contra el hijo, y el hijo contra el padre; la madre contra la hija, y la hija contra la madre; la suegra contra su nuera, y la nuera contra su suegra.

54 And he said also to the people, When ye see a cloud rise out of the west, straightway ye say, There cometh a shower; and so it is.

54 Y decía también a la gente: Cuando veis una nube que sale del poniente, enseguida decís: Lluvia viene; y así sucede.

55 And when ye see the south wind blow, ye say, There will be heat; and it cometh to pass.

55 Y cuando sopla el viento del sur, decís: Hará calor; y lo hace.

56 Ye hypocrites, ye can discern the face of the sky and of the earth; but how is it that ye do not discern this time?

56 ¡Hipócritas! Sabéis distinguir el aspecto del cielo y de la tierra, ¿y cómo no distinguís este tiempo?

57 Yea, and why even of yourselves judge ye not what is right?

57 ¿Y por qué no juzgáis por vosotros mismos lo que es justo?

58 When thou goest with thine adversary to the magistrate, as thou art in the way, give diligence that thou mayest be delivered from him; lest he hale thee to the judge, and the judge deliver thee to the officer, and the officer cast thee into prison.

58 Pues cuando vayas al magistrado con tu adversario, procura arreglarte con él por el camino, no sea que te arrastre al juez, y el juez te entregue al alguacil, y el alguacil te meta en la cárcel.

59 I tell thee, thou shalt not depart thence, till thou hast paid the very last mite.

59 Te digo que no saldrás de allí hasta que hayas pagado la última blanca.
