1 James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, to the twelve tribes which are scattered abroad, greeting.

1 Santiago, siervo de Dios y del Señor Jesucristo, a las doce tribus que están esparcidas: Salud.

2 My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations;

2 Hermanos míos, tened por sumo gozo cuando os halléis en diversas pruebas,

3 Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience.

3 sabiendo que la prueba de vuestra fe produce paciencia.

4 But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.

4 Pero tenga la paciencia su obra perfecta, para que seáis perfectos y cabales, sin que os falte cosa alguna.

5 If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.

5 Y si alguno de vosotros tiene falta de sabiduría, pídala a Dios, quien da a todos abundantemente y sin reproche, y le será dada.

6 But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed.

6 Pero pida con fe, no dudando nada, porque el que duda es semejante a la ola del mar, que es movida por el viento y echada de una parte a otra.

7 For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord.

7 No piense, pues, ese hombre que recibirá cosa alguna del Señor.

8 A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.

8 El hombre de doble ánimo es inconstante en todos sus caminos.

9 Let the brother of low degree rejoice in that he is exalted:

9 El hermano que es de condición humilde, regocíjese en su exaltada posición;

10 But the rich, in that he is made low: because as the flower of the grass he shall pass away.

10 pero el que es rico, en su condición humilde, porque él pasará como la flor de la hierba.

11 For the sun is no sooner risen with a burning heat, but it withereth the grass, and the flower thereof falleth, and the grace of the fashion of it perisheth: so also shall the rich man fade away in his ways.

11 Porque cuando sale el sol con calor abrasador, la hierba se seca, y su flor se cae y perece su hermosa apariencia; así también se marchitará el rico en todos sus caminos.

12 Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him.

12 Bienaventurado el hombre que soporta la tentación, porque una vez que haya sido aprobado, recibirá la corona de vida, que Dios ha prometido a los que le aman.

13 Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man:

13 Cuando alguno es tentado, no diga que es tentado de parte de Dios, porque Dios no puede ser tentado por el mal, ni él tienta a nadie,

14 But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.

14 sino que cada uno es tentado, cuando de su propia concupiscencia es atraído y seducido.

15 Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.

15 Y la concupiscencia, después que ha concebido, da a luz el pecado; y el pecado, siendo consumado, da a luz la muerte.

16 Do not err, my beloved brethren.

16 Amados hermanos míos, no erréis.

17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.

17 Toda buena dádiva y todo don perfecto viene de lo alto, y desciende del Padre de las luces, en quien no hay cambio ni sombra de variación.

18 Of his own will begat he us with the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures.

18 Él, de su voluntad, nos hizo nacer por la palabra de verdad, para que fuésemos como las primicias de sus criaturas.

19 Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath:

19 Por esto, mis amados hermanos, todo hombre sea pronto para oír, tardo para hablar, tardo para airarse,

20 For the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God.

20 porque la ira del hombre no produce la justicia de Dios.

21 Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls.

21 Por lo cual, desechando toda inmundicia y exceso de malicia que tanto abunda, recibid con mansedumbre la palabra implantada, la cual puede salvar vuestras almas.

22 But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.

22 Pero sed hacedores de la palabra, y no tan solamente oidores, engañándoos a vosotros mismos.

23 For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass:

23 Porque si alguno es oidor de la palabra, y no hacedor de ella, este es semejante al hombre que considera en un espejo su rostro natural.

24 For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was.

24 Porque después de mirarse a sí mismo, se va, y enseguida se olvida de cómo era.

25 But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.

25 Pero el que mira atentamente en la perfecta ley, la de la libertad, y persevera en ella, no siendo oidor olvidadizo, sino hacedor de la obra, este será bienaventurado en lo que hace.

26 If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man's religion is vain.

26 Si alguno se cree religioso entre vosotros, y no refrena su lengua, sino que engaña su corazón, la religión del tal es vana.

27 Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.

27 La religión pura y sin mácula delante de Dios el Padre es esta: Visitar a los huérfanos y a las viudas en sus tribulaciones, y guardarse sin mancha del mundo.
