1 Then said the high priest, Are these things so?

1 El sumo sacerdote dijo entonces: ¿Es esto así?

2 And he said, Men, brethren, and fathers, hearken; The God of glory appeared unto our father Abraham, when he was in Mesopotamia, before he dwelt in Charran,

2 Y él dijo: Varones hermanos y padres, oíd: El Dios de la gloria se apareció a nuestro padre Abraham, estando en Mesopotamia, antes que morase en Harán,

3 And said unto him, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and come into the land which I shall shew thee.

3 y le dijo: Sal de tu tierra y de tu parentela, y ven a la tierra que yo te mostraré.

4 Then came he out of the land of the Chaldæans, and dwelt in Charran: and from thence, when his father was dead, he removed him into this land, wherein ye now dwell.

4 Entonces salió de la tierra de los caldeos y habitó en Harán; y de allí, muerto su padre, Dios le trajo a esta tierra, en la cual vosotros habitáis ahora.

5 And he gave him none inheritance in it, no, not so much as to set his foot on: yet he promised that he would give it to him for a possession, and to his seed after him, when as yet he had no child.

5 Y no le dio herencia en ella, ni aun para asentar un pie, pero le prometió que se la daría en posesión a él y a su descendencia después de él, aunque no tenía hijo todavía.

6 And God spake on this wise, That his seed should sojourn in a strange land; and that they should bring them into bondage, and entreat them evil four hundred years.

6 Y le habló Dios así: Que su descendencia sería extranjera en tierra ajena, y que los reducirían a servidumbre y los maltratarían durante cuatrocientos años.

7 And the nation to whom they shall be in bondage will I judge, said God: and after that shall they come forth, and serve me in this place.

7 Pero yo juzgaré, dijo Dios, a la nación de la cual serán siervos; y después de esto saldrán y me servirán en este lugar.

8 And he gave him the covenant of circumcision: and so Abraham begat Isaac, and circumcised him the eighth day; and Isaac begat Jacob; and Jacob begat the twelve patriarchs.

8 Y le dio el convenio de la circuncisión; y así Abraham engendró a Isaac y lo circuncidó al octavo día; e Isaac a Jacob, y Jacob a los doce patriarcas.

9 And the patriarchs, moved with envy, sold Joseph into Egypt: but God was with him,

9 Y los patriarcas, movidos por envidia, vendieron a José para Egipto; pero Dios estaba con él,

10 And delivered him out of all his afflictions, and gave him favour and wisdom in the sight of Pharaoh king of Egypt; and he made him governor over Egypt and all his house.

10 y le libró de todas sus tribulaciones, y le dio gracia y sabiduría delante de Faraón, rey de Egipto, que le puso como gobernador sobre Egipto y sobre toda su casa.

11 Now there came a dearth over all the land of Egypt and Chanaan, and great affliction: and our fathers found no sustenance.

11 Vino entonces hambre en toda la tierra de Egipto y de Canaán, y gran tribulación; y nuestros padres no hallaban alimentos.

12 But when Jacob heard that there was corn in Egypt, he sent out our fathers first.

12 Y cuando oyó Jacob que había trigo en Egipto, envió a nuestros padres la primera vez.

13 And at the second time Joseph was made known to his brethren; and Joseph's kindred was made known unto Pharaoh.

13 Y en la segunda, José se dio a conocer a sus hermanos, y fue manifestado a Faraón el linaje de José.

14 Then sent Joseph, and called his father Jacob to him, and all his kindred, threescore and fifteen souls.

14 Y enviando José, hizo venir a su padre Jacob y a toda su parentela, en número de setenta y cinco personas.

15 So Jacob went down into Egypt, and died, he, and our fathers,

15 Así descendió Jacob a Egipto, donde murieron él y nuestros padres,

16 And were carried over into Sychem, and laid in the sepulchre that Abraham bought for a sum of money of the sons of Emmor the father of Sychem.

16 quienes fueron trasladados a Siquem y puestos en el sepulcro que Abraham había comprado a precio de dinero a los hijos de Hamor en Siquem.

17 But when the time of the promise drew nigh, which God had sworn to Abraham, the people grew and multiplied in Egypt,

17 Pero como se acercaba el tiempo de la promesa, la cual Dios había jurado a Abraham, el pueblo creció y se multiplicó en Egipto,

18 Till another king arose, which knew not Joseph.

18 hasta que se levantó en Egipto otro rey que no conocía a José.

19 The same dealt subtilly with our kindred, and evil entreated our fathers, so that they cast out their young children, to the end they might not live.

19 Este rey, usando de astucia con nuestro pueblo, maltrató a nuestros padres, a fin de que expusiesen a peligro de muerte a sus niños para que no viviesen.

20 In which time Moses was born, and was exceeding fair, and nourished up in his father's house three months:

20 En aquel mismo tiempo nació Moisés, y fue agradable a Dios; y fue criado tres meses en casa de su padre.

21 And when he was cast out, Pharaoh's daughter took him up, and nourished him for her own son.

21 Y habiendo sido abandonado, la hija de Faraón lo recogió y lo crio como a hijo suyo.

22 And Moses was learned in all the wisdom of the Egyptians, and was mighty in words and in deeds.

22 Y fue instruido Moisés en toda la sabiduría de los egipcios, y era poderoso en sus palabras y hechos.

23 And when he was full forty years old, it came into his heart to visit his brethren the children of Israel.

23 Y cuando hubo cumplido la edad de cuarenta años, le vino al corazón el deseo de visitar a sus hermanos, los hijos de Israel.

24 And seeing one of them suffer wrong, he defended him, and avenged him that was oppressed, and smote the Egyptian:

24 Y cuando vio a uno que era maltratado, lo defendió, e hiriendo al egipcio, vengó al injuriado.

25 For he supposed his brethren would have understood how that God by his hand would deliver them: but they understood not.

25 Él pensaba que sus hermanos entendían que Dios les había de dar libertad por su mano, pero ellos no lo habían entendido así.

26 And the next day he shewed himself unto them as they strove, and would have set them at one again, saying, Sirs, ye are brethren; why do ye wrong one to another?

26 Y al día siguiente, riñendo unos de ellos, se les presentó e intentó ponerlos en paz, diciendo: Varones, hermanos sois, ¿por qué os maltratáis el uno al otro?

27 But he that did his neighbour wrong thrust him away, saying, Who made thee a ruler and a judge over us?

27 Entonces el que maltrataba a su prójimo le empujó, diciendo: ¿Quién te ha puesto por gobernante y juez sobre nosotros?

28 Wilt thou kill me, as thou diddest the Egyptian yesterday?

28 ¿Quieres tú matarme como mataste ayer al egipcio?

29 Then fled Moses at this saying, and was a stranger in the land of Madian, where he begat two sons.

29 Al oír estas palabras, Moisés huyó y vivió como extranjero en la tierra de Madián, donde engendró dos hijos.

30 And when forty years were expired, there appeared to him in the wilderness of mount Sina an angel of the Lord in a flame of fire in a bush.

30 Y pasados cuarenta años, un ángel se le apareció en el desierto del monte Sinaí, en la llama de una zarza que ardía.

31 When Moses saw it, he wondered at the sight: and as he drew near to behold it, the voice of the Lord came unto him,

31 Entonces Moisés, mirando, se maravilló de la visión; y al acercarse para mirar, vino a él la voz del Señor:

32 Saying, I am the God of thy fathers, the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. Then Moses trembled, and durst not behold.

32 Yo soy el Dios de tus padres, el Dios de Abraham, y el Dios de Isaac y el Dios de Jacob. Mas Moisés, temblando, no osaba mirar.

33 Then said the Lord to him, Put off thy shoes from thy feet: for the place where thou standest is holy ground.

33 Y le dijo el Señor: Quita el calzado de tus pies, porque el lugar en que estás es tierra santa.

34 I have seen, I have seen the affliction of my people which is in Egypt, and I have heard their groaning, and am come down to deliver them. And now come, I will send thee into Egypt.

34 Ciertamente he visto la aflicción de mi pueblo que está en Egipto, y he oído el gemido de ellos y he descendido para librarlos. Ahora, pues, ven, te enviaré a Egipto.

35 This Moses whom they refused, saying, Who made thee a ruler and a judge? the same did God send to be a ruler and a deliverer by the hand of the angel which appeared to him in the bush.

35 A este Moisés, a quien habían rechazado, diciendo: ¿Quién te ha puesto por gobernante y juez?, a este envió Dios como gobernante y libertador por mano del ángel que se le apareció en la zarza.

36 He brought them out, after that he had shewed wonders and signs in the land of Egypt, and in the Red sea, and in the wilderness forty years.

36 Este los sacó, habiendo hecho prodigios y milagros en la tierra de Egipto, y en el mar Rojo, y en el desierto durante cuarenta años.

37 This is that Moses, which said unto the children of Israel, A prophet shall the Lord your God raise up unto you of your brethren, like unto me; him shall ye hear.

37 Este es el Moisés que dijo a los hijos de Israel: Profeta como yo os levantará el Señor vuestro Dios de entre vuestros hermanos; a él oiréis.

38 This is he, that was in the church in the wilderness with the angel which spake to him in the mount Sina, and with our fathers: who received the lively oracles to give unto us:

38 Este es aquel Moisés que estuvo en la congregación en el desierto con el ángel que le hablaba en el monte Sinaí, y con nuestros padres, y que recibió palabras de vida para darnos;

39 To whom our fathers would not obey, but thrust him from them, and in their hearts turned back again into Egypt,

39 a quien nuestros padres no quisieron obedecer, sino que le desecharon y volvieron su corazón a Egipto,

40 Saying unto Aaron, Make us gods to go before us: for as for this Moses, which brought us out of the land of Egypt, we wot not what is become of him.

40 diciendo a Aarón: Haznos dioses que vayan delante de nosotros, porque a este Moisés que nos sacó de la tierra de Egipto, no sabemos qué le habrá acontecido.

41 And they made a calf in those days, and offered sacrifice unto the idol, and rejoiced in the works of their own hands.

41 Y entonces hicieron un becerro, y ofrecieron sacrificio al ídolo y se regocijaron en las obras de sus manos.

42 Then God turned, and gave them up to worship the host of heaven; as it is written in the book of the prophets, O ye house of Israel, have ye offered to me slain beasts and sacrifices by the space of forty years in the wilderness?

42 Y Dios se apartó de ellos y los entregó para que sirviesen al ejército del cielo; como está escrito en el libro de los profetas: ¿Acaso me ofrecisteis víctimas y sacrificios en el desierto durante cuarenta años, oh casa de Israel?

43 Yea, ye took up the tabernacle of Moloch, and the star of your god Remphan, figures which ye made to worship them: and I will carry you away beyond Babylon.

43 Antes bien, llevasteis el tabernáculo de Moloc y la estrella de vuestro dios Renfán, figuras que os hicisteis para adorarlas. Os haré llevar, pues, más allá de Babilonia.

44 Our fathers had the tabernacle of witness in the wilderness, as he had appointed, speaking unto Moses, that he should make it according to the fashion that he had seen.

44 Tuvieron nuestros padres el tabernáculo del testimonio en el desierto, como había ordenado Dios cuando dijo a Moisés que lo hiciese según el modelo que había visto.

45 Which also our fathers that came after brought in with Jesus into the possession of the Gentiles, whom God drave out before the face of our fathers, unto the days of David;

45 El cual, habiéndolo recibido, introdujeron también nuestros padres con Josué al tomar posesión de la tierra de los gentiles, a quienes Dios expulsó de la presencia de nuestros padres hasta los días de David,

46 Who found favour before God, and desired to find a tabernacle for the God of Jacob.

46 quien halló gracia delante de Dios y pidió hallar tabernáculo para el Dios de Jacob.

47 But Solomon built him an house.

47 Pero Salomón le edificó casa.

48 Howbeit the most High dwelleth not in temples made with hands; as saith the prophet,

48 Si bien el Altísimo no habita en templos hechos por mano, como dice el profeta:

49 Heaven is my throne, and earth is my footstool: what house will ye build me? saith the Lord: or what is the place of my rest?

49 El cielo es mi trono, y la tierra es el estrado de mis pies. ¿Qué casa me edificaréis?, dice el Señor; ¿o cuál es el lugar de mi reposo?

50 Hath not my hand made all these things?

50 ¿No hizo mi mano todas estas cosas?

51 Ye stiffnecked and uncircumcised in heart and ears, ye do always resist the Holy Ghost: as your fathers did, so do ye.

51 ¡Duros de cerviz, e incircuncisos de corazón y de oídos! Vosotros resistís siempre al Espíritu Santo; como vuestros padres, así también vosotros.

52 Which of the prophets have not your fathers persecuted? and they have slain them which shewed before of the coming of the Just One; of whom ye have been now the betrayers and murderers:

52 ¿A cuál de los profetas no persiguieron vuestros padres? Y mataron a los que anunciaron de antemano la venida del Justo, de quien ahora vosotros habéis sido entregadores y asesinos;

53 Who have received the law by the disposition of angels, and have not kept it.

53 vosotros que recibisteis la ley por disposición de ángeles y no la guardasteis.

54 When they heard these things, they were cut to the heart, and they gnashed on him with their teeth.

54 Y oyendo estas cosas, se enfurecían sus corazones y crujían los dientes contra él.

55 But he, being full of the Holy Ghost, looked up steadfastly into heaven, and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing on the right hand of God,

55 Pero Esteban, estando lleno del Espíritu Santo, puestos los ojos en el cielo, vio la gloria de Dios, y a Jesús que estaba a la diestra de Dios,

56 And said, Behold, I see the heavens opened, and the Son of man standing on the right hand of God.

56 y dijo: ¡He aquí, veo los cielos abiertos y al Hijo del Hombre que está a la diestra de Dios!

57 Then they cried out with a loud voice, and stopped their ears, and ran upon him with one accord,

57 Entonces ellos, dando grandes voces, se taparon los oídos y arremetieron a una contra él;

58 And cast him out of the city, and stoned him: and the witnesses laid down their clothes at a young man's feet, whose name was Saul.

58 y echándolo fuera de la ciudad, le apedrearon. Y los testigos pusieron sus ropas a los pies de un joven que se llamaba Saulo.

59 And they stoned Stephen, calling upon God, and saying, Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.

59 Y mientras apedreaban a Esteban, él invocaba y decía: Señor Jesús, recibe mi espíritu.

60 And he kneeled down, and cried with a loud voice, Lord, lay not this sin to their charge. And when he had said this, he fell asleep.

60 Y puesto de rodillas, clamó a gran voz: Señor, no les tengas en cuenta este pecado. Y habiendo dicho esto, durmió.
