1 Now when Festus was come into the province, after three days he ascended from Cæsarea to Jerusalem.

1 Festo, pues, tres días después de haber llegado a la provincia, subió de Cesarea a Jerusalén.

2 Then the high priest and the chief of the Jews informed him against Paul, and besought him,

2 Y los principales sacerdotes y los principales de los judíos se presentaron ante él contra Pablo; y le rogaron,

3 And desired favour against him, that he would send for him to Jerusalem, laying wait in the way to kill him.

3 pidiendo contra él, como gracia, que le hiciese traer a Jerusalén, preparando ellos una celada para matarle en el camino.

4 But Festus answered, that Paul should be kept at Cæsarea, and that he himself would depart shortly thither.

4 Pero Festo respondió que Pablo estaba custodiado en Cesarea, adonde él mismo partiría en breve.

5 Let them therefore, said he, which among you are able, go down with me, and accuse this man, if there be any wickedness in him.

5 Los que de vosotros puedan, dijo, desciendan conmigo, y si hay algún delito en este varón, acúsenle.

6 And when he had tarried among them more than ten days, he went down unto Cæsarea; and the next day sitting on the judgment seat commanded Paul to be brought.

6 Y deteniéndose entre ellos no más de ocho o diez días, venido a Cesarea, al siguiente día se sentó en el tribunal y mandó que Pablo fuese traído.

7 And when he was come, the Jews which came down from Jerusalem stood round about, and laid many and grievous complaints against Paul, which they could not prove.

7 Al llegar este, le rodearon los judíos que habían venido de Jerusalén, presentando contra Pablo muchas y graves acusaciones, las cuales no podían probar;

8 While he answered for himself, Neither against the law of the Jews, neither against the temple, nor yet against Cæsar, have I offended any thing at all.

8 Pablo se defendía, diciendo: Ni contra la ley de los judíos, ni contra el templo ni contra César he pecado en nada.

9 But Festus, willing to do the Jews a pleasure, answered Paul, and said, Wilt thou go up to Jerusalem, and there be judged of these things before me?

9 Pero Festo, queriendo congraciarse con los judíos, respondiendo a Pablo, dijo: ¿Quieres subir a Jerusalén y allá ser juzgado acerca de estas cosas delante de mí?

10 Then said Paul, I stand at Cæsar's judgment seat, where I ought to be judged: to the Jews have I done no wrong, as thou very well knowest.

10 Y Pablo dijo: Ante el tribunal de César estoy, donde debo ser juzgado. A los judíos no les he hecho injuria alguna, como tú sabes muy bien.

11 For if I be an offender, or have committed any thing worthy of death, I refuse not to die: but if there be none of these things whereof these accuse me, no man may deliver me unto them. I appeal unto Cæsar.

11 Porque si alguna injuria o cosa alguna digna de muerte he hecho, no rehúso morir; pero si nada hay de las cosas de que estos me acusan, nadie puede entregarme a ellos. A César apelo.

12 Then Festus, when he had conferred with the council, answered, Hast thou appealed unto Cæsar? unto Cæsar shalt thou go.

12 Entonces Festo, habiendo hablado con el consejo, respondió: A César has apelado; a César irás.

13 And after certain days king Agrippa and Bernice came unto Cæsarea to salute Festus.

13 Y pasados algunos días, el rey Agripa y Berenice vinieron a Cesarea para saludar a Festo.

14 And when they had been there many days, Festus declared Paul's cause unto the king, saying, There is a certain man left in bonds by Felix:

14 Y como estuvieron allí muchos días, Festo expuso al rey la causa de Pablo, diciendo: Un hombre ha sido dejado preso por Félix,

15 About whom, when I was at Jerusalem, the chief priests and the elders of the Jews informed me, desiring to have judgment against him.

15 sobre el cual, cuando fui a Jerusalén, vinieron a mí los principales sacerdotes y los ancianos de los judíos, pidiendo condenación contra él.

16 To whom I answered, It is not the manner of the Romans to deliver any man to die, before that he which is accused have the accusers face to face, and have licence to answer for himself concerning the crime laid against him.

16 A estos respondí: No es costumbre de los romanos entregar alguno a la muerte antes que el acusado tenga delante a sus acusadores, y pueda defenderse de la acusación.

17 Therefore, when they were come hither, without any delay on the morrow I sat on the judgment seat, and commanded the man to be brought forth.

17 Así que, habiendo venido ellos juntos acá, sin ninguna dilación, al día siguiente, sentado en el tribunal, mandé traer al hombre;

18 Against whom when the accusers stood up, they brought none accusation of such things as I supposed:

18 y estando presentes los acusadores, ningún cargo expusieron de los que yo sospechaba,

19 But had certain questions against him of their own superstition, and of one Jesus, which was dead, whom Paul affirmed to be alive.

19 sino que tenían contra él ciertas cuestiones acerca de su religión y de un cierto Jesús, ya muerto, de quien Pablo afirmaba que estaba vivo.

20 And because I doubted of such manner of questions, I asked him whether he would go to Jerusalem, and there be judged of these matters.

20 Y yo, dudando en cuestión semejante, le pregunté si quería ir a Jerusalén y allá ser juzgado acerca de estas cosas.

21 But when Paul had appealed to be reserved unto the hearing of Augustus, I commanded him to be kept till I might send him to Cæsar.

21 Pero como Pablo apeló para ser custodiado a fin de ser juzgado por Augusto, mandé que le custodiase hasta que yo lo enviara a César.

22 Then Agrippa said unto Festus, I would also hear the man myself. To morrow, said he, thou shalt hear him.

22 Entonces Agripa dijo a Festo: Yo también quisiera oír a ese hombre. Y él le dijo: Mañana le oirás.

23 And on the morrow, when Agrippa was come, and Bernice, with great pomp, and was entered into the place of hearing, with the chief captains, and principal men of the city, at Festus' commandment Paul was brought forth.

23 Y al otro día, viniendo Agripa y Berenice con gran pompa, y entrando en la audiencia con los tribunos y principales hombres de la ciudad, por mandato de Festo, fue traído Pablo.

24 And Festus said, King Agrippa, and all men which are here present with us, ye see this man, about whom all the multitude of the Jews have dealt with me, both at Jerusalem, and also here, crying that he ought not to live any longer.

24 Entonces Festo dijo: Rey Agripa, y todos los varones que estáis aquí juntos con nosotros, aquí tenéis a este, por el que toda la multitud de los judíos me ha rogado en Jerusalén y aquí, dando voces que no debe vivir más;

25 But when I found that he had committed nothing worthy of death, and that he himself hath appealed to Augustus, I have determined to send him.

25 pero yo, hallando que ninguna cosa digna de muerte ha hecho, y como él mismo apeló a Augusto, he determinado enviarle.

26 Of whom I have no certain thing to write unto my lord. Wherefore I have brought him forth before you, and specially before thee, O king Agrippa, that, after examination had, I might have somewhat to write.

26 Puesto que no tengo cosa cierta que escribir a mi señor, le he traído ante vosotros, y mayormente ante ti, oh rey Agripa, para que después de interrogarle, tenga yo qué escribir.

27 For it seemeth to me unreasonable to send a prisoner, and not withal to signify the crimes laid against him.

27 Porque me parece fuera de razón enviar un preso, y no informar de los cargos que haya en su contra.
