1 And it came to pass, that, while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul having passed through the upper coasts came to Ephesus: and finding certain disciples,

1 Y aconteció que mientras Apolos estaba en Corinto, Pablo, después de recorrer las regiones superiores, vino a Éfeso, y hallando a ciertos discípulos,

2 He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost.

2 les dijo: ¿Habéis recibido el Espíritu Santo después que creísteis? Y ellos le dijeron: Ni siquiera hemos oído si hay Espíritu Santo.

3 And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto John's baptism.

3 Entonces dijo: ¿En qué, pues, fuisteis bautizados? Y ellos dijeron: En el bautismo de Juan.

4 Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.

4 Y dijo Pablo: Juan bautizó con bautismo de arrepentimiento, diciendo al pueblo que creyesen en el que había de venir después de él, a saber, en Jesús el Cristo.

5 When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.

5 Cuando oyeron esto, fueron bautizados en el nombre del Señor Jesús.

6 And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied.

6 Y habiéndoles impuesto Pablo las manos, vino sobre ellos el Espíritu Santo; y hablaban en lenguas y profetizaban.

7 And all the men were about twelve.

7 Y eran todos como unos doce hombres.

8 And he went into the synagogue, and spake boldly for the space of three months, disputing and persuading the things concerning the kingdom of God.

8 Y entrando Pablo en la sinagoga, habló osadamente por espacio de tres meses, discutiendo y persuadiendo en cuanto al reino de Dios.

9 But when divers were hardened, and believed not, but spake evil of that way before the multitude, he departed from them, and separated the disciples, disputing daily in the school of one Tyrannus.

9 Pero endureciéndose algunos, y no creyendo y maldiciendo el Camino delante de la multitud, Pablo se separó de ellos y llevó a los discípulos aparte, y discutía cada día en la escuela de uno llamado Tirano.

10 And this continued by the space of two years; so that all they which dwelt in Asia heard the word of the Lord Jesus, both Jews and Greeks.

10 Y esto continuó por espacio de dos años; de manera que todos los que habitaban en Asia, judíos y griegos, oyeron la palabra del Señor Jesús.

11 And God wrought special miracles by the hands of Paul:

11 Y hacía Dios milagros extraordinarios por mano de Pablo,

12 So that from his body were brought unto the sick handkerchiefs or aprons, and the diseases departed from them, and the evil spirits went out of them.

12 de tal manera que aun les llevaban a los enfermos los delantales y los pañuelos que habían tocado el cuerpo de Pablo, y las enfermedades se iban de ellos, y los malos espíritus también salían.

13 Then certain of the vagabond Jews, exorcists, took upon them to call over them which had evil spirits the name of the Lord Jesus, saying, We adjure you by Jesus whom Paul preacheth.

13 Pero algunos de los judíos, que andaban expulsando demonios, intentaron invocar el nombre del Señor Jesús sobre los que tenían malos espíritus, diciendo: Os ordeno por Jesús, el que Pablo predica.

14 And there were seven sons of one Sceva, a Jew, and chief of the priests, which did so.

14 Y había siete hijos de un tal Esceva, judío, principal de los sacerdotes, que hacían esto.

15 And the evil spirit answered and said, Jesus I know, and Paul I know; but who are ye?

15 Y respondiendo el espíritu malo, dijo: A Jesús conozco y sé quién es Pablo; pero vosotros, ¿quiénes sois?

16 And the man in whom the evil spirit was leaped on them, and overcame them, and prevailed against them, so that they fled out of that house naked and wounded.

16 Y el hombre en quien estaba el espíritu malo, saltando sobre ellos y dominándolos, pudo más que ellos, de tal manera que huyeron de aquella casa desnudos y heridos.

17 And this was known to all the Jews and Greeks also dwelling at Ephesus; and fear fell on them all, and the name of the Lord Jesus was magnified.

17 Y esto fue notorio a todos los que habitaban en Éfeso, tanto judíos como griegos; y cayó temor sobre todos ellos, y era magnificado el nombre del Señor Jesús.

18 And many that believed came, and confessed, and shewed their deeds.

18 Y muchos de los que habían creído venían, confesando y dando cuenta de sus hechos.

19 Many of them also which used curious arts brought their books together, and burned them before all men: and they counted the price of them, and found it fifty thousand pieces of silver.

19 Asimismo, muchos de los que habían practicado la hechicería trajeron los libros y los quemaron delante de todos; y sacada la cuenta del precio de ellos, hallaron que era cincuenta mil denarios.

20 So mightily grew the word of God and prevailed.

20 Así crecía y prevalecía poderosamente la palabra del Señor.

21 After these things were ended, Paul purposed in the spirit, when he had passed through Macedonia and Achaia, to go to Jerusalem, saying, After I have been there, I must also see Rome.

21 Y pasadas estas cosas, Pablo se propuso en el espíritu ir a Jerusalén, después de recorrer Macedonia y Acaya, diciendo: Después que haya estado allá, me será menester ver también Roma.

22 So he sent into Macedonia two of them that ministered unto him, Timotheus and Erastus; but he himself stayed in Asia for a season.

22 Y enviando a Macedonia a dos de los que le ayudaban, Timoteo y Erasto, él se quedó por algún tiempo en Asia.

23 And the same time there arose no small stir about that way.

23 Hubo por aquel tiempo un alboroto no pequeño acerca del Camino,

24 For a certain man named Demetrius, a silversmith, which made silver shrines for Diana, brought no small gain unto the craftsmen;

24 porque un platero llamado Demetrio, que hacía de plata templecillos de Diana, daba a los artífices no poca ganancia;

25 Whom he called together with the workmen of like occupation, and said, Sirs, ye know that by this craft we have our wealth.

25 a los que, reunidos con los obreros del mismo oficio, dijo: Varones, sabéis que de este oficio obtenemos nuestra ganancia;

26 Moreover ye see and hear, that not alone at Ephesus, but almost throughout all Asia, this Paul hath persuaded and turned away much people, saying that they be no gods, which are made with hands:

26 pero veis y oís que este Pablo, no solamente en Éfeso, sino en casi toda Asia, ha apartado a mucha gente con persuasión, diciendo que no son dioses los que se hacen con las manos.

27 So that not only this our craft is in danger to be set at nought; but also that the temple of the great goddess Diana should be despised, and her magnificence should be destroyed, whom all Asia and the world worshippeth.

27 Y no solamente hay peligro de que este, nuestro negocio, venga a desacreditarse, sino también de que el templo de la gran diosa Diana sea estimado en nada y comience a ser destruida la grandeza de ella, a quien honra toda Asia y el mundo entero.

28 And when they heard these sayings, they were full of wrath, and cried out, saying, Great is Diana of the Ephesians.

28 Oídas estas cosas, se llenaron de ira y dieron gritos, diciendo: ¡Grande es Diana de los efesios!

29 And the whole city was filled with confusion: and having caught Gaius and Aristarchus, men of Macedonia, Paul's companions in travel, they rushed with one accord into the theatre.

29 Y la ciudad se llenó de confusión, y a una se lanzaron al teatro, arrastrando a Gayo y a Aristarco, macedonios, compañeros de Pablo.

30 And when Paul would have entered in unto the people, the disciples suffered him not.

30 Y queriendo Pablo salir ante el pueblo, los discípulos no le dejaron.

31 And certain of the chief of Asia, which were his friends, sent unto him, desiring him that he would not adventure himself into the theatre.

31 También algunas de las autoridades de Asia, que eran sus amigos, le enviaron recado, rogándole que no se presentase en el teatro.

32 Some therefore cried one thing, and some another: for the assembly was confused; and the more part knew not wherefore they were come together.

32 Y unos gritaban una cosa y otros, otra; porque la concurrencia estaba confusa, y la mayoría no sabía por qué se habían reunido.

33 And they drew Alexander out of the multitude, the Jews putting him forward. And Alexander beckoned with the hand, and would have made his defence unto the people.

33 Y sacaron de entre la multitud a Alejandro, empujándole los judíos. Entonces Alejandro, habiendo pedido silencio con la mano, quiso hablar en su defensa ante el pueblo.

34 But when they knew that he was a Jew, all with one voice about the space of two hours cried out, Great is Diana of the Ephesians.

34 Pero cuando se dieron cuenta de que era judío, todos a una voz gritaron casi por dos horas: ¡Grande es Diana de los efesios!

35 And when the townclerk had appeased the people, he said, Ye men of Ephesus, what man is there that knoweth not how that the city of the Ephesians is a worshipper of the great goddess Diana, and of the image which fell down from Jupiter?

35 Entonces el escribano, después de apaciguar a la gente, dijo: Varones efesios, ¿y quién hay de los hombres que no sepa que la ciudad de los efesios es guardiana del templo de la gran diosa Diana, y de la imagen descendida de Júpiter?

36 Seeing then that these things cannot be spoken against, ye ought to be quiet, and to do nothing rashly.

36 Puesto que esto no puede ser contradicho, es necesario que os apacigüéis y que nada hagáis precipitadamente,

37 For ye have brought hither these men, which are neither robbers of churches, nor yet blasphemers of your goddess.

37 pues habéis traído a estos hombres, sin ser sacrílegos ni blasfemadores de vuestra diosa.

38 Wherefore if Demetrius, and the craftsmen which are with him, have a matter against any man, the law is open, and there are deputies: let them implead one another.

38 Que si Demetrio y los artífices que están con él tienen queja con alguno, audiencias se conceden, y procónsules hay; acúsense los unos a los otros.

39 But if ye inquire any thing concerning other matters, it shall be determined in a lawful assembly.

39 Y si demandáis alguna otra cosa, en legítima asamblea se puede decidir.

40 For we are in danger to be called in question for this day's uproar, there being no cause whereby we may give an account of this concourse.

40 Porque peligro hay de que seamos acusados de sedición por lo sucedido hoy, no habiendo ninguna causa por la cual podamos dar razón de este tumulto.

41 And when he had thus spoken, he dismissed the assembly.

41 Y habiendo dicho esto, despidió la concurrencia.
