1 Now about that time Herod the king stretched forth his hands to vex certain of the church.

1 Y en aquel mismo tiempo el rey Herodes echó mano a algunos de la iglesia para maltratarlos.

2 And he killed James the brother of John with the sword.

2 Y mató a espada a Jacobo, hermano de Juan.

3 And because he saw it pleased the Jews, he proceeded further to take Peter also. (Then were the days of unleavened bread.)

3 Y viendo que esto había agradado a los judíos, procedió a prender también a Pedro. Eran entonces los días de los panes sin levadura.

4 And when he had apprehended him, he put him in prison, and delivered him to four quaternions of soldiers to keep him; intending after Easter to bring him forth to the people.

4 Y habiéndole tomado preso, le puso en la cárcel, entregándole a cuatro grupos de cuatro soldados cada uno, para que le vigilasen, queriendo mostrarle al pueblo después de la Pascua.

5 Peter therefore was kept in prison: but prayer was made without ceasing of the church unto God for him.

5 Así que Pedro estaba custodiado en la cárcel, pero la iglesia hacía sin cesar oración a Dios por él.

6 And when Herod would have brought him forth, the same night Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, bound with two chains: and the keepers before the door kept the prison.

6 Y cuando Herodes le iba a sacar, aquella misma noche estaba Pedro durmiendo entre dos soldados, sujeto con dos cadenas, y los guardias delante de la puerta custodiaban la cárcel.

7 And, behold, the angel of the Lord came upon him, and a light shined in the prison: and he smote Peter on the side, and raised him up, saying, Arise up quickly. And his chains fell off from his hands.

7 Y he aquí, se apareció un ángel del Señor, y una luz resplandeció en la cárcel; y tocando a Pedro en el costado, le despertó, diciendo: Levántate pronto. Y las cadenas se le cayeron de las manos.

8 And the angel said unto him, Gird thyself, and bind on thy sandals. And so he did. And he saith unto him, Cast thy garment about thee, and follow me.

8 Y le dijo el ángel: Cíñete y átate las sandalias. Y lo hizo así. Y le dijo: Envuélvete en tu manto y sígueme.

9 And he went out, and followed him; and wist not that it was true which was done by the angel; but thought he saw a vision.

9 Y saliendo, le seguía, sin saber si era verdad lo que hacía el ángel; más bien pensaba que veía una visión.

10 When they were past the first and the second ward, they came unto the iron gate that leadeth unto the city; which opened to them of his own accord: and they went out, and passed on through one street; and forthwith the angel departed from him.

10 Y habiendo pasado la primera y la segunda guardia, llegaron a la puerta de hierro que daba a la ciudad, la cual se les abrió por sí sola; y habiendo salido, pasaron una calle, y enseguida el ángel se apartó de él.

11 And when Peter was come to himself, he said, Now I know of a surety, that the Lord hath sent his angel, and hath delivered me out of the hand of Herod, and from all the expectation of the people of the Jews.

11 Entonces Pedro, volviendo en sí, dijo: Ahora entiendo verdaderamente que el Señor ha enviado su ángel y me ha librado de la mano de Herodes y de todo lo que el pueblo de los judíos esperaba.

12 And when he had considered the thing, he came to the house of Mary the mother of John, whose surname was Mark; where many were gathered together praying.

12 Y habiendo considerado esto, llegó a casa de María, la madre de Juan, el que tenía por sobrenombre Marcos, donde muchos estaban reunidos orando.

13 And as Peter knocked at the door of the gate, a damsel came to hearken, named Rhoda.

13 Y cuando Pedro llamó a la puerta del patio, salió a escuchar una muchacha llamada Rode,

14 And when she knew Peter's voice, she opened not the gate for gladness, but ran in, and told how Peter stood before the gate.

14 la que, cuando reconoció la voz de Pedro, de gozo no abrió la puerta, sino corriendo adentro, dio la nueva de que Pedro estaba a la puerta.

15 And they said unto her, Thou art mad. But she constantly affirmed that it was even so. Then said they, It is his angel.

15 Y ellos le dijeron: ¡Estás loca! Pero ella afirmaba que así era. Entonces ellos decían: ¡Es su ángel!

16 But Peter continued knocking: and when they had opened the door, and saw him, they were astonished.

16 Pero Pedro persistía en llamar; y cuando abrieron y le vieron, se quedaron atónitos.

17 But he, beckoning unto them with the hand to hold their peace, declared unto them how the Lord had brought him out of the prison. And he said, Go shew these things unto James, and to the brethren. And he departed, and went into another place.

17 Pero él, haciéndoles con la mano señal de que callasen, les contó cómo el Señor le había sacado de la cárcel. Y dijo: Haced saber esto a Jacobo y a los hermanos. Y salió y se fue a otro lugar.

18 Now as soon as it was day, there was no small stir among the soldiers, what was become of Peter.

18 Luego que fue de día, hubo no poco alboroto entre los soldados sobre qué había sido de Pedro.

19 And when Herod had sought for him, and found him not, he examined the keepers, and commanded that they should be put to death. And he went down from Judæa to Cæsarea, and there abode.

19 Y Herodes, habiéndole buscado sin hallarle, después de interrogar a los guardias, los mandó ejecutar. Después, descendiendo de Judea a Cesarea, se quedó allí.

20 And Herod was highly displeased with them of Tyre and Sidon: but they came with one accord to him, and, having made Blastus the king's chamberlain their friend, desired peace; because their country was nourished by the king's country.

20 Y Herodes estaba enojado con los de Tiro y los de Sidón; pero ellos, de común acuerdo, vinieron a él, y habiendo sobornado a Blasto, que era el camarero del rey, pidieron paz, porque las tierras de ellos eran abastecidas por las del rey.

21 And upon a set day Herod, arrayed in royal apparel, sat upon his throne, and made an oration unto them.

21 Y un día señalado, Herodes, vestido de ropa real, se sentó en el tribunal y los arengó.

22 And the people gave a shout, saying, It is the voice of a god, and not of a man.

22 Y el pueblo aclamaba: Voz de un dios, y no de hombre.

23 And immediately the angel of the Lord smote him, because he gave not God the glory: and he was eaten of worms, and gave up the ghost.

23 Y al instante un ángel del Señor le hirió, por cuanto no dio la gloria a Dios; y expiró comido de gusanos.

24 But the word of God grew and multiplied.

24 Y la palabra del Señor crecía y se multiplicaba.

25 And Barnabas and Saul returned from Jerusalem, when they had fulfilled their ministry, and took with them John, whose surname was Mark.

25 Y Bernabé y Saulo volvieron de Jerusalén, habiendo cumplido su servicio, llevando también consigo a Juan, el que tenía por sobrenombre Marcos.
