1 There was a certain man in Cæsarea called Cornelius, a centurion of the band called the Italian band,

1 Y había en Cesarea un varón llamado Cornelio, centurión de la compañía que se llamaba la Italiana,

2 A devout man, and one that feared God with all his house, which gave much alms to the people, and prayed to God alway.

2 devoto y temeroso de Dios con toda su casa, y que hacía muchas limosnas al pueblo y oraba a Dios siempre.

3 He saw in a vision evidently about the ninth hour of the day an angel of God coming in to him, and saying unto him, Cornelius.

3 Este vio claramente en visión, como a la hora novena del día, que un ángel de Dios venía a él y le decía: ¡Cornelio!

4 And when he looked on him, he was afraid, and said, What is it, Lord? And he said unto him, Thy prayers and thine alms are come up for a memorial before God.

4 Y él, mirándole fijamente y espantado, dijo: ¿Qué es, Señor? Y le dijo: Tus oraciones y tus limosnas han subido para memoria delante de Dios.

5 And now send men to Joppa, and call for one Simon, whose surname is Peter:

5 Envía, pues, ahora hombres a Jope y haz venir a Simón, el que tiene por sobrenombre Pedro.

6 He lodgeth with one Simon a tanner, whose house is by the sea side: he shall tell thee what thou oughtest to do.

6 Este se hospeda en casa de Simón, el curtidor, que tiene su casa junto al mar; él te dirá lo que debes hacer.

7 And when the angel which spake unto Cornelius was departed, he called two of his household servants, and a devout soldier of them that waited on him continually;

7 Después de que se fue el ángel que hablaba con Cornelio, este llamó a dos de sus criados y a un devoto soldado de los que le asistían,

8 And when he had declared all these things unto them, he sent them to Joppa.

8 a los que envió a Jope, después de habérselo contado todo.

9 On the morrow, as they went on their journey, and drew nigh unto the city, Peter went up upon the housetop to pray about the sixth hour:

9 Y al día siguiente, mientras ellos iban por el camino y se acercaban a la ciudad, Pedro subió a la azotea a orar, cerca de la hora sexta;

10 And he became very hungry, and would have eaten: but while they made ready, he fell into a trance,

10 y aconteció que le vino mucha hambre, y quiso comer; pero mientras le preparaban algo, le sobrevino un éxtasis.

11 And saw heaven opened, and a certain vessel descending unto him, as it had been a great sheet knit at the four corners, and let down to the earth:

11 Y vio el cielo abierto, y que descendía algo como un gran lienzo que, atado de los cuatro cabos, era bajado a la tierra,

12 Wherein were all manner of fourfooted beasts of the earth, and wild beasts, and creeping things, and fowls of the air.

12 en el cual había de todos los cuadrúpedos de la tierra, y reptiles y aves del cielo.

13 And there came a voice to him, Rise, Peter; kill, and eat.

13 Y le vino una voz: Levántate, Pedro, mata y come.

14 But Peter said, Not so, Lord; for I have never eaten any thing that is common or unclean.

14 Entonces Pedro dijo: Señor, no; porque ninguna cosa común o inmunda he comido jamás.

15 And the voice spake unto him again the second time, What God hath cleansed, that call not thou common.

15 Y volvió la voz a él la segunda vez: Lo que Dios ha limpiado, no lo llames tú común.

16 This was done thrice: and the vessel was received up again into heaven.

16 Y esto ocurrió tres veces; y el lienzo volvió a ser recogido en el cielo.

17 Now while Peter doubted in himself what this vision which he had seen should mean, behold, the men which were sent from Cornelius had made inquiry for Simon's house, and stood before the gate,

17 Y mientras Pedro dudaba dentro de sí, preguntándose qué sería la visión que había visto, he aquí, los hombres que habían sido enviados por Cornelio, habiendo preguntando por la casa de Simón, llegaron a la puerta.

18 And called, and asked whether Simon, which was surnamed Peter, were lodged there.

18 Y llamando, preguntaron si Simón, que tenía por sobrenombre Pedro, se hospedaba allí.

19 While Peter thought on the vision, the Spirit said unto him, Behold, three men seek thee.

19 Y mientras Pedro pensaba en la visión, le dijo el Espíritu: He aquí, tres hombres te buscan.

20 Arise therefore, and get thee down, and go with them, doubting nothing: for I have sent them.

20 Levántate, pues, y desciende y no dudes en ir con ellos, porque yo los he enviado.

21 Then Peter went down to the men which were sent unto him from Cornelius; and said, Behold, I am he whom ye seek: what is the cause wherefore ye are come?

21 Entonces Pedro, descendiendo a donde estaban los hombres que fueron enviados por Cornelio, dijo: Heme aquí, yo soy el que buscáis. ¿Cuál es la causa por la que habéis venido?

22 And they said, Cornelius the centurion, a just man, and one that feareth God, and of good report among all the nation of the Jews, was warned from God by an holy angel to send for thee into his house, and to hear words of thee.

22 Y ellos dijeron: Cornelio, el centurión, varón justo y temeroso de Dios, y que goza de buena fama entre toda la nación de los judíos, ha recibido aviso de un santo ángel de hacerte venir a su casa y oír tus palabras.

23 Then called he them in, and lodged them. And on the morrow Peter went away with them, and certain brethren from Joppa accompanied him.

23 Entonces, haciéndolos pasar, los hospedó. Y al día siguiente, levantándose, se fue con ellos; y le acompañaron algunos de los hermanos de Jope.

24 And the morrow after they entered into Cæsarea. And Cornelius waited for them, and had called together his kinsmen and near friends.

24 Y al otro día entraron en Cesarea. Y Cornelio los estaba esperando, habiendo llamado a sus parientes y a los amigos más íntimos.

25 And as Peter was coming in, Cornelius met him, and fell down at his feet, and worshipped him.

25 Y cuando Pedro entró, salió Cornelio a recibirle; y postrándose a sus pies, le adoró.

26 But Peter took him up, saying, Stand up; I myself also am a man.

26 Pero Pedro le levantó, diciendo: ¡Levántate! Yo mismo también soy hombre.

27 And as he talked with him, he went in, and found many that were come together.

27 Y hablando con él, entró y halló a muchos que se habían reunido.

28 And he said unto them, Ye know how that it is an unlawful thing for a man that is a Jew to keep company, or come unto one of another nation; but God hath shewed me that I should not call any man common or unclean.

28 Y les dijo: Vosotros sabéis que está prohibido para un varón judío juntarse con un extranjero o acercarse a él, pero Dios me ha mostrado que a ningún hombre llame común o inmundo;

29 Therefore came I unto you without gainsaying, as soon as I was sent for: I ask therefore for what intent ye have sent for me?

29 por lo cual, al ser llamado, he venido sin poner ninguna objeción. Así que pregunto: ¿Por qué causa me habéis hecho venir?

30 And Cornelius said, Four days ago I was fasting until this hour; and at the ninth hour I prayed in my house, and, behold, a man stood before me in bright clothing,

30 Entonces Cornelio dijo: Hace cuatro días que a esta hora yo estaba ayunando; y a la hora novena, mientras oraba en mi casa, he aquí, un varón con vestiduras resplandecientes se puso delante de mí.

31 And said, Cornelius, thy prayer is heard, and thine alms are had in remembrance in the sight of God.

31 Y dijo: Cornelio, tu oración ha sido oída, y tus limosnas han sido recordadas delante de Dios.

32 Send therefore to Joppa, and call hither Simon, whose surname is Peter; he is lodged in the house of one Simon a tanner by the sea side: who, when he cometh, shall speak unto thee.

32 Envía, pues, a Jope y haz venir a Simón, el que tiene por sobrenombre Pedro; este se hospeda en casa de Simón, el curtidor, junto al mar, quien, cuando venga, te hablará.

33 Immediately therefore I sent to thee; and thou hast well done that thou art come. Now therefore are we all here present before God, to hear all things that are commanded thee of God.

33 Así que, enseguida envié por ti; y tú has hecho bien en venir. Ahora, pues, todos nosotros estamos aquí en la presencia de Dios, para oír todo lo que Dios te ha mandado.

34 Then Peter opened his mouth, and said, Of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons:

34 Entonces Pedro, abriendo la boca, dijo: En verdad comprendo que Dios no hace acepción de personas,

35 But in every nation he that feareth him, and worketh righteousness, is accepted with him.

35 sino que en toda nación se agrada del que le teme y hace lo justo.

36 The word which God sent unto the children of Israel, preaching peace by Jesus Christ: (he is Lord of all:)

36 Dios envió la palabra a los hijos de Israel, anunciando el evangelio de la paz por medio de Jesucristo; este es el Señor de todos.

37 That word, I say, ye know, which was published throughout all Judæa, and began from Galilee, after the baptism which John preached;

37 Vosotros sabéis lo que se divulgó por toda Judea, comenzando desde Galilea, después del bautismo que predicó Juan,

38 How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.

38 en cuanto a Jesús de Nazaret: cómo le ungió Dios con el Espíritu Santo y con poder, y cómo anduvo haciendo bienes y sanando a todos los oprimidos por el diablo, porque Dios estaba con él.

39 And we are witnesses of all things which he did both in the land of the Jews, and in Jerusalem; whom they slew and hanged on a tree:

39 Y nosotros somos testigos de todas las cosas que Jesús hizo en la tierra de Judea y en Jerusalén, a quien mataron, colgándole en un madero.

40 Him God raised up the third day, and shewed him openly;

40 A este levantó Dios al tercer día e hizo que se apareciese,

41 Not to all the people, but unto witnesses chosen before of God, even to us, who did eat and drink with him after he rose from the dead.

41 no a todo el pueblo, sino a los testigos que Dios había escogido de antemano, a nosotros que comimos y bebimos con él después que resucitó de entre los muertos.

42 And he commanded us to preach unto the people, and to testify that it is he which was ordained of God to be the Judge of quick and dead.

42 Y nos mandó que predicásemos al pueblo y testificásemos que él es el que Dios ha puesto por Juez de los vivos y de los muertos.

43 To him give all the prophets witness, that through his name whosoever believeth in him shall receive remission of sins.

43 De él dan testimonio todos los profetas, de que todos los que crean en él recibirán perdón de pecados por su nombre.

44 While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word.

44 Mientras aún hablaba Pedro estas palabras, el Espíritu Santo cayó sobre todos los que oían el mensaje.

45 And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost.

45 Y los fieles de la circuncisión que habían venido con Pedro se quedaron atónitos de que también sobre los gentiles se derramase el don del Espíritu Santo,

46 For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God. Then answered Peter,

46 porque los oían que hablaban en lenguas y que magnificaban a Dios.

47 Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we?

47 Entonces respondió Pedro: ¿Acaso puede alguno impedir el agua, para que no sean bautizados estos que han recibido el Espíritu Santo también como nosotros?

48 And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord. Then prayed they him to tarry certain days.

48 Y les mandó que fueran bautizados en el nombre del Señor Jesús. Entonces le rogaron que se quedase por algunos días.
