1 The former treatise have I made, O Theophilus, of all that Jesus began both to do and teach,

1 En el primer tratado, oh Teófilo, he hablado de todas las cosas que Jesús comenzó a hacer y a enseñar,

2 Until the day in which he was taken up, after that he through the Holy Ghost had given commandments unto the apostles whom he had chosen:

2 hasta el día en que fue recibido arriba, después de haber dado mandamientos por el Espíritu Santo a los apóstoles que había escogido;

3 To whom also he shewed himself alive after his passion by many infallible proofs, being seen of them forty days, and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God:

3 a quienes también, después de haber padecido, se presentó vivo con muchas pruebas indubitables, apareciéndoseles durante cuarenta días y hablándoles del reino de Dios.

4 And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me.

4 Y estando juntos, les mandó que no se fuesen de Jerusalén, sino que esperasen la promesa del Padre, la cual, les dijo, oísteis de mí.

5 For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence.

5 Porque Juan a la verdad bautizó con agua, mas vosotros seréis bautizados con el Espíritu Santo dentro de no muchos días después de estos.

6 When they therefore were come together, they asked of him, saying, Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel?

6 Entonces los que se habían reunido le preguntaron, diciendo: Señor, ¿restituirás el reino a Israel en este tiempo?

7 And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power.

7 Y les dijo: No os toca a vosotros saber los tiempos ni las ocasiones que el Padre puso en su sola potestad;

8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judæa, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

8 pero recibiréis poder cuando el Espíritu Santo venga sobre vosotros, y me seréis testigos en Jerusalén, en toda Judea, y en Samaria y hasta lo último de la tierra.

9 And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight.

9 Y habiendo dicho estas cosas, viéndo lo ellos, fue alzado; y le recibió una nube que le ocultó de sus ojos.

10 And while they looked steadfastly toward heaven as he went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel;

10 Y estando ellos con los ojos puestos en el cielo, entretanto que él se iba, he aquí se pusieron junto a ellos dos varones vestidos de blanco,

11 Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.

11 los que también les dijeron: Varones galileos, ¿por qué estáis mirando al cielo? Este mismo Jesús, que ha sido llevado de entre vosotros arriba al cielo, así vendrá como le habéis visto ir al cielo.

12 Then returned they unto Jerusalem from the mount called Olivet, which is from Jerusalem a sabbath day's journey.

12 Entonces volvieron a Jerusalén desde el monte que se llama de los Olivos, el cual está cerca de Jerusalén, camino de un día de reposo.

13 And when they were come in, they went up into an upper room, where abode both Peter, and James, and John, and Andrew, Philip, and Thomas, Bartholomew, and Matthew, James the son of Alphæus, and Simon Zelotes, and Judas the brother of James.

13 Y cuando hubieron entrado, subieron al aposento alto, donde se alojaban Pedro y Jacobo, y Juan y Andrés, Felipe y Tomás, Bartolomé y Mateo, Jacobo hijo de Alfeo, y Simón el Zelote y Judas hermano de Jacobo.

14 These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication, with the women, and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brethren.

14 Todos estos perseveraban unánimes en oración y ruego, con las mujeres, y con María la madre de Jesús y con sus hermanos.

15 And in those days Peter stood up in the midst of the disciples, and said, (the number of names together were about an hundred and twenty,)

15 Y en aquellos días, Pedro se levantó en medio de los hermanos (y el grupo era como de ciento veinte en número) y dijo:

16 Men and brethren, this scripture must needs have been fulfilled, which the Holy Ghost by the mouth of David spake before concerning Judas, which was guide to them that took Jesus.

16 Varones hermanos, convino que se cumpliese la Escritura, que antes dijo el Espíritu Santo por boca de David, acerca de Judas, que fue guía de los que prendieron a Jesús,

17 For he was numbered with us, and had obtained part of this ministry.

17 el que era contado con nosotros y tenía parte en este ministerio.

18 Now this man purchased a field with the reward of iniquity; and falling headlong, he burst asunder in the midst, and all his bowels gushed out.

18 Este, pues, adquirió un campo con el salario de su iniquidad, y cayendo de cabeza, se reventó por la mitad, y todas sus entrañas se derramaron.

19 And it was known unto all the dwellers at Jerusalem; insomuch as that field is called in their proper tongue, Aceldama, that is to say, The field of blood.

19 Y fue notorio a todos los moradores de Jerusalén, de tal manera que aquel campo fue llamado en su propia lengua, Acéldama, que quiere decir, Campo de Sangre.

20 For it is written in the book of Psalms, Let his habitation be desolate, and let no man dwell therein: and his bishoprick let another take.

20 Porque está escrito en el libro de los salmos: Sea hecha desierta su habitación, y no haya quien more en ella; y: Tome otro su oficio.

21 Wherefore of these men which have companied with us all the time that the Lord Jesus went in and out among us,

21 Es menester, pues, que de estos hombres que han estado junto con nosotros todo el tiempo que el Señor Jesús entraba y salía entre nosotros,

22 Beginning from the baptism of John, unto that same day that he was taken up from us, must one be ordained to be a witness with us of his resurrection.

22 comenzando desde el bautismo de Juan hasta el día en que de entre nosotros fue recibido arriba, uno sea hecho testigo con nosotros de su resurrección.

23 And they appointed two, Joseph called Barsabas, who was surnamed Justus, and Matthias.

23 Y señalaron a dos: a José, llamado Barsabás, que tenía por sobrenombre Justo, y a Matías.

24 And they prayed, and said, Thou, Lord, which knowest the hearts of all men, shew whether of these two thou hast chosen,

24 Y orando, dijeron: Tú, Señor, que conoces los corazones de todos, muestra a cuál de estos dos has escogido,

25 That he may take part of this ministry and apostleship, from which Judas by transgression fell, that he might go to his own place.

25 para que tome el oficio de este ministerio y apostolado, del cual cayó Judas por transgresión, para irse a su propio lugar.

26 And they gave forth their lots; and the lot fell upon Matthias; and he was numbered with the eleven apostles.

26 Y echaron suertes, y la suerte cayó sobre Matías; y fue contado con los once apóstoles.
