1 The elder unto the wellbeloved Gaius, whom I love in the truth.

2 Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.

3 For I rejoiced greatly, when the brethren came and testified of the truth that is in thee, even as thou walkest in the truth.

3 Pues me regocijé mucho cuando vinieron los hermanos y dieron testimonio de la verdad que hay en ti, de cómo andas en la verdad.

4 I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth.

4 No tengo yo mayor gozo que este, el oír que mis hijos andan en la verdad.

5 Beloved, thou doest faithfully whatsoever thou doest to the brethren, and to strangers;

5 Amado, fielmente actúas en todo lo que haces para con los hermanos y para con los extranjeros,

6 Which have borne witness of thy charity before the church: whom if thou bring forward on their journey after a godly sort, thou shalt do well:

6 quienes han dado testimonio de tu amor en presencia de la iglesia; y harás bien en encaminarlos como es digno de Dios.

7 Because that for his name's sake they went forth, taking nothing of the Gentiles.

7 Porque ellos salieron por causa del nombre de él, sin aceptar nada de los gentiles.

8 We therefore ought to receive such, that we might be fellowhelpers to the truth.

8 Nosotros, pues, debemos acoger a tales personas, para que seamos colaboradores en la verdad.

9 I wrote unto the church: but Diotrephes, who loveth to have the preeminence among them, receiveth us not.

9 Yo he escrito a la iglesia; pero Diótrefes, que desea ser el primero entre ellos, no nos recibe.

10 Wherefore, if I come, I will remember his deeds which he doeth, prating against us with malicious words: and not content therewith, neither doth he himself receive the brethren, and forbiddeth them that would, and casteth them out of the church.

10 Por esta causa, si yo voy, recordaré las obras que hace, parloteando con palabras malignas contra nosotros; y no contento con estas cosas, no recibe a los hermanos, y a los que quieren recibirlos se lo prohíbe y los echa de la iglesia.

11 Beloved, follow not that which is evil, but that which is good. He that doeth good is of God: but he that doeth evil hath not seen God.

11 Amado, no imites lo malo, sino lo bueno. El que hace lo bueno es de Dios, pero el que hace lo malo no ha visto a Dios.

12 Demetrius hath good report of all men, and of the truth itself: yea, and we also bear record; and ye know that our record is true.

12 Todos dan buen testimonio de Demetrio, y aun la verdad misma; y también nosotros damos testimonio, y vosotros sabéis que nuestro testimonio es verdadero.

13 I had many things to write, but I will not with ink and pen write unto thee:

13 Yo tenía muchas cosas que escribirte, pero no quiero escribírte las con tinta y pluma,

14 But I trust I shall shortly see thee, and we shall speak face to face. Peace be to thee. Our friends salute thee. Greet the friends by name.

14 porque espero verte en breve, y hablaremos cara a cara.
