1 Thou therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus.

1 Así que tú, hijo mío, esfuérzate en la gracia que es en Cristo Jesús.

2 And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also.

2 Lo que has oído de mí ante muchos testigos, esto encarga a hombres fieles que sean idóneos para enseñar también a otros.

3 Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ.

3 Tú, pues, soporta las aflicciones como fiel soldado de Jesucristo.

4 No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier.

4 Ninguno que milita se enreda en los asuntos de la vida, a fin de agradar a aquel que lo tomó para ser soldado.

5 And if a man also strive for masteries, yet is he not crowned, except he strive lawfully.

5 Y el que compite no es coronado si no compite legítimamente.

6 The husbandman that laboureth must be first partaker of the fruits.

6 El labrador industrioso debe ser el primero en recibir de los frutos.

7 Consider what I say; and the Lord give thee understanding in all things.

7 Considera lo que digo, y el Señor te dé entendimiento en todo.

8 Remember that Jesus Christ of the seed of David was raised from the dead according to my gospel:

8 Acuérdate de Jesucristo, descendiente de David, resucitado de entre los muertos, conforme a mi evangelio,

9 Wherein I suffer trouble, as an evil doer, even unto bonds; but the word of God is not bound.

9 en el que sufro aflicciones, hasta prisiones a modo de malhechor; pero la palabra de Dios no está presa.

10 Therefore I endure all things for the elect's sakes, that they may also obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory.

10 Por tanto, todo lo soporto por amor a los escogidos, para que ellos también consigan la salvación que es en Cristo Jesús con gloria eterna.

11 It is a faithful saying: For if we be dead with him, we shall also live with him:

11 Palabra fiel es esta: Si hemos muerto con él, también viviremos con él;

12 If we suffer, we shall also reign with him: if we deny him, he also will deny us:

12 si perseveramos, también reinaremos con él; si le negamos, él también nos negará;

13 If we believe not, yet he abideth faithful: he cannot deny himself.

13 si somos infieles, él permanece fiel, porque no puede negarse a sí mismo.

14 Of these things put them in remembrance, charging them before the Lord that they strive not about words to no profit, but to the subverting of the hearers.

14 Recuérdales esto, exhortándolos delante del Señor a que no contiendan sobre palabras, lo cual para nada aprovecha, sino que destruye a los oyentes.

15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

15 Procura con diligencia presentarte ante Dios aprobado, como obrero que no tiene de qué avergonzarse, que expone bien la palabra de verdad.

16 But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness.

16 Mas evita profanas y vanas palabrerías, porque conducirán más y más a la impiedad.

17 And their word will eat as doth a canker: of whom is Hymenæus and Philetus;

17 Y la palabra de ellos carcomerá como gangrena; entre ellos se encuentran Himeneo y Fileto,

18 Who concerning the truth have erred, saying that the resurrection is past already; and overthrow the faith of some.

18 que se han desviado de la verdad, diciendo que la resurrección ya tuvo lugar, y trastornan la fe de algunos.

19 Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, Let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity.

19 Pero el fundamento de Dios está firme, teniendo este sello: El Señor conoce a los que son suyos; y: Apártese de iniquidad todo aquel que invoca el nombre de Cristo.

20 But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of earth; and some to honour, and some to dishonour.

20 Pero en una casa grande, no solamente hay utensilios de oro y de plata, sino también de madera y de barro; unos para uso honroso, y otros para uso deshonroso.

21 If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master's use, and prepared unto every good work.

21 Así que, si alguno se limpia de estas cosas, será instrumento para honra, santificado, y útil para el Señor, y preparado para toda buena obra.

22 Flee also youthful lusts: but follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace, with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart.

22 Huye también de las pasiones juveniles y sigue la justicia, la fe, el amor y la paz, con los que invocan al Señor con un corazón puro.

23 But foolish and unlearned questions avoid, knowing that they do gender strifes.

23 Pero desecha las cuestiones necias y sin sentido, sabiendo que engendran contiendas.

24 And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all men, apt to teach, patient,

24 Porque el siervo del Señor no debe ser contencioso, sino amable para con todos, apto para enseñar, sufrido;

25 In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth;

25 que con mansedumbre corrija a los que se oponen, por si quizá Dios les conceda que se arrepientan para conocer la verdad,

26 And that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will.

26 y se zafen del lazo del diablo, en que están cautivos a voluntad de él.
