1 Simon Peter, a servant and an apostle of Jesus Christ, to them that have obtained like precious faith with us through the righteousness of God and our Saviour Jesus Christ:

1 Simón Pedro, siervo y apóstol de Jesucristo, a los que habéis alcanzado una fe igualmente preciosa que la nuestra por la justicia de nuestro Dios y Salvador Jesucristo:

2 Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord,

2 Gracia y paz os sean multiplicadas mediante el conocimiento de Dios y de nuestro Señor Jesús.

3 According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue:

3 Como todas las cosas que pertenecen a la vida y a la piedad nos han sido dadas por su divino poder, por el conocimiento de aquel que nos ha llamado por medio de su gloria y virtud,

4 Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.

4 por conducto de las cuales nos ha dado preciosas y grandísimas promesas, para que por ellas lleguéis a ser participantes de la naturaleza divina, habiendo huido de la corrupción que hay en el mundo por la concupiscencia.

5 And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge;

5 Vosotros también, por esto mismo, poned toda diligencia en añadir a vuestra fe virtud; y a la virtud, conocimiento;

6 And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness;

6 y al conocimiento, templanza; y a la templanza, paciencia; y a la paciencia, piedad;

7 And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity.

7 y a la piedad, afecto fraternal; y al afecto fraternal, amor.

8 For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

8 Porque si en vosotros están estas cosas y abundan, no os dejarán estar ociosos ni sin fruto en cuanto al conocimiento de nuestro Señor Jesucristo.

9 But he that lacketh these things is blind, and cannot see afar off, and hath forgotten that he was purged from his old sins.

9 Pero el que no tiene estas cosas tiene la vista muy corta; está ciego, habiendo olvidado la purificación de sus antiguos pecados.

10 Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall:

10 Por lo cual, hermanos, tanto más procurad hacer firme vuestra vocación y elección, porque haciendo estas cosas, no caeréis jamás.

11 For so an entrance shall be ministered unto you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

11 Porque de esta manera os será concedida ampliamente la entrada en el reino eterno de nuestro Señor y Salvador Jesucristo.

12 Wherefore I will not be negligent to put you always in remembrance of these things, though ye know them, and be established in the present truth.

12 Por esto, yo no dejaré de recordaros siempre estas cosas, aunque vosotros las sepáis, y estéis confirmados en la verdad presente.

13 Yea, I think it meet, as long as I am in this tabernacle, to stir you up by putting you in remembrance;

13 Porque tengo por justo, en tanto que estoy en este tabernáculo, el instaros a recordar,

14 Knowing that shortly I must put off this my tabernacle, even as our Lord Jesus Christ hath shewed me.

14 sabiendo que dentro de poco tengo que dejar este, mi tabernáculo, como nuestro Señor Jesucristo me lo ha declarado.

15 Moreover I will endeavour that ye may be able after my decease to have these things always in remembrance.

15 También yo procuraré con diligencia que, después de mi fallecimiento, vosotros podáis siempre tener memoria de estas cosas.

16 For we have not followed cunningly devised fables, when we made known unto you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of his majesty.

16 Porque no os hemos dado a conocer el poder y la venida de nuestro Señor Jesucristo, siguiendo fábulas astutamente inventadas, sino que con nuestros propios ojos hemos visto su majestad.

17 For he received from God the Father honour and glory, when there came such a voice to him from the excellent glory, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.

17 Porque él recibió de Dios Padre honra y gloria, cuando una voz le fue enviada desde la magnífica gloria, diciendo: Este es mi Hijo Amado, en quien me complazco.

18 And this voice which came from heaven we heard, when we were with him in the holy mount.

18 Y nosotros oímos esta voz enviada del cielo, cuando estábamos con él en el monte santo.

19 We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts:

19 Tenemos también la palabra profética más segura, a la cual hacéis bien en estar atentos como a una antorcha que alumbra en lugar oscuro hasta que el día esclarezca, y la estrella de la mañana salga en vuestros corazones,

20 Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.

20 entendiendo primero esto: que ninguna profecía de la Escritura es de interpretación privada,

21 For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.

21 porque la profecía nunca fue dada por voluntad humana, sino que los santos hombres de Dios hablaron siendo inspirados por el Espíritu Santo.
