1 Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.

1 Así que, amados, ya que tenemos estas promesas, limpiémonos de toda inmundicia de carne y de espíritu, perfeccionando la santidad en el temor de Dios.

2 Receive us; we have wronged no man, we have corrupted no man, we have defrauded no man.

2 Admitidnos. A nadie hemos agraviado, a nadie hemos corrompido, a nadie hemos engañado.

3 I speak not this to condemn you: for I have said before, that ye are in our hearts to die and live with you.

3 No lo digo para condenar os; pues ya he dicho antes que estáis en nuestro corazón, para morir y para vivir juntamente.

4 Great is my boldness of speech toward you, great is my glorying of you: I am filled with comfort, I am exceeding joyful in all our tribulation.

4 Mucha franqueza tengo con vosotros; mucho me glorío en vosotros. Lleno estoy de consuelo; sobreabundo de gozo en todas nuestras tribulaciones.

5 For, when we were come into Macedonia, our flesh had no rest, but we were troubled on every side; without were fightings, within were fears.

5 Porque cuando vinimos a Macedonia, ningún reposo tuvo nuestro cuerpo, sino que en todo fuimos atribulados; de fuera, conflictos; de dentro, temores.

6 Nevertheless God, that comforteth those that are cast down, comforted us by the coming of Titus;

6 Pero Dios, que consuela a los humildes, nos consoló con la venida de Tito;

7 And not by his coming only, but by the consolation wherewith he was comforted in you, when he told us your earnest desire, your mourning, your fervent mind toward me; so that I rejoiced the more.

7 y no solo con su venida, sino también con el consuelo con que él había sido consolado acerca de vosotros, haciéndonos saber vuestro gran anhelo, vuestro llanto, vuestro celo por mí, de manera que me regocijé aún más.

8 For though I made you sorry with a letter, I do not repent, though I did repent: for I perceive that the same epistle hath made you sorry, though it were but for a season.

8 Porque aunque os contristé con aquella carta, no me pesa, aunque entonces me pesó, pues veo que aquella carta, aunque por algún tiempo, os contristó.

9 Now I rejoice, not that ye were made sorry, but that ye sorrowed to repentance: for ye were made sorry after a godly manner, that ye might receive damage by us in nothing.

9 Ahora me regocijo, no porque hayáis sido contristados, sino porque fuisteis contristados para arrepentimiento, porque habéis sido contristados según Dios, para que ninguna pérdida padecieseis por nuestra parte.

10 For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death.

10 Porque la tristeza que es según Dios produce arrepentimiento para salvación, de lo cual no hay que arrepentirse; pero la tristeza del mundo produce muerte.

11 For behold this selfsame thing, that ye sorrowed after a godly sort, what carefulness it wrought in you, yea, what clearing of yourselves, yea, what indignation, yea, what fear, yea, what vehement desire, yea, what zeal, yea, what revenge! In all things ye have approved yourselves to be clear in this matter.

11 Porque he aquí, esto mismo de que hayáis sido contristados según Dios, ¡qué solicitud ha producido en vosotros, qué defensa, qué indignación, qué temor, qué gran anhelo, qué celo y qué vindicación! En todo os habéis mostrado limpios en el asunto.

12 Wherefore, though I wrote unto you, I did it not for his cause that had done the wrong, nor for his cause that suffered wrong, but that our care for you in the sight of God might appear unto you.

12 Así que, aunque os escribí, no fue por causa del que cometió el agravio, ni por causa del que lo padeció, sino para que os fuese evidente nuestra solicitud que tenemos por vosotros delante de Dios.

13 Therefore we were comforted in your comfort: yea, and exceedingly the more joyed we for the joy of Titus, because his spirit was refreshed by you all.

13 Por tanto, hemos sido consolados en vuestro consuelo; pero mucho más nos gozamos por el gozo de Tito, cuyo espíritu ha sido confortado por todos vosotros.

14 For if I have boasted any thing to him of you, I am not ashamed; but as we spake all things to you in truth, even so our boasting, which I made before Titus, is found a truth.

14 Pues si de algo me he gloriado con él acerca de vosotros, no he sido avergonzado, sino que, así como todo lo que os habíamos dicho a vosotros era verdad, también el habernos gloriado ante Tito resultó verdad.

15 And his inward affection is more abundant toward you, whilst he remembereth the obedience of you all, how with fear and trembling ye received him.

15 Y sus tiernos afectos son más abundantes para con vosotros, cuando se acuerda de la obediencia de todos vosotros, de cómo lo recibisteis con temor y temblor.

16 I rejoice therefore that I have confidence in you in all things.

16 Me gozo de que en todo tengo confianza en vosotros.
