1 Now I Paul myself beseech you by the meekness and gentleness of Christ, who in presence am base among you, but being absent am bold toward you:

1 Yo, Pablo, os ruego por la mansedumbre y benignidad de Cristo, yo, que cuando estoy presente ciertamente soy humilde entre vosotros, pero que cuando estoy ausente soy osado para con vosotros,

2 But I beseech you, that I may not be bold when I am present with that confidence, wherewith I think to be bold against some, which think of us as if we walked according to the flesh.

2 os ruego, pues, que cuando esté presente, no tenga que ser osado con la osadía con que estoy dispuesto a proceder resueltamente contra algunos que nos juzgan como si anduviésemos según la carne.

3 For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh:

3 Pues aunque andamos en la carne, no luchamos según la carne;

4 (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;)

4 porque las armas de nuestra lucha no son carnales, sino poderosas en Dios para la destrucción de fortalezas,

5 Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;

5 destruyendo argumentos, y toda altivez que se levanta contra el conocimiento de Dios, y llevando cautivo todo pensamiento a la obediencia a Cristo;

6 And having in a readiness to revenge all disobedience, when your obedience is fulfilled.

6 y estando prontos a castigar toda desobediencia, cuando vuestra obediencia sea completa.

7 Do ye look on things after the outward appearance? If any man trust to himself that he is Christ's, let him of himself think this again, that, as he is Christ's, even so are we Christ's.

7 Miráis las cosas según la apariencia. Si alguno está confiado en sí mismo que es de Cristo, esto también considere por sí mismo, que como él es de Cristo, así también nosotros somos de Cristo.

8 For though I should boast somewhat more of our authority, which the Lord hath given us for edification, and not for your destruction, I should not be ashamed:

8 Porque aunque me gloríe un poco más de nuestra autoridad (la cual el Señor nos dio para edificación y no para vuestra destrucción), no me avergonzaré;

9 That I may not seem as if I would terrify you by letters.

9 para que no parezca como que os quiero atemorizar por cartas.

10 For his letters, say they, are weighty and powerful; but his bodily presence is weak, and his speech contemptible.

10 Porque a la verdad, dicen, las cartas son severas y fuertes; pero la presencia corporal, débil, y la palabra, menospreciable.

11 Let such an one think this, that, such as we are in word by letters when we are absent, such will we be also in deed when we are present.

11 Esto tenga en cuenta tal persona, que así como somos en la palabra por cartas, estando ausentes, lo seremos también en hechos, estando presentes.

12 For we dare not make ourselves of the number, or compare ourselves with some that commend themselves: but they measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves among themselves, are not wise.

12 Porque no osamos contarnos ni compararnos con algunos que se alaban a sí mismos; pero ellos, midiéndose a sí mismos y comparándose consigo mismos, no son juiciosos.

13 But we will not boast of things without our measure, but according to the measure of the rule which God hath distributed to us, a measure to reach even unto you.

13 Pero nosotros no nos gloriaremos desmedidamente, sino conforme a la medida de la norma que Dios nos señaló, para llegar también hasta vosotros.

14 For we stretch not ourselves beyond our measure, as though we reached not unto you: for we are come as far as to you also in preaching the gospel of Christ:

14 Porque no nos hemos excedido, como si no hubiésemos llegado hasta vosotros, pues también hasta vosotros hemos llegado con el evangelio de Cristo.

15 Not boasting of things without our measure, that is, of other men's labours; but having hope, when your faith is increased, that we shall be enlarged by you according to our rule abundantly,

15 No nos gloriamos desmedidamente en trabajos ajenos, sino que tenemos esperanza de que a medida que crezca vuestra fe, seremos muy engrandecidos entre vosotros, conforme a nuestra norma.

16 To preach the gospel in the regions beyond you, and not to boast in another man's line of things made ready to our hand.

16 Así anunciaremos el evangelio en los lugares más allá de vosotros, sin entrar en la obra de otro para gloriarnos en lo que ya estaba preparado.

17 But he that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord.

17 Así el que se gloría, gloríese en el Señor,

18 For not he that commendeth himself is approved, but whom the Lord commendeth.

18 porque no es aprobado el que se alaba a sí mismo, sino aquel a quien Dios alaba.
