1 Follow after charity, and desire spiritual gifts, but rather that ye may prophesy.

1 Seguid la caridad y procurad los dones espirituales, pero sobre todo, que profeticéis.

2 For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries.

2 Porque el que habla en lenguas no habla a los hombres, sino a Dios, pues nadie le entiende, porque por el espíritu habla misterios.

3 But he that prophesieth speaketh unto men to edification, and exhortation, and comfort.

3 Pero el que profetiza habla a los hombres para edificación, y exhortación y consolación.

4 He that speaketh in an unknown tongue edifieth himself; but he that prophesieth edifieth the church.

4 El que habla en lengua extraña, a sí mismo se edifica; pero el que profetiza, edifica a la iglesia.

5 I would that ye all spake with tongues, but rather that ye prophesied: for greater is he that prophesieth than he that speaketh with tongues, except he interpret, that the church may receive edifying.

5 Así que, quisiera que todos vosotros hablaseis en lenguas, pero más que profetizaseis; porque mayor es el que profetiza que el que habla en lenguas, a no ser que las interprete, para que la iglesia reciba edificación.

6 Now, brethren, if I come unto you speaking with tongues, what shall I profit you, except I shall speak to you either by revelation, or by knowledge, or by prophesying, or by doctrine?

6 Ahora pues, hermanos, si yo voy a vosotros hablando lenguas, ¿qué os aprovechará, si no os hablo con revelación, o con conocimiento, o con profecía o con doctrina?

7 And even things without life giving sound, whether pipe or harp, except they give a distinction in the sounds, how shall it be known what is piped or harped?

7 Ciertamente, las cosas inanimadas que producen sonidos, como la flauta o el arpa, si no dan con distinción los sonidos, ¿cómo se sabrá lo que se toca con la flauta o con la cítara?

8 For if the trumpet give an uncertain sound, who shall prepare himself to the battle?

8 Y si la trompeta da sonido incierto, ¿quién se preparará para la batalla?

9 So likewise ye, except ye utter by the tongue words easy to be understood, how shall it be known what is spoken? for ye shall speak into the air.

9 Así también vosotros, si por la lengua no dais palabra bien comprensible, ¿cómo se entenderá lo que decís?, porque hablaréis al aire.

10 There are, it may be, so many kinds of voices in the world, and none of them is without signification.

10 Tantas clases de idiomas hay quizá en el mundo, y ninguno carece de significado;

11 Therefore if I know not the meaning of the voice, I shall be unto him that speaketh a barbarian, and he that speaketh shall be a barbarian unto me.

11 pero si yo no entiendo el significado de las palabras, seré como extranjero para el que habla, y el que habla será como extranjero para mí.

12 Even so ye, forasmuch as ye are zealous of spiritual gifts, seek that ye may excel to the edifying of the church.

12 Así también vosotros, puesto que anheláis dones espirituales, procurad que abunden en vosotros para la edificación de la iglesia.

13 Wherefore let him that speaketh in an unknown tongue pray that he may interpret.

13 Por lo cual, el que habla en lenguas, ore para poder interpretar las.

14 For if I pray in an unknown tongue, my spirit prayeth, but my understanding is unfruitful.

14 Porque si yo oro en lenguas, mi espíritu ora; pero mi entendimiento es sin fruto.

15 What is it then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will pray with the understanding also: I will sing with the spirit, and I will sing with the understanding also.

15 ¿Qué, pues? Oraré con el espíritu, pero oraré también con el entendimiento; cantaré con el espíritu, pero cantaré también con el entendimiento.

16 Else when thou shalt bless with the spirit, how shall he that occupieth the room of the unlearned say Amen at thy giving of thanks, seeing he understandeth not what thou sayest?

16 Porque si bendices con el espíritu, el que ocupa el lugar de un simple oyente, ¿cómo dirá Amén a tu acción de gracias?, pues no sabe lo que has dicho.

17 For thou verily givest thanks well, but the other is not edified.

17 Porque tú, a la verdad, bien das gracias, pero el otro no es edificado.

18 I thank my God, I speak with tongues more than ye all:

18 Doy gracias a Dios que hablo en lenguas más que todos vosotros;

19 Yet in the church I had rather speak five words with my understanding, that by my voice I might teach others also, than ten thousand words in an unknown tongue.

19 pero en la iglesia prefiero hablar cinco palabras con mi entendimiento, para enseñar también a los otros, que diez mil palabras en lenguas.

20 Brethren, be not children in understanding: howbeit in malice be ye children, but in understanding be men.

20 Hermanos, no seáis niños en el modo de pensar, sino sed niños en la malicia, pero maduros en el modo de pensar.

21 In the law it is written, With men of other tongues and other lips will I speak unto this people; and yet for all that will they not hear me, saith the Lord.

21 En la ley está escrito: En otras lenguas y con otros labios hablaré a este pueblo; y ni aun así me oirán, dice el Señor.

22 Wherefore tongues are for a sign, not to them that believe, but to them that believe not: but prophesying serveth not for them that believe not, but for them which believe.

22 Así que, las lenguas son por señal, no a los creyentes, sino a los incrédulos; pero la profecía, no a los incrédulos, sino a los creyentes.

23 If therefore the whole church be come together into one place, and all speak with tongues, and there come in those that are unlearned, or unbelievers, will they not say that ye are mad?

23 De manera que, si toda la iglesia se reúne en un solo lugar, y todos hablan en lenguas, y entran indoctos o incrédulos, ¿no dirán que estáis locos?

24 But if all prophesy, and there come in one that believeth not, or one unlearned, he is convinced of all, he is judged of all:

24 Pero si todos profetizan, y entra algún incrédulo o indocto, por todos es convencido, por todos es juzgado;

25 And thus are the secrets of his heart made manifest; and so falling down on his face he will worship God, and report that God is in you of a truth.

25 lo oculto de su corazón se hace manifiesto; y así, postrándose sobre el rostro, adorará a Dios, declarando que verdaderamente Dios está entre vosotros.

26 How is it then, brethren? when ye come together, every one of you hath a psalm, hath a doctrine, hath a tongue, hath a revelation, hath an interpretation. Let all things be done unto edifying.

26 ¿Qué hay, pues, hermanos? Cuando os reunís, cada uno de vosotros tiene salmo, tiene doctrina, tiene lengua, tiene revelación, tiene interpretación; hágase todo para edificación.

27 If any man speak in an unknown tongue, let it be by two, or at the most by three, and that by course; and let one interpret.

27 Si alguno habla en lenguas, que hablen dos, o a lo más tres, y por turno; y que uno interprete.

28 But if there be no interpreter, let him keep silence in the church; and let him speak to himself, and to God.

28 Y si no hay intérprete, calle en la iglesia, y hable para sí mismo y para Dios.

29 Let the prophets speak two or three, and let the other judge.

29 Asimismo, los profetas hablen dos o tres, y los demás juzguen.

30 If any thing be revealed to another that sitteth by, let the first hold his peace.

30 Y si a otro que está sentado le es revelado algo, calle el primero.

31 For ye may all prophesy one by one, that all may learn, and all may be comforted.

31 Porque podéis profetizar todos, uno por uno, para que todos aprendan y todos sean exhortados.

32 And the spirits of the prophets are subject to the prophets.

32 Y los espíritus de los profetas están sujetos a los profetas,

33 For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints.

33 porque Dios no es Dios de confusión, sino de paz, como en todas las iglesias de los santos.

34 Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience, as also saith the law.

34 Vuestras mujeres callen en las congregaciones, porque no les es permitido hablar, sino que estén sujetas, como dice también la ley.

35 And if they will learn any thing, let them ask their husbands at home: for it is a shame for women to speak in the church.

35 Y si quieren aprender algo, pregunten en casa a sus maridos, porque es indecoroso que una mujer hable en la congregación.

36 What? came the word of God out from you? or came it unto you only?

36 ¿Acaso ha salido de vosotros la palabra de Dios, o solo a vosotros ha llegado?

37 If any man think himself to be a prophet, or spiritual, let him acknowledge that the things that I write unto you are the commandments of the Lord.

37 Si alguno a su parecer es profeta, o espiritual, reconozca que lo que os escribo son mandamientos del Señor.

38 But if any man be ignorant, let him be ignorant.

38 Pero el que lo ignora, que lo ignore.

39 Wherefore, brethren, covet to prophesy, and forbid not to speak with tongues.

39 Así que, hermanos, procurad profetizar, y no impidáis el hablar en lenguas.

40 Let all things be done decently and in order.

40 Pero hágase todo decentemente y con orden.
