1 Verily I say unto you my friends, fear not, let your hearts be comforted; yea, rejoice evermore, and in everything give thanks;

1 De cierto os digo, mis amigos, no temáis, consuélense vuestros corazones; sí, regocijaos para siempre, y en todas las cosas dad gracias;

2 Waiting patiently on the Lord, for your prayers have entered into the ears of the Lord of Sabaoth, and are recorded with this seal and testament—the Lord hath sworn and decreed that they shall be granted.

2 esperando pacientemente en el Señor, porque vuestras oraciones han entrado en los oídos del Señor de Sabaot, y están inscritas con este sello y testimonio: El Señor ha jurado y decretado que serán otorgadas.

3 Therefore, he giveth this promise unto you, with an immutable covenant that they shall be fulfilled; and all things wherewith you have been afflicted shall work together for your good, and to my name's glory, saith the Lord.

3 Por lo tanto, él os concede esta promesa, con un convenio inmutable de que serán cumplidas; y todas las cosas con que habéis sido afligidos obrarán juntamente para vuestro bien y para la gloria de mi nombre, dice el Señor.

4 And now, verily I say unto you concerning the laws of the land, it is my will that my people should observe to do all things whatsoever I command them.

4 Y ahora, de cierto os digo, concerniente a las leyes del país, es mi voluntad que mi pueblo procure hacer todo cuanto yo le mande.

5 And that law of the land which is constitutional, supporting that principle of freedom in maintaining rights and privileges, belongs to all mankind, and is justifiable before me.

5 Y la ley del país que es constitucional, que apoya ese principio de libertad en la preservación de derechos y privilegios, pertenece a toda la humanidad y es justificable ante mí.

6 Therefore, I, the Lord, justify you, and your brethren of my church, in befriending that law which is the constitutional law of the land;

6 Por tanto, yo, el Señor, os justifico, así como a vuestros hermanos de mi iglesia, en apoyar la que fuere la ley constitucional del país;

7 And as pertaining to law of man, whatsoever is more or less than this, cometh of evil.

7 y en cuanto a la ley del hombre, lo que sea más o menos que esto, del mal proviene.

8 I, the Lord God, make you free, therefore ye are free indeed; and the law also maketh you free.

8 Yo, Dios el Señor, os hago libres; por consiguiente, sois verdaderamente libres; y la ley también os hace libres.

9 Nevertheless, when the wicked rule the people mourn.

9 Sin embargo, cuando los inicuos gobiernan, el pueblo se lamenta.

10 Wherefore, honest men and wise men should be sought for diligently, and good men and wise men ye should observe to uphold; otherwise whatsoever is less than these cometh of evil.

10 Por tanto, debe buscarse diligentemente a hombres honrados y sabios, y a hombres buenos y sabios debéis esforzaros por apoyar; de lo contrario, lo que sea menos que esto del mal procede.

11 And I give unto you a commandment, that ye shall forsake all evil and cleave unto all good, that ye shall live by every word which proceedeth forth out of the mouth of God.

11 Y os doy un mandamiento, que vosotros desechéis todo lo malo y os alleguéis a todo lo bueno, y que viváis de acuerdo con toda palabra que sale de la boca de Dios.

12 For he will give unto the faithful line upon line, precept upon precept; and I will try you and prove you herewith.

12 Porque él dará a los fieles línea sobre línea, precepto tras precepto; y en esto os pondré a prueba y os probaré.

13 And whoso layeth down his life in my cause, for my name's sake, shall find it again, even life eternal.

13 Y el que diere su vida en mi causa, por mi nombre, la hallará otra vez, sí, vida eterna.

14 Therefore, be not afraid of your enemies, for I have decreed in my heart, saith the Lord, that I will prove you in all things, whether you will abide in my covenant, even unto death, that you may be found worthy.

14 No temáis, pues, a vuestros enemigos, porque he decretado en mi corazón probaros en todas las cosas, dice el Señor, para ver si permanecéis en mi convenio aun hasta la muerte, a fin de que seáis hallados dignos.

15 For if ye will not abide in my covenant ye are not worthy of me.

15 Porque si no permanecéis en mi convenio, no sois dignos de mí.

16 Therefore, renounce war and proclaim peace, and seek diligently to turn the hearts of the children to their fathers, and the hearts of the fathers to the children;

16 Por tanto, renunciad a la guerra y proclamad la paz, y procurad diligentemente hacer volver el corazón de los hijos a sus padres, y el corazón de los padres a los hijos;

17 And again, the hearts of the Jews unto the prophets, and the prophets unto the Jews; lest I come and smite the whole earth with a curse, and all flesh be consumed before me.

17 y además, el corazón de los judíos a los profetas, y los profetas a los judíos; no sea que yo venga y hiera toda la tierra con una maldición, y toda carne sea consumida ante mí.

18 Let not your hearts be troubled; for in my Father's house are many mansions, and I have prepared a place for you; and where my Father and I am, there ye shall be also.

18 No se turbe vuestro corazón, porque en la casa de mi Padre muchas moradas hay, y he preparado lugar para vosotros; y donde mi Padre y yo estamos, allí también estaréis vosotros.

19 Behold, I, the Lord, am not well pleased with many who are in the church at Kirtland;

19 He aquí, yo, el Señor, no estoy bien complacido con muchos de los que son de la iglesia en Kirtland;

20 For they do not forsake their sins, and their wicked ways, the pride of their hearts, and their covetousness, and all their detestable things, and observe the words of wisdom and eternal life which I have given unto them.

20 porque no abandonan sus pecados, ni sus malas costumbres, ni el orgullo de sus corazones, ni su codicia ni todas sus cosas abominables, para observar las palabras de sabiduría y de vida eterna que yo les he dado.

21 Verily I say unto you, that I, the Lord, will chasten them and will do whatsoever I list, if they do not repent and observe all things whatsoever I have said unto them.

21 De cierto os digo, que yo, el Señor, los disciplinaré y haré lo que yo tenga a bien, si no se arrepienten y observan todo lo que les he dicho.

22 And again I say unto you, if ye observe to do whatsoever I command you, I, the Lord, will turn away all wrath and indignation from you, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against you.

22 Y de nuevo os digo, si procuráis hacer todo lo que os mando, yo, el Señor, apartaré toda ira e indignación de vosotros, y las puertas del infierno no prevalecerán en contra de vosotros.

23 Now, I speak unto you concerning your families—if men will smite you, or your families, once, and ye bear it patiently and revile not against them, neither seek revenge, ye shall be rewarded;

23 Ahora os hablo concerniente a vuestras familias: Si los hombres os hieren a vosotros o a vuestras familias una vez, y lo soportáis con paciencia, sin injuriarlos ni procurar vengaros, seréis recompensados;

24 But if ye bear it not patiently, it shall be accounted unto you as being meted out as a just measure unto you.

24 mas si no lo soportáis con paciencia, os será contado por medida justa impartida a vosotros.

25 And again, if your enemy shall smite you the second time, and you revile not against your enemy, and bear it patiently, your reward shall be an hundred-fold.

25 Y además, si vuestro enemigo os hiere por segunda vez, y no injuriáis a vuestro enemigo, mas lo soportáis pacientemente, vuestra recompensa será cien tantos más;

26 And again, if he shall smite you the third time, and ye bear it patiently, your reward shall be doubled unto you four-fold;

26 y además, si os hiere por tercera vez, y lo soportáis con paciencia, vuestra recompensa os será cuadruplicada;

27 And these three testimonies shall stand against your enemy if he repent not, and shall not be blotted out.

27 y estos tres testimonios acusarán a vuestro enemigo si no se arrepiente, y no serán borrados.

28 And now, verily I say unto you, if that enemy shall escape my vengeance, that he be not brought into judgment before me, then ye shall see to it that ye warn him in my name, that he come no more upon you, neither upon your family, even your children's children unto the third and fourth generation.

28 Y ahora, de cierto os digo, si dicho enemigo se escapa de mi venganza, de modo que no es traído a juicio delante de mí, entonces os aseguraréis de advertirle en mi nombre que no venga más contra vosotros, ni contra vuestra familia, ni tampoco contra los hijos de vuestros hijos hasta la tercera y la cuarta generación.

29 And then, if he shall come upon you or your children, or your children's children unto the third and fourth generation, I have delivered thine enemy into thine hands;

29 Y si entonces viene contra vosotros o vuestros hijos, o los hijos de vuestros hijos hasta la tercera o la cuarta generación, entregaré a vuestro enemigo en vuestras manos;

30 And then if thou wilt spare him, thou shalt be rewarded for thy righteousness; and also thy children and thy children's children unto the third and fourth generation.

30 y entonces si lo perdonáis, seréis recompensados por vuestra rectitud; y también vuestros hijos y los hijos de vuestros hijos, hasta la tercera y la cuarta generación.

31 Nevertheless, thine enemy is in thine hands; and if thou rewardest him according to his works thou art justified; if he has sought thy life, and thy life is endangered by him, thine enemy is in thine hands and thou art justified.

31 Sin embargo, está en vuestras manos; y si le pagáis de acuerdo con sus obras, quedáis justificados; si ha atentado contra vuestra vida, y peligra vuestra vida a causa de él, vuestro enemigo está en vuestras manos y quedáis justificados.

32 Behold, this is the law I gave unto my servant Nephi, and thy fathers, Joseph, and Jacob, and Isaac, and Abraham, and all mine ancient prophets and apostles.

32 He aquí, esta es la ley que di a mi siervo Nefi, y a tus padres José, y Jacob, e Isaac, y Abraham, y a todos mis profetas y apóstoles antiguos.

33 And again, this is the law that I gave unto mine ancients, that they should not go out unto battle against any nation, kindred, tongue, or people, save I, the Lord, commanded them.

33 Y además, esta es la ley que di a mis antiguos: que no saliesen a la guerra contra ninguna nación, tribu, lengua o pueblo, salvo que yo, el Señor, se lo mandara.

34 And if any nation, tongue, or people should proclaim war against them, they should first lift a standard of peace unto that people, nation, or tongue;

34 Y si alguna nación, lengua o pueblo proclamaba la guerra en contra de ellos, primero izaran un estandarte de paz a esa nación, lengua o pueblo;

35 And if that people did not accept the offering of peace, neither the second nor the third time, they should bring these testimonies before the Lord;

35 y si ese pueblo no aceptaba la oferta de paz, ni la segunda, ni la tercera vez, habían de traer estos testimonios ante el Señor;

36 Then I, the Lord, would give unto them a commandment, and justify them in going out to battle against that nation, tongue, or people.

36 entonces, yo, el Señor, les daba un mandamiento, y los justificaba para salir a luchar contra esa nación, lengua o pueblo.

37 And I, the Lord, would fight their battles, and their children's battles, and their children's children's, until they had avenged themselves on all their enemies, to the third and fourth generation.

37 Y yo, el Señor, peleaba sus batallas, y las batallas de sus hijos, y de los hijos de sus hijos, hasta que se vengaban de todos sus enemigos, hasta la tercera y la cuarta generación.

38 Behold, this is an ensample unto all people, saith the Lord your God, for justification before me.

38 He aquí, esta es la norma para todo pueblo, dice el Señor tu Dios, para que haya justificación delante de mí.

39 And again, verily I say unto you, if after thine enemy has come upon thee the first time, he repent and come unto thee praying thy forgiveness, thou shalt forgive him, and shalt hold it no more as a testimony against thine enemy—

39 Y además, de cierto os digo, que si vuestro enemigo, después de haber venido contra vosotros la primera vez, se arrepiente y viene a vosotros a pediros perdón, lo perdonaréis, y no lo tendréis por más tiempo como testimonio contra él;

40 And so on unto the second and third time; and as oft as thine enemy repenteth of the trespass wherewith he has trespassed against thee, thou shalt forgive him, until seventy times seven.

40 y así hasta la segunda y la tercera vez; y cuantas veces vuestro enemigo se arrepienta de las ofensas que haya cometido contra vosotros, lo perdonaréis, hasta setenta veces siete.

41 And if he trespass against thee and repent not the first time, nevertheless thou shalt forgive him.

41 Y si os agravia y no se arrepiente la primera vez, aun así lo perdonaréis.

42 And if he trespass against thee the second time, and repent not, nevertheless thou shalt forgive him.

42 Y si os agravia la segunda vez, y no se arrepiente, aun así habéis de perdonarlo.

43 And if he trespass against thee the third time, and repent not, thou shalt also forgive him.

43 Y si os agravia por tercera vez, y no se arrepiente, también habéis de perdonarlo.

44 But if he trespass against thee the fourth time thou shalt not forgive him, but shalt bring these testimonies before the Lord; and they shall not be blotted out until he repent and reward thee four-fold in all things wherewith he has trespassed against thee.

44 Mas si os agravia la cuarta vez, no lo habéis de perdonar, sino que traeréis estos testimonios ante el Señor; y no serán borrados hasta que se arrepienta y os reponga con cuatro tantos en todas las cosas en que él os haya agraviado.

45 And if he do this, thou shalt forgive him with all thine heart; and if he do not this, I, the Lord, will avenge thee of thine enemy an hundred-fold;

45 Y si hace esto, lo perdonaréis de todo corazón; y si no lo hace, yo, el Señor, os vengaré de vuestro enemigo cien veces;

46 And upon his children, and upon his children's children of all them that hate me, unto the third and fourth generation.

46 y de sus hijos, y de los hijos de los hijos de todos los que me odien, hasta la tercera y la cuarta generación.

47 But if the children shall repent, or the children's children, and turn to the Lord their God, with all their hearts and with all their might, mind, and strength, and restore four-fold for all their trespasses wherewith they have trespassed, or wherewith their fathers have trespassed, or their fathers' fathers, then thine indignation shall be turned away;

47 Mas si los hijos se arrepienten, o los hijos de sus hijos, y se tornan al Señor su Dios, con todo su corazón, alma, mente y fuerza, y restituyen con cuatro tantos todas sus ofensas que cometieron ellos o sus padres, o los padres de sus padres, entonces se apartará de ellos vuestra indignación;

48 And vengeance shall no more come upon them, saith the Lord thy God, and their trespasses shall never be brought any more as a testimony before the Lord against them. Amen.

48 y no vendrá más sobre ellos la venganza, dice el Señor vuestro Dios, y sus ofensas nunca más serán presentadas como testimonio en contra de ellos ante el Señor. Amén.
