1 Verily, thus saith the Lord: It shall come to pass that every soul who forsaketh his sins and cometh unto me, and calleth on my name, and obeyeth my voice, and keepeth my commandments, shall see my face and know that I am;

1 De cierto, así dice el Señor: Acontecerá que toda alma que deseche sus pecados y venga a mí, invoque mi nombre, obedezca mi voz y guarde mis mandamientos, verá mi faz y sabrá que yo soy;

2 And that I am the true light that lighteth every man that cometh into the world;

2 y que yo soy la luz verdadera que ilumina a todo hombre que viene al mundo;

3 And that I am in the Father, and the Father in me, and the Father and I are one—

3 y que soy en el Padre, y el Padre en mí, y el Padre y yo somos uno,

4 The Father because he gave me of his fulness, and the Son because I was in the world and made flesh my tabernacle, and dwelt among the sons of men.

4 el Padre, porque me dio de su plenitud, y el Hijo, porque estuve en el mundo, e hice de la carne mi tabernáculo y habité entre los hijos de los hombres.

5 I was in the world and received of my Father, and the works of him were plainly manifest.

5 Estuve en el mundo y recibí de mi Padre, y sus obras plenamente se manifestaron.

6 And John saw and bore record of the fulness of my glory, and the fulness of John's record is hereafter to be revealed.

6 Y Juan vio la plenitud de mi gloria y dio testimonio de ella; y la plenitud del testimonio de Juan más adelante ha de ser revelada.

7 And he bore record, saying: I saw his glory, that he was in the beginning, before the world was;

7 Y él dio testimonio, diciendo: Vi su gloria, que él era en el principio, antes que el mundo fuese;

8 Therefore, in the beginning the Word was, for he was the Word, even the messenger of salvation—

8 así que, en el principio era el Verbo, porque él era el Verbo, sí, el mensajero de salvación,

9 The light and the Redeemer of the world; the Spirit of truth, who came into the world, because the world was made by him, and in him was the life of men and the light of men.

9 la luz y el Redentor del mundo; el Espíritu de verdad que vino al mundo, porque el mundo fue hecho por él, y en él estaban la vida y la luz de los hombres.

10 The worlds were made by him; men were made by him; all things were made by him, and through him, and of him.

10 Los mundos por él fueron hechos, y por él los hombres fueron hechos; todas las cosas fueron hechas por él, mediante él y de él.

11 And I, John, bear record that I beheld his glory, as the glory of the Only Begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth, even the Spirit of truth, which came and dwelt in the flesh, and dwelt among us.

11 Y yo, Juan, doy testimonio de que vi su gloria, como la gloria del Unigénito del Padre, lleno de gracia y de verdad, sí, el Espíritu de verdad que vino y moró en la carne, y habitó entre nosotros.

12 And I, John, saw that he received not of the fulness at the first, but received grace for grace;

12 Y yo, Juan, vi que no recibió de la plenitud al principio, mas recibía gracia sobre gracia;

13 And he received not of the fulness at first, but continued from grace to grace, until he received a fulness;

13 y no recibió de la plenitud al principio, sino que continuó de gracia en gracia hasta que recibió la plenitud;

14 And thus he was called the Son of God, because he received not of the fulness at the first.

14 y por esto fue llamado el Hijo de Dios, porque no recibió de la plenitud al principio.

15 And I, John, bear record, and lo, the heavens were opened, and the Holy Ghost descended upon him in the form of a dove, and sat upon him, and there came a voice out of heaven saying: This is my beloved Son.

15 Y yo, Juan, doy testimonio, y he aquí, los cielos fueron abiertos, y el Espíritu Santo descendió sobre él en forma de paloma y reposó sobre él; y vino una voz de los cielos, que decía: Este es mi Hijo Amado.

16 And I, John, bear record that he received a fulness of the glory of the Father;

16 Y yo, Juan, testifico que recibió la plenitud de la gloria del Padre;

17 And he received all power, both in heaven and on earth, and the glory of the Father was with him, for he dwelt in him.

17 y recibió todo poder, tanto en el cielo como en la tierra, y la gloria del Padre fue con él, porque moró en él.

18 And it shall come to pass, that if you are faithful you shall receive the fulness of the record of John.

18 Y acontecerá que si sois fieles, recibiréis la plenitud del testimonio de Juan.

19 I give unto you these sayings that you may understand and know how to worship, and know what you worship, that you may come unto the Father in my name, and in due time receive of his fulness.

19 Os digo estas palabras para que comprendáis y sepáis cómo adorar, y sepáis qué adoráis, para que vengáis al Padre en mi nombre, y en el debido tiempo recibáis de su plenitud.

20 For if you keep my commandments you shall receive of his fulness, and be glorified in me as I am in the Father; therefore, I say unto you, you shall receive grace for grace.

20 Porque si guardáis mis mandamientos, recibiréis de su plenitud y seréis glorificados en mí como yo lo soy en el Padre; por lo tanto, os digo, recibiréis gracia sobre gracia.

21 And now, verily I say unto you, I was in the beginning with the Father, and am the Firstborn;

21 Y ahora, de cierto os digo, yo estuve en el principio con el Padre, y soy el Primogénito;

22 And all those who are begotten through me are partakers of the glory of the same, and are the church of the Firstborn.

22 y todos los que por medio de mí son engendrados, son partícipes de esa gloria, y son la iglesia del Primogénito.

23 Ye were also in the beginning with the Father; that which is Spirit, even the Spirit of truth;

23 Vosotros también estuvisteis en el principio con el Padre; lo que es Espíritu, sí, el Espíritu de verdad;

24 And truth is knowledge of things as they are, and as they were, and as they are to come;

24 y la verdad es el conocimiento de las cosas como son, como eran y como han de ser;

25 And whatsoever is more or less than this is the spirit of that wicked one who was a liar from the beginning.

25 y lo que sea más o menos que esto es el espíritu de aquel inicuo que fue mentiroso desde el principio.

26 The Spirit of truth is of God. I am the Spirit of truth, and John bore record of me, saying: He received a fulness of truth, yea, even of all truth;

26 El Espíritu de verdad es de Dios. Yo soy el Espíritu de verdad, y Juan dio testimonio de mí, diciendo: Él recibió la plenitud de la verdad, sí, aun de toda la verdad;

27 And no man receiveth a fulness unless he keepeth his commandments.

27 y ningún hombre recibe la plenitud, a menos que guarde sus mandamientos.

28 He that keepeth his commandments receiveth truth and light, until he is glorified in truth and knoweth all things.

28 El que guarda sus mandamientos recibe verdad y luz, hasta que es glorificado en la verdad y sabe todas las cosas.

29 Man was also in the beginning with God. Intelligence, or the light of truth, was not created or made, neither indeed can be.

29 También el hombre fue en el principio con Dios. La inteligencia, o sea, la luz de verdad, no fue creada ni hecha, ni tampoco lo puede ser.

30 All truth is independent in that sphere in which God has placed it, to act for itself, as all intelligence also; otherwise there is no existence.

30 Toda verdad es independiente para obrar por sí misma en aquella esfera en que Dios la ha colocado, así como toda inteligencia; de otra manera, no hay existencia.

31 Behold, here is the agency of man, and here is the condemnation of man; because that which was from the beginning is plainly manifest unto them, and they receive not the light.

31 He aquí, esto constituye el albedrío del hombre y la condenación del hombre; porque claramente les es manifestado lo que existió desde el principio, y no reciben la luz.

32 And every man whose spirit receiveth not the light is under condemnation.

32 Y todo hombre cuyo espíritu no recibe la luz está bajo condenación.

33 For man is spirit. The elements are eternal, and spirit and element, inseparably connected, receive a fulness of joy;

33 Porque el hombre es espíritu. Los elementos son eternos; y espíritu y elemento, inseparablemente unidos, reciben una plenitud de gozo;

34 And when separated, man cannot receive a fulness of joy.

34 y cuando están separados, el hombre no puede recibir una plenitud de gozo.

35 The elements are the tabernacle of God; yea, man is the tabernacle of God, even temples; and whatsoever temple is defiled, God shall destroy that temple.

35 Los elementos son el tabernáculo de Dios; sí, el hombre es el tabernáculo de Dios, a saber, templos; y el templo que fuere profanado, Dios lo destruirá.

36 The glory of God is intelligence, or, in other words, light and truth.

36 La gloria de Dios es la inteligencia, o en otras palabras, luz y verdad.

37 Light and truth forsake that evil one.

37 La luz y la verdad desechan a aquel inicuo.

38 Every spirit of man was innocent in the beginning; and God having redeemed man from the fall, men became again, in their infant state, innocent before God.

38 Todos los espíritus de los hombres fueron inocentes en el principio; y habiéndolo redimido Dios de la caída, el hombre llegó a quedar de nuevo en su estado de infancia, inocente delante de Dios.

39 And that wicked one cometh and taketh away light and truth, through disobedience, from the children of men, and because of the tradition of their fathers.

39 Y aquel inicuo viene y despoja a los hijos de los hombres de la luz y la verdad, por medio de la desobediencia, y a causa de las tradiciones de sus padres.

40 But I have commanded you to bring up your children in light and truth.

40 Pero yo os he mandado criar a vuestros hijos en la luz y la verdad.

41 But verily I say unto you, my servant Frederick G. Williams, you have continued under this condemnation;

41 Mas de cierto te digo, mi siervo Frederick G. Williams, que tú has continuado bajo esta condenación;

42 You have not taught your children light and truth, according to the commandments; and that wicked one hath power, as yet, over you, and this is the cause of your affliction.

42 no has enseñado a tus hijos e hijas la luz y la verdad, conforme a los mandamientos; y aquel inicuo todavía tiene poder sobre ti, y esta es la causa de tu aflicción.

43 And now a commandment I give unto you—if you will be delivered you shall set in order your own house, for there are many things that are not right in your house.

43 Y ahora te doy un mandamiento: Si quieres verte libre, has de poner tu propia casa en orden, porque hay en tu casa muchas cosas que no son rectas.

44 Verily, I say unto my servant Sidney Rigdon, that in some things he hath not kept the commandments concerning his children; therefore, first set in order thy house.

44 De cierto le digo a mi siervo Sidney Rigdon, que en ciertas cosas no ha guardado los mandamientos en cuanto a sus hijos; por tanto, ponga en orden su casa primero.

45 Verily, I say unto my servant Joseph Smith, Jun., or in other words, I will call you friends, for you are my friends, and ye shall have an inheritance with me—

45 De cierto le digo a mi siervo José Smith, hijo, o en otras palabras, os llamaré amigos, porque sois mis amigos y tendréis una herencia conmigo

46 I called you servants for the world's sake, and ye are their servants for my sake—

46 —os llamé siervos por causa del mundo, y sois sus siervos por mi causa—

47 And now, verily I say unto Joseph Smith, Jun.—You have not kept the commandments, and must needs stand rebuked before the Lord;

47 y ahora, de cierto le digo a mi siervo José Smith, hijo: No has guardado los mandamientos, y debes ser reprendido ante el Señor;

48 Your family must needs repent and forsake some things, and give more earnest heed unto your sayings, or be removed out of their place.

48 es necesario que los de tu familia se arrepientan y abandonen algunas cosas, y que atiendan con mayor diligencia a tus palabras, o serán quitados de su lugar.

49 What I say unto one I say unto all; pray always lest that wicked one have power in you, and remove you out of your place.

49 Lo que digo a uno lo digo a todos; orad en todo tiempo, no sea que aquel inicuo logre poder en vosotros y os quite de vuestro lugar.

50 My servant Newel K. Whitney also, a bishop of my church, hath need to be chastened, and set in order his family, and see that they are more diligent and concerned at home, and pray always, or they shall be removed out of their place.

50 Mi siervo Newel K. Whitney, obispo de mi iglesia, también tiene necesidad de ser reprendido, y de poner en orden a su familia, y procurar que sean más diligentes y atentos en el hogar, y que oren siempre, o serán quitados de su lugar.

51 Now, I say unto you, my friends, let my servant Sidney Rigdon go on his journey, and make haste, and also proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord, and the gospel of salvation, as I shall give him utterance; and by your prayer of faith with one consent I will uphold him.

51 Ahora os digo, mis amigos, emprenda su viaje con rapidez mi siervo Sidney Rigdon, y también proclame el año agradable del Señor y el evangelio de salvación, conforme a las palabras que yo le dé; y por vuestra oración unánime de fe lo sostendré.

52 And let my servants Joseph Smith, Jun., and Frederick G. Williams make haste also, and it shall be given them even according to the prayer of faith; and inasmuch as you keep my sayings you shall not be confounded in this world, nor in the world to come.

52 Y apresúrense también mis siervos José Smith, hijo, y Frederick G. Williams, y les será dado según la oración de fe; y si guardáis mis palabras, no seréis confundidos en este mundo ni en el venidero.

53 And, verily I say unto you, that it is my will that you should hasten to translate my scriptures, and to obtain a knowledge of history, and of countries, and of kingdoms, of laws of God and man, and all this for the salvation of Zion. Amen.

53 Y de cierto os digo, es mi voluntad que os deis prisa para traducir mis Escrituras y para adquirir un conocimiento de la historia, y de los países y de los reinos, y de las leyes de Dios y de los hombres, y todo esto para la salvación de Sion. Amén.
