1 Behold, I say unto you, my son, that because you did not translate according to that which you desired of me, and did commence again to write for my servant, Joseph Smith, Jun., even so I would that ye should continue until you have finished this record, which I have entrusted unto him.

1 He aquí, hijo mío, te digo que a causa de no haber traducido conforme a lo que deseaste de mí, y de haber empezado de nuevo a escribir por mi siervo José Smith, hijo, así quisiera yo que continuases hasta concluir estos anales que le he confiado a él.

2 And then, behold, other records have I, that I will give unto you power that you may assist to translate.

2 Y entonces, he aquí, te daré poder para ayudar a traducir otros anales que tengo.

3 Be patient, my son, for it is wisdom in me, and it is not expedient that you should translate at this present time.

3 Ten paciencia, hijo mío, porque es según mi sabiduría, y no es oportuno que traduzcas por ahora.

4 Behold, the work which you are called to do is to write for my servant Joseph.

4 He aquí, la obra a la cual has sido llamado es la de escribir por mi siervo José.

5 And, behold, it is because that you did not continue as you commenced, when you began to translate, that I have taken away this privilege from you.

5 Y he aquí, es por motivo de que no continuaste como al comienzo, cuando empezaste a traducir, que te he quitado este privilegio.

6 Do not murmur, my son, for it is wisdom in me that I have dealt with you after this manner.

6 No te quejes, hijo mío, porque es según mi sabiduría el haber obrado contigo de esta manera.

7 Behold, you have not understood; you have supposed that I would give it unto you, when you took no thought save it was to ask me.

7 He aquí, no has entendido; has supuesto que yo te lo concedería cuando no pensaste sino en pedirme.

8 But, behold, I say unto you, that you must study it out in your mind; then you must ask me if it be right, and if it is right I will cause that your bosom shall burn within you; therefore, you shall feel that it is right.

8 Pero he aquí, te digo que debes estudiarlo en tu mente; entonces has de preguntarme si está bien; y si así fuere, haré que tu pecho arda dentro de ti; por tanto, sentirás que está bien.

9 But if it be not right you shall have no such feelings, but you shall have a stupor of thought that shall cause you to forget the thing which is wrong; therefore, you cannot write that which is sacred save it be given you from me.

9 Mas si no estuviere bien, no sentirás tal cosa, sino que te sobrevendrá un estupor de pensamiento que te hará olvidar lo que está mal; por lo tanto, no puedes escribir lo que es sagrado a no ser que lo recibas de mí.

10 Now, if you had known this you could have translated; nevertheless, it is not expedient that you should translate now.

10 Ahora, si hubieses sabido esto, habrías podido traducir; sin embargo, no es oportuno que traduzcas ahora.

11 Behold, it was expedient when you commenced; but you feared, and the time is past, and it is not expedient now;

11 He aquí, cuando comenzaste fue oportuno; mas tuviste miedo, y ha pasado el momento, y ahora ya no conviene;

12 For, do you not behold that I have given unto my servant Joseph sufficient strength, whereby it is made up? And neither of you have I condemned.

12 porque, ¿no ves que le he dado a mi siervo José fuerza suficiente mediante la cual esto se compensa? Y a ninguno de vosotros dos he condenado.

13 Do this thing which I have commanded you, and you shall prosper. Be faithful, and yield to no temptation.

13 Haz esto que te he mandado, y prosperarás. Sé fiel y no cedas a ninguna tentación.

14 Stand fast in the work wherewith I have called you, and a hair of your head shall not be lost, and you shall be lifted up at the last day. Amen.

14 Consérvate firme en la obra a la cual te he llamado, y ni un cabello de tu cabeza se perderá, y en el postrer día serás enaltecido. Amén.
