1 Verily, verily, I say unto you, my servants, that inasmuch as you have forgiven one another your trespasses, even so I, the Lord, forgive you.

1 De cierto, de cierto os digo, mis siervos, que por cuanto os habéis perdonado el uno al otro vuestras transgresiones, así también yo, el Señor, os perdono.

2 Nevertheless, there are those among you who have sinned exceedingly; yea, even all of you have sinned; but verily I say unto you, beware from henceforth, and refrain from sin, lest sore judgments fall upon your heads.

2 No obstante, hay entre vosotros algunos que han pecado extremadamente; sí, todos vosotros habéis pecado; mas de cierto os digo, tened cuidado de aquí en adelante y absteneos de pecar, no sea que desciendan graves juicios sobre vuestra cabeza.

3 For of him unto whom much is given much is required; and he who sins against the greater light shall receive the greater condemnation.

3 Porque de aquel a quien mucho se da, mucho se requiere; y el que peque contra mayor luz, mayor condenación recibirá.

4 Ye call upon my name for revelations, and I give them unto you; and inasmuch as ye keep not my sayings, which I give unto you, ye become transgressors; and justice and judgment are the penalty which is affixed unto my law.

4 Pedís revelaciones en mi nombre, y os las concedo; y si no observáis mis palabras que os doy, os hacéis transgresores; y justicia y juicio son el castigo que prescribe mi ley.

5 Therefore, what I say unto one I say unto all: Watch, for the adversary spreadeth his dominions, and darkness reigneth;

5 Por tanto, lo que digo a uno lo digo a todos: Velad, porque el adversario extiende sus dominios y las tinieblas reinan;

6 And the anger of God kindleth against the inhabitants of the earth; and none doeth good, for all have gone out of the way.

6 y la ira de Dios se enciende contra los habitantes de la tierra; y nadie hace lo bueno, porque todos se han extraviado.

7 And now, verily I say unto you, I, the Lord, will not lay any sin to your charge; go your ways and sin no more; but unto that soul who sinneth shall the former sins return, saith the Lord your God.

7 Y ahora, yo, el Señor, en verdad os digo que no os imputaré ningún pecado; id y no pequéis más; pero los pecados anteriores volverán al alma que peque, dice el Señor vuestro Dios.

8 And again, I say unto you, I give unto you a new commandment, that you may understand my will concerning you;

8 Y además, os digo que os doy un mandamiento nuevo para que entendáis mi voluntad concerniente a vosotros;

9 Or, in other words, I give unto you directions how you may act before me, that it may turn to you for your salvation.

9 o en otras palabras, os doy instrucciones en cuanto a la manera de conduciros delante de mí, a fin de que se torne para vuestra salvación.

10 I, the Lord, am bound when ye do what I say; but when ye do not what I say, ye have no promise.

10 Yo, el Señor, estoy obligado cuando hacéis lo que os digo; mas cuando no hacéis lo que os digo, ninguna promesa tenéis.

11 Therefore, verily I say unto you, that it is expedient for my servants Edward Partridge and Newel K. Whitney, A. Sidney Gilbert and Sidney Rigdon, and my servant Joseph Smith, and John Whitmer and Oliver Cowdery, and W. W. Phelps and Martin Harris to be bound together by a bond and covenant that cannot be broken by transgression, except judgment shall immediately follow, in your several stewardships—

11 Por tanto, de cierto os digo, conviene que mis siervos Edward Partridge y Newel K. Whitney, A. Sidney Gilbert y Sidney Rigdon, y mi siervo José Smith, y John Whitmer y Oliver Cowdery, y W. W. Phelps y Martin Harris se unan por medio de un vínculo y convenio que no puede ser quebrantado por transgresión, sin que inmediatamente siga el juicio, en lo que toca a vuestras mayordomías respectivas,

12 To manage the affairs of the poor, and all things pertaining to the bishopric both in the land of Zion and in the land of Kirtland;

12 para administrar los asuntos de los pobres y todas las cosas pertenecientes al obispado, tanto en la tierra de Sion como en la de Kirtland;

13 For I have consecrated the land of Kirtland in mine own due time for the benefit of the saints of the Most High, and for a stake to Zion.

13 porque he consagrado la tierra de Kirtland en mi propio y debido tiempo para el beneficio de los santos del Altísimo, y para una estaca de Sion.

14 For Zion must increase in beauty, and in holiness; her borders must be enlarged; her stakes must be strengthened; yea, verily I say unto you, Zion must arise and put on her beautiful garments.

14 Porque Sion debe aumentar en belleza y santidad; sus fronteras se han de ensanchar; deben fortalecerse sus estacas; sí, de cierto os digo, Sion se ha de levantar y vestirse con sus ropas hermosas.

15 Therefore, I give unto you this commandment, that ye bind yourselves by this covenant, and it shall be done according to the laws of the Lord.

15 Por consiguiente, os doy este mandamiento de ligaros por medio de este convenio, y se hará según las leyes del Señor.

16 Behold, here is wisdom also in me for your good.

16 He aquí, también esto me es prudente, para provecho vuestro.

17 And you are to be equal, or in other words, you are to have equal claims on the properties, for the benefit of managing the concerns of your stewardships, every man according to his wants and his needs, inasmuch as his wants are just—

17 Y seréis iguales, o en otras palabras, tendréis el mismo derecho a los bienes, para el mejor manejo de los asuntos de vuestras mayordomías, cada hombre según sus carencias y necesidades si estas son justas,

18 And all this for the benefit of the church of the living God, that every man may improve upon his talent, that every man may gain other talents, yea, even an hundred fold, to be cast into the Lord's storehouse, to become the common property of the whole church—

18 y todo esto para el beneficio de la iglesia del Dios viviente, a fin de que todo hombre mejore su talento, y cada uno gane otros talentos, sí, hasta cien tantos, para guardarlos en el almacén del Señor, para que lleguen a ser bienes comunes de toda la iglesia,

19 Every man seeking the interest of his neighbor, and doing all things with an eye single to the glory of God.

19 buscando cada cual el bienestar de su prójimo, y haciendo todas las cosas con la mira puesta únicamente en la gloria de Dios.

20 This order I have appointed to be an everlasting order unto you, and unto your successors, inasmuch as you sin not.

20 Os he dado esta orden como orden sempiterna a vosotros y a vuestros sucesores, en tanto que no pequéis.

21 And the soul that sins against this covenant, and hardeneth his heart against it, shall be dealt with according to the laws of my church, and shall be delivered over to the buffetings of Satan until the day of redemption.

21 Y el alma que pecare contra este convenio, y endureciere en contra de él su corazón, será tratada de acuerdo con las leyes de mi iglesia y entregada a los bofetones de Satanás hasta el día de la redención.

22 And now, verily I say unto you, and this is wisdom, make unto yourselves friends with the mammon of unrighteousness, and they will not destroy you.

22 Y ahora de cierto os digo, y esto es prudente, ganaos amigos por medio de las riquezas de maldad, y no os destruirán.

23 Leave judgment alone with me, for it is mine and I will repay. Peace be with you; my blessings continue with you.

23 Dejadme a mí el juicio, porque es mío, y yo pagaré. Paz a vosotros; mis bendiciones os acompañan.

24 For even yet the kingdom is yours, and shall be forever, if you fall not from your steadfastness. Even so. Amen.

24 Porque todavía es vuestro el reino, y para siempre jamás lo será, si no caéis de vuestra firmeza. Así sea. Amén.
