1 Behold, thus saith the Lord your God unto you, O ye elders of my church, hearken ye and hear, and receive my will concerning you.

1 He aquí, así os dice el Señor vuestro Dios: Oh élderes de mi iglesia, escuchad y oíd, y recibid mi voluntad concerniente a vosotros.

2 For verily I say unto you, I will that ye should overcome the world; wherefore I will have compassion upon you.

2 Pues de cierto os digo, es mi voluntad que venzáis al mundo; por tanto, tendré compasión de vosotros.

3 There are those among you who have sinned; but verily I say, for this once, for mine own glory, and for the salvation of souls, I have forgiven you your sins.

3 Hay entre vosotros quienes han pecado; pero de cierto os digo, solamente por esta vez, para mi propia gloria y para la salvación de las almas, que os he perdonado vuestros pecados.

4 I will be merciful unto you, for I have given unto you the kingdom.

4 Seré misericordioso para con vosotros, porque os he dado el reino.

5 And the keys of the mysteries of the kingdom shall not be taken from my servant Joseph Smith, Jun., through the means I have appointed, while he liveth, inasmuch as he obeyeth mine ordinances.

5 Y las llaves de los misterios del reino no le serán quitadas a mi siervo José Smith, hijo, por los medios que he señalado, mientras viva, si obedece mis ordenanzas.

6 There are those who have sought occasion against him without cause;

6 Hay quienes han buscado motivo contra él sin causa;

7 Nevertheless, he has sinned; but verily I say unto you, I, the Lord, forgive sins unto those who confess their sins before me and ask forgiveness, who have not sinned unto death.

7 no obstante, él ha pecado; mas de cierto os digo, que yo, el Señor, perdono los pecados de aquellos que los confiesan ante mí y piden perdón, si no han pecado de muerte.

8 My disciples, in days of old, sought occasion against one another and forgave not one another in their hearts; and for this evil they were afflicted and sorely chastened.

8 En la antigüedad mis discípulos buscaron motivo el uno contra el otro, y no se perdonaron unos a otros en su corazón; y por esta maldad fueron afligidos y disciplinados con severidad.

9 Wherefore, I say unto you, that ye ought to forgive one another; for he that forgiveth not his brother his trespasses standeth condemned before the Lord; for there remaineth in him the greater sin.

9 Por tanto, os digo que debéis perdonaros los unos a los otros; pues el que no perdona las ofensas de su hermano, queda condenado ante el Señor, porque en él permanece el mayor pecado.

10 I, the Lord, will forgive whom I will forgive, but of you it is required to forgive all men.

10 Yo, el Señor, perdonaré a quien sea mi voluntad perdonar, mas a vosotros os es requerido perdonar a todos los hombres.

11 And ye ought to say in your hearts—let God judge between me and thee, and reward thee according to thy deeds.

11 Y debéis decir en vuestros corazones: Juzgue Dios entre tú y yo, y te premie de acuerdo con tus hechos.

12 And him that repenteth not of his sins, and confesseth them not, ye shall bring before the church, and do with him as the scripture saith unto you, either by commandment or by revelation.

12 Y traeréis ante la iglesia al que no se arrepienta de sus pecados, ni los confiese, y haréis con él según lo que las Escrituras os dicen, ya sea por mandamiento o por revelación.

13 And this ye shall do that God may be glorified—not because ye forgive not, having not compassion, but that ye may be justified in the eyes of the law, that ye may not offend him who is your lawgiver—

13 Y haréis esto para que Dios sea glorificado; no porque no perdonáis, no teniendo compasión, sino para que seáis justificados a los ojos de la ley, para que no ofendáis al que es vuestro legislador.

14 Verily I say, for this cause ye shall do these things.

14 En verdad, os digo que por esta causa haréis estas cosas.

15 Behold, I, the Lord, was angry with him who was my servant Ezra Booth, and also my servant Isaac Morley, for they kept not the law, neither the commandment;

15 He aquí, yo, el Señor, me enojé con el que fue mi siervo, Ezra Booth, así como con mi siervo Isaac Morley, porque no guardaron la ley, ni tampoco el mandamiento;

16 They sought evil in their hearts, and I, the Lord, withheld my Spirit. They condemned for evil that thing in which there was no evil; nevertheless I have forgiven my servant Isaac Morley.

16 buscaron lo malo en su corazón, y yo, el Señor, retuve mi Espíritu. Condenaron por malo aquello en que no había mal; no obstante, he perdonado a mi siervo Isaac Morley.

17 And also my servant Edward Partridge, behold, he hath sinned, and Satan seeketh to destroy his soul; but when these things are made known unto them, and they repent of the evil, they shall be forgiven.

17 Y he aquí, también mi siervo Edward Partridge ha pecado, y Satanás procura destruir su alma; mas cuando se les haga saber estas cosas, y se arrepientan de lo malo, serán perdonados.

18 And now, verily I say that it is expedient in me that my servant Sidney Gilbert, after a few weeks, shall return upon his business, and to his agency in the land of Zion;

18 Y ahora, de cierto os digo, me conviene que dentro de unas semanas, mi siervo Sidney Gilbert vuelva a su negocio y a su agencia en la tierra de Sion;

19 And that which he hath seen and heard may be made known unto my disciples, that they perish not. And for this cause have I spoken these things.

19 y que se dé a conocer a mis discípulos lo que él ha visto y oído, para que no perezcan. Y por esta causa he dicho estas cosas.

20 And again, I say unto you, that my servant Isaac Morley may not be tempted above that which he is able to bear, and counsel wrongfully to your hurt, I gave commandment that his farm should be sold.

20 Y además, os digo que para que mi siervo Isaac Morley no sea tentado más de lo que pueda resistir, y aconseje erróneamente para vuestro perjuicio, yo mandé vender su granja.

21 I will not that my servant Frederick G. Williams should sell his farm, for I, the Lord, will to retain a strong hold in the land of Kirtland, for the space of five years, in the which I will not overthrow the wicked, that thereby I may save some.

21 No quiero que mi siervo Frederick G. Williams venda su granja, porque yo, el Señor, deseo retener una firme posesión en la tierra de Kirtland por el período de cinco años, durante el cual no destruiré a los inicuos, para que así pueda salvar a algunos.

22 And after that day, I, the Lord, will not hold any guilty that shall go with an open heart up to the land of Zion; for I, the Lord, require the hearts of the children of men.

22 Y después de ese día, yo, el Señor, no tendré por culpable a nadie que suba con un corazón sincero a la tierra de Sion; porque yo, el Señor, requiero el corazón de los hijos de los hombres.

23 Behold, now it is called today until the coming of the Son of Man, and verily it is a day of sacrifice, and a day for the tithing of my people; for he that is tithed shall not be burned at his coming.

23 He aquí, el tiempo presente es llamado hoy hasta la venida del Hijo del Hombre; y en verdad, es un día de sacrificio y de requerir el diezmo de mi pueblo, porque el que es diezmado no será quemado en su venida.

24 For after today cometh the burning—this is speaking after the manner of the Lord—for verily I say, tomorrow all the proud and they that do wickedly shall be as stubble; and I will burn them up, for I am the Lord of Hosts; and I will not spare any that remain in Babylon.

24 Porque después del día de hoy viene la quema—esto es, hablando según la manera del Señor—porque de cierto os digo, mañana todos los soberbios y los que hacen maldad serán como rastrojo; y yo los quemaré, porque soy el Señor de los Ejércitos; y no perdonaré a ninguno que se quede en Babilonia.

25 Wherefore, if ye believe me, ye will labor while it is called today.

25 Por tanto, si me creéis, trabajaréis mientras dure lo que es llamado hoy.

26 And it is not meet that my servants, Newel K. Whitney and Sidney Gilbert, should sell their store and their possessions here; for this is not wisdom until the residue of the church, which remaineth in this place, shall go up unto the land of Zion.

26 No conviene que mis siervos, Newel K. Whitney y Sidney Gilbert, vendan su tienda y bienes que tienen aquí; porque no es prudente, sino hasta que suba a la tierra de Sion el resto de los miembros de la iglesia que quedan en este lugar.

27 Behold, it is said in my laws, or forbidden, to get in debt to thine enemies;

27 He aquí, en mis leyes está dicho, o sea, prohibido, contraer deudas con vuestros enemigos;

28 But behold, it is not said at any time that the Lord should not take when he please, and pay as seemeth him good.

28 mas he aquí, en ningún tiempo se ha dicho que el Señor no ha de tomar cuando él quiera, y pagar como bien le parezca.

29 Wherefore, as ye are agents, ye are on the Lord's errand; and whatever ye do according to the will of the Lord is the Lord's business.

29 De modo que, siendo vosotros agentes, estáis en la obra del Señor; y lo que hagáis conforme a su voluntad es asunto del Señor.

30 And he hath set you to provide for his saints in these last days, that they may obtain an inheritance in the land of Zion.

30 Y él os ha puesto para abastecer a sus santos en estos últimos días, a fin de que obtengan una heredad en la tierra de Sion.

31 And behold, I, the Lord, declare unto you, and my words are sure and shall not fail, that they shall obtain it.

31 Y he aquí, que yo, el Señor—y mis palabras son ciertas y no fallarán—os declaro que la obtendrán.

32 But all things must come to pass in their time.

32 Mas todas las cosas tienen que acontecer en su hora.

33 Wherefore, be not weary in well-doing, for ye are laying the foundation of a great work. And out of small things proceedeth that which is great.

33 Por tanto, no os canséis de hacer lo bueno, porque estáis poniendo los cimientos de una gran obra. Y de las cosas pequeñas proceden las grandes.

34 Behold, the Lord requireth the heart and a willing mind; and the willing and obedient shall eat the good of the land of Zion in these last days.

34 He aquí, el Señor requiere el corazón y una mente bien dispuesta; y los de buena voluntad y los obedientes comerán de la abundancia de la tierra de Sion en estos postreros días.

35 And the rebellious shall be cut off out of the land of Zion, and shall be sent away, and shall not inherit the land.

35 Y los rebeldes serán desterrados de la tierra de Sion, y serán expulsados y no heredarán la tierra.

36 For, verily I say that the rebellious are not of the blood of Ephraim, wherefore they shall be plucked out.

36 Porque, de cierto os digo, los rebeldes no son de la sangre de Efraín; por consiguiente, serán desarraigados.

37 Behold, I, the Lord, have made my church in these last days like unto a judge sitting on a hill, or in a high place, to judge the nations.

37 He aquí, en estos postreros días, yo, el Señor, he hecho a mi iglesia semejante a un juez que se sienta en un monte, o sea, en un lugar alto, para juzgar a las naciones.

38 For it shall come to pass that the inhabitants of Zion shall judge all things pertaining to Zion.

38 Pues sucederá que los habitantes de Sion juzgarán todas las cosas pertenecientes a Sion.

39 And liars and hypocrites shall be proved by them, and they who are not apostles and prophets shall be known.

39 Y probarán a los mentirosos y a los hipócritas, y los que no fueren apóstoles y profetas serán descubiertos.

40 And even the bishop, who is a judge, and his counselors, if they are not faithful in their stewardships shall be condemned, and others shall be planted in their stead.

40 Y aun el obispo, que es juez, y sus consejeros serán condenados, si no son fieles en sus mayordomías; y otros serán instalados en su lugar.

41 For, behold, I say unto you that Zion shall flourish, and the glory of the Lord shall be upon her;

41 Porque, he aquí, os digo que Sion florecerá, y la gloria del Señor descansará sobre ella;

42 And she shall be an ensign unto the people, and there shall come unto her out of every nation under heaven.

42 y será por estandarte al pueblo, y vendrán a ella de toda nación debajo de los cielos.

43 And the day shall come when the nations of the earth shall tremble because of her, and shall fear because of her terrible ones. The Lord hath spoken it. Amen.

43 Y llegará el día en que las naciones de la tierra temblarán a causa de ella, y temerán por motivo de sus poderosos. El Señor lo ha proferido. Amén.
