1 Hearken, O ye elders of my church, saith the Lord your God, who have assembled yourselves together, according to my commandments, in this land, which is the land of Missouri, which is the land which I have appointed and consecrated for the gathering of the saints.

1 Escuchad, oh élderes de mi iglesia, dice el Señor vuestro Dios, vosotros que conforme a mis mandamientos os habéis congregado en esta tierra, la tierra de Misuri, la cual he señalado y consagrado para el recogimiento de los santos.

2 Wherefore, this is the land of promise, and the place for the city of Zion.

2 Por tanto, esta es la tierra prometida y el sitio para la ciudad de Sion.

3 And thus saith the Lord your God, if you will receive wisdom here is wisdom. Behold, the place which is now called Independence is the center place; and a spot for the temple is lying westward, upon a lot which is not far from the courthouse.

3 Y así dice el Señor vuestro Dios, aquí hay sabiduría, si es que queréis recibirla. He aquí, el lugar que ahora se llama Independence es el lugar central; y el sitio para el templo se halla hacia el oeste, en un solar no lejos del juzgado.

4 Wherefore, it is wisdom that the land should be purchased by the saints, and also every tract lying westward, even unto the line running directly between Jew and Gentile;

4 Por tanto, es prudente que los santos compren el terreno y también toda parcela hacia el oeste, aun hasta la línea que corre directamente entre el judío y el gentil;

5 And also every tract bordering by the prairies, inasmuch as my disciples are enabled to buy lands. Behold, this is wisdom, that they may obtain it for an everlasting inheritance.

5 así como todo terreno que colinda con la llanura, hasta donde mis discípulos puedan comprar terrenos. He aquí, esto es prudente, a fin de que los adquieran como herencia eterna.

6 And let my servant Sidney Gilbert stand in the office to which I have appointed him, to receive moneys, to be an agent unto the church, to buy land in all the regions round about, inasmuch as can be done in righteousness, and as wisdom shall direct.

6 Y ocupe mi siervo Sidney Gilbert el puesto al cual lo he nombrado, para recibir el dinero, ser agente de la iglesia, comprar terrenos en todas las regiones circunvecinas, en tanto se haga con rectitud y como lo dicte la prudencia.

7 And let my servant Edward Partridge stand in the office to which I have appointed him, and divide unto the saints their inheritance, even as I have commanded; and also those whom he has appointed to assist him.

7 Y ocupe mi siervo Edward Partridge el puesto al cual lo he nombrado, y reparta entre los santos sus heredades tal como he mandado; como también aquellos que él ha nombrado para que le ayuden.

8 And again, verily I say unto you, let my servant Sidney Gilbert plant himself in this place, and establish a store, that he may sell goods without fraud, that he may obtain money to buy lands for the good of the saints, and that he may obtain whatsoever things the disciples may need to plant them in their inheritance.

8 Y además, de cierto os digo, radíquese en este lugar mi siervo Sidney Gilbert, y establezca un comercio para vender sin fraude mercancías, y obtener dinero, a fin de comprar terrenos para el beneficio de los santos, así como para obtener todo lo que necesiten los discípulos para establecerse en sus heredades.

9 And also let my servant Sidney Gilbert obtain a license—behold here is wisdom, and whoso readeth let him understand—that he may send goods also unto the people, even by whom he will as clerks employed in his service;

9 Y también obtenga una licencia mi siervo Sidney Gilbert—he aquí, en esto hay sabiduría, y el que lee, entienda—para enviar mercancías también a la gente, por conducto de quienes él determine, en calidad de empleados a su servicio;

10 And thus provide for my saints, that my gospel may be preached unto those who sit in darkness and in the region and shadow of death.

10 y de este modo suministre a mis santos, a fin de que se predique mi evangelio a los que se hallan en tinieblas y en la región de sombra de muerte.

11 And again, verily I say unto you, let my servant William W. Phelps be planted in this place, and be established as a printer unto the church.

11 Y además, de cierto os digo, radíquese en este lugar mi siervo William W. Phelps, y establézcase como impresor de la iglesia.

12 And lo, if the world receive his writings—behold here is wisdom—let him obtain whatsoever he can obtain in righteousness, for the good of the saints.

12 Y he aquí, si el mundo recibe sus escritos—en esto hay sabiduría—obtenga con rectitud lo que él pueda para el bien de los santos.

13 And let my servant Oliver Cowdery assist him, even as I have commanded, in whatsoever place I shall appoint unto him, to copy, and to correct, and select, that all things may be right before me, as it shall be proved by the Spirit through him.

13 Y ayúdele mi siervo Oliver Cowdery, tal como yo he mandado, en cualquier lugar que yo le indique, a copiar, corregir y seleccionar, para que todas las cosas sean rectas ante mí, y de acuerdo con lo que el Espíritu confirme por conducto de él.

14 And thus let those of whom I have spoken be planted in the land of Zion, as speedily as can be, with their families, to do those things even as I have spoken.

14 Y así establézcanse en la tierra de Sion aquellos de quienes he hablado, tan pronto como sea posible, junto con sus familias, para cumplir estas cosas tal como he hablado.

15 And now concerning the gathering—Let the bishop and the agent make preparations for those families which have been commanded to come to this land, as soon as possible, and plant them in their inheritance.

15 Y ahora, concerniente al recogimiento: Hagan los preparativos el obispo y el agente para aquellas familias a las cuales se ha mandado venir a esta tierra, tan rápidamente como sea posible, y establézcanlas en sus heredades.

16 And unto the residue of both elders and members further directions shall be given hereafter. Even so. Amen.

16 Y más tarde se darán instrucciones adicionales al resto de los élderes y de los miembros. Así sea. Amén.
