1 And again, we would suggest for your consideration the propriety of all the saints gathering up a knowledge of all the facts, and sufferings and abuses put upon them by the people of this State;

1 Además, sugerimos que consideréis la conveniencia de que todos los santos recopilen lo que sepan de todos los hechos, sufrimientos y abusos que les ha ocasionado el pueblo de este estado;

2 And also of all the property and amount of damages which they have sustained, both of character and personal injuries, as well as real property;

2 y también de todas las propiedades y el monto de los daños que han sufrido, tanto de reputación y lesiones personales, como de bienes raíces;

3 And also the names of all persons that have had a hand in their oppressions, as far as they can get hold of them and find them out.

3 y además, los nombres de todas las personas que hayan tomado parte en sus opresiones, hasta donde se puedan obtener y averiguar.

4 And perhaps a committee can be appointed to find out these things, and to take statements and affidavits; and also to gather up the libelous publications that are afloat;

4 Y tal vez se pueda nombrar a un comité para investigar estas cosas y recoger declaraciones y deposiciones, y también juntar las publicaciones difamatorias que circulan;

5 And all that are in the magazines, and in the encyclopedias, and all the libelous histories that are published, and are writing, and by whom, and present the whole concatenation of diabolical rascality and nefarious and murderous impositions that have been practiced upon this people—

5 y todas las que hay en las revistas y enciclopedias, así como todas las historias difamatorias ya publicadas y las que se están escribiendo, con sus autores, a fin de exponer la concatenación completa de perversidad diabólica e imposiciones nefarias y asesinas que se han cometido contra este pueblo,

6 That we may not only publish to all the world, but present them to the heads of government in all their dark and hellish hue, as the last effort which is enjoined on us by our Heavenly Father, before we can fully and completely claim that promise which shall call him forth from his hiding place; and also that the whole nation may be left without excuse before he can send forth the power of his mighty arm.

6 para no solamente publicarlas al mundo entero, sino para presentarlas a los jefes del gobierno en todo su aspecto tenebroso e infernal como el último esfuerzo que nuestro Padre Celestial nos ha mandado hacer, antes que podamos reclamar plena y cabalmente el cumplimiento de esa promesa que lo llamará de su morada oculta; y también para que toda la nación quede sin excusa, antes que él descargue la fuerza de su brazo poderoso.

7 It is an imperative duty that we owe to God, to angels, with whom we shall be brought to stand, and also to ourselves, to our wives and children, who have been made to bow down with grief, sorrow, and care, under the most damning hand of murder, tyranny, and oppression, supported and urged on and upheld by the influence of that spirit which hath so strongly riveted the creeds of the fathers, who have inherited lies, upon the hearts of the children, and filled the world with confusion, and has been growing stronger and stronger, and is now the very mainspring of all corruption, and the whole earth groans under the weight of its iniquity.

7 Es una obligación imperiosa que tenemos para con Dios y los ángeles, ante quienes nos presentaremos, así como para con nosotros mismos, nuestras esposas e hijos que han sido agobiados por la angustia, tristeza y congoja, bajo la mano más detestable del homicidio, la tiranía y la opresión, apoyados, incitados y sostenidos por la influencia de ese espíritu que tan fuertemente ha remachado los credos de los padres, quienes han heredado mentiras, en el corazón de los hijos, y ha llenado el mundo de confusión, y se ha estado haciendo cada vez más fuerte, y es ahora la fuente misma de toda corrupción, y la tierra entera gime bajo el peso de su iniquidad.

8 It is an iron yoke, it is a strong band; they are the very handcuffs, and chains, and shackles, and fetters of hell.

8 Es un yugo de hierro, una ligadura fuerte; son las esposas y cadenas, las ataduras y grilletes mismos del infierno.

9 Therefore it is an imperative duty that we owe, not only to our own wives and children, but to the widows and fatherless, whose husbands and fathers have been murdered under its iron hand;

9 De manera que es un deber imperioso que tenemos, no solo para con nuestras propias esposas e hijos, sino para con las viudas y los huérfanos, cuyos maridos y padres han sido asesinados bajo su mano de hierro,

10 Which dark and blackening deeds are enough to make hell itself shudder, and to stand aghast and pale, and the hands of the very devil to tremble and palsy.

10 hechos tenebrosos y envilecedores que son suficientes para hacer que el infierno mismo se estremezca y se quede despavorido y pálido, y que las manos del propio diablo tiemblen y se paralicen.

11 And also it is an imperative duty that we owe to all the rising generation, and to all the pure in heart—

11 Y además, es una obligación imperiosa que tenemos para con la generación que va creciendo y para con todos los puros de corazón;

12 For there are many yet on the earth among all sects, parties, and denominations, who are blinded by the subtle craftiness of men, whereby they lie in wait to deceive, and who are only kept from the truth because they know not where to find it—

12 porque todavía hay muchos en la tierra, entre todas las sectas, partidos y denominaciones, que son cegados por la sutil astucia de los hombres que acechan para engañar, y no llegan a la verdad solo porque no saben dónde hallarla;

13 Therefore, that we should waste and wear out our lives in bringing to light all the hidden things of darkness, wherein we know them; and they are truly manifest from heaven—

13 por lo tanto, consumamos y agotemos nuestras vidas dando a conocer todas las cosas ocultas de las tinieblas, hasta donde las sepamos; y en verdad estas se manifiestan de los cielos;

14 These should then be attended to with great earnestness.

14 de manera que se debe atender a estas cosas con gran diligencia.

15 Let no man count them as small things; for there is much which lieth in futurity, pertaining to the saints, which depends upon these things.

15 Ningún hombre las considere como cosas pequeñas, porque hay mucho en lo futuro, perteneciente a los santos, que depende de estas cosas.

16 You know, brethren, that a very large ship is benefited very much by a very small helm in the time of a storm, by being kept workways with the wind and the waves.

16 Hermanos, vosotros sabéis que un barco muy grande se beneficia mucho en una tempestad, con un timón pequeño que lo acomoda al vaivén del viento y de las olas.

17 Therefore, dearly beloved brethren, let us cheerfully do all things that lie in our power; and then may we stand still, with the utmost assurance, to see the salvation of God, and for his arm to be revealed.

17 Por tanto, muy queridos hermanos, hagamos con buen ánimo cuanta cosa esté a nuestro alcance; y entonces podremos permanecer tranquilos, con la más completa seguridad, para ver la salvación de Dios y que se revele su brazo.
