1 O God, where art thou? And where is the pavilion that covereth thy hiding place?

1 Oh Dios, ¿en dónde estás? ¿Y dónde está el pabellón que cubre tu morada oculta?

2 How long shall thy hand be stayed, and thine eye, yea thy pure eye, behold from the eternal heavens the wrongs of thy people and of thy servants, and thine ear be penetrated with their cries?

2 ¿Hasta cuándo se detendrá tu mano, y tu ojo, sí, tu ojo puro, contemplará desde los cielos eternos los agravios de tu pueblo y de tus siervos, y penetrarán sus lamentos en tus oídos?

3 Yea, O Lord, how long shall they suffer these wrongs and unlawful oppressions, before thine heart shall be softened toward them, and thy bowels be moved with compassion toward them?

3 Sí, oh Señor, ¿hasta cuándo sufrirán estas injurias y opresiones ilícitas, antes que tu corazón se ablande y tus entrañas se llenen de compasión por ellos?

4 O Lord God Almighty, maker of heaven, earth, and seas, and of all things that in them are, and who controllest and subjectest the devil, and the dark and benighted dominion of Sheol—stretch forth thy hand; let thine eye pierce; let thy pavilion be taken up; let thy hiding place no longer be covered; let thine ear be inclined; let thine heart be softened, and thy bowels moved with compassion toward us.

4 Oh Señor Dios Todopoderoso, Creador de los cielos, la tierra, los mares y cuantas cosas hay en ellos, que dominas y sometes al diablo, y al obscuro y tenebroso dominio del Seol, extiende tu mano; deja que tu ojo penetre; que tu pabellón se descorra; que ya no quede cubierta tu morada oculta por más tiempo; inclínese tu oído; ablándese tu corazón y conmuévanse tus entrañas de compasión por nosotros.

5 Let thine anger be kindled against our enemies; and, in the fury of thine heart, with thy sword avenge us of our wrongs.

5 Permite que tu enojo se encienda en contra de nuestros enemigos; y en el furor de tu corazón, vénganos de nuestras injurias con tu espada.

6 Remember thy suffering saints, O our God; and thy servants will rejoice in thy name forever.

6 Acuérdate de tus santos que sufren, oh Dios nuestro, y tus siervos se regocijarán en tu nombre para siempre.

7 My son, peace be unto thy soul; thine adversity and thine afflictions shall be but a small moment;

7 Hijo mío, paz a tu alma; tu adversidad y tus aflicciones no serán más que por un breve momento;

8 And then, if thou endure it well, God shall exalt thee on high; thou shalt triumph over all thy foes.

8 y entonces, si lo sobrellevas bien, Dios te exaltará; triunfarás sobre todos tus enemigos.

9 Thy friends do stand by thee, and they shall hail thee again with warm hearts and friendly hands.

9 Tus amigos te sostienen, y te saludarán de nuevo con corazones fervientes y manos amistosas.

10 Thou art not yet as Job; thy friends do not contend against thee, neither charge thee with transgression, as they did Job.

10 No eres aún como Job; no contienden en contra de ti tus amigos, ni te acusan de transgredir, como hicieron con Job.

11 And they who do charge thee with transgression, their hope shall be blasted, and their prospects shall melt away as the hoar frost melteth before the burning rays of the rising sun;

11 La esperanza de los que te acusan de transgresión será deshecha, y sus maquinaciones se disiparán como desaparece la escarcha ante los cálidos rayos del sol naciente;

12 And also that God hath set his hand and seal to change the times and seasons, and to blind their minds, that they may not understand his marvelous workings; that he may prove them also and take them in their own craftiness;

12 y también Dios ha fijado su mano y sello para mudar los tiempos y las estaciones, y ofuscar sus mentes para que no entiendan sus obras maravillosas; para que los pruebe y los sorprenda en su propia astucia;

13 Also because their hearts are corrupted, and the things which they are willing to bring upon others, and love to have others suffer, may come upon themselves to the very uttermost;

13 también porque sus corazones se han corrompido, y para que las cosas que quieren ocasionar a otros, y se deleitan en que otros las padezcan, les sobrevengan a ellos mismos en grado sumo;

14 That they may be disappointed also, and their hopes may be cut off;

14 a fin de que también se vean frustrados y se desvanezcan sus esperanzas;

15 And not many years hence, that they and their posterity shall be swept from under heaven, saith God, that not one of them is left to stand by the wall.

15 y de aquí a pocos años, ellos y su posteridad serán arrasados de debajo de los cielos, dice Dios, que no quedará ni uno de ellos para estar junto al muro.

16 Cursed are all those that shall lift up the heel against mine anointed, saith the Lord, and cry they have sinned when they have not sinned before me, saith the Lord, but have done that which was meet in mine eyes, and which I commanded them.

16 Malditos sean todos los que alcen el calcañar contra mis ungidos, dice el Señor, clamando que han pecado cuando no pecaron delante de mí, antes hicieron lo que era propio a mis ojos y lo que yo les mandé, dice el Señor.

17 But those who cry transgression do it because they are the servants of sin, and are the children of disobedience themselves.

17 Mas los que claman transgresión lo hacen porque son siervos del pecado, y ellos mismos son hijos de la desobediencia.

18 And those who swear falsely against my servants, that they might bring them into bondage and death—

18 Y los que juran falsamente contra mis siervos para causarles la servidumbre y la muerte,

19 Wo unto them; because they have offended my little ones they shall be severed from the ordinances of mine house.

19 ¡ay de ellos!; por haber ofendido a mis pequeñitos serán vedados de las ordenanzas de mi casa.

20 Their basket shall not be full, their houses and their barns shall perish, and they themselves shall be despised by those that flattered them.

20 Su cesta no se llenará, sus casas y graneros desaparecerán, y ellos mismos serán odiados de quienes los lisonjeaban.

21 They shall not have right to the priesthood, nor their posterity after them from generation to generation.

21 No tendrán derecho al sacerdocio, ni su posteridad después de ellos de generación en generación.

22 It had been better for them that a millstone had been hanged about their necks, and they drowned in the depth of the sea.

22 Mejor les hubiera sido que se les hubiera colgado una piedra de molino al cuello, y se hubieran ahogado en lo profundo del mar.

23 Wo unto all those that discomfort my people, and drive, and murder, and testify against them, saith the Lord of Hosts; a generation of vipers shall not escape the damnation of hell.

23 ¡Ay de todos aquellos que molestan a los de mi pueblo, y los acosan, y asesinan, y testifican contra ellos, dice el Señor de las Huestes! La generación de víboras no se escapará de la condenación del infierno.

24 Behold, mine eyes see and know all their works, and I have in reserve a swift judgment in the season thereof, for them all;

24 He aquí, mis ojos ven y conocen todas sus obras, y tengo reservado en su sazón un juicio repentino para todos ellos;

25 For there is a time appointed for every man, according as his works shall be.

25 porque para cada hombre hay una hora señalada, de acuerdo con sus obras.

26 God shall give unto you knowledge by his Holy Spirit, yea, by the unspeakable gift of the Holy Ghost, that has not been revealed since the world was until now;

26 Dios os dará conocimiento por medio de su Santo Espíritu, sí, por el inefable don del Espíritu Santo, conocimiento que no se ha revelado desde el principio del mundo hasta ahora;

27 Which our forefathers have awaited with anxious expectation to be revealed in the last times, which their minds were pointed to by the angels, as held in reserve for the fulness of their glory;

27 el cual nuestros antepasados con ansiosa expectativa han aguardado a que se revelara en los postreros tiempos, hacia los cuales sus mentes fueron orientadas por los ángeles, como que se hallaba reservado para la plenitud de su gloria;

28 A time to come in the which nothing shall be withheld, whether there be one God or many gods, they shall be manifest.

28 una ocasión futura en la que nada se retendrá, sea que haya un Dios o muchos dioses, serán manifestados.

29 All thrones and dominions, principalities and powers, shall be revealed and set forth upon all who have endured valiantly for the gospel of Jesus Christ.

29 Todos los tronos y dominios, principados y potestades, serán revelados y señalados a todos los que valientemente hayan perseverado en el evangelio de Jesucristo.

30 And also, if there be bounds set to the heavens or to the seas, or to the dry land, or to the sun, moon, or stars—

30 Y también, si se han fijado límites a los cielos, los mares o la tierra seca, o el sol, la luna o las estrellas,

31 All the times of their revolutions, all the appointed days, months, and years, and all the days of their days, months, and years, and all their glories, laws, and set times, shall be revealed in the days of the dispensation of the fulness of times—

31 todos los tiempos de sus revoluciones, todos los días, meses y años señalados; y todos los días de sus días, meses y años, y todas sus glorias, leyes y tiempos fijos, serán revelados en los días de la dispensación del cumplimiento de los tiempos,

32 According to that which was ordained in the midst of the Council of the Eternal God of all other gods before this world was, that should be reserved unto the finishing and the end thereof, when every man shall enter into his eternal presence and into his immortal rest.

32 conforme con lo decretado en medio del Concilio del Dios Eterno de todos los otros dioses, antes que este mundo fuese, que habría de reservarse para su cumplimiento y fin, cuando todo hombre ha de entrar en su eterna presencia y en su reposo inmortal.

33 How long can rolling waters remain impure? What power shall stay the heavens? As well might man stretch forth his puny arm to stop the Missouri river in its decreed course, or to turn it up stream, as to hinder the Almighty from pouring down knowledge from heaven upon the heads of the Latter-day Saints.

33 ¿Hasta cuándo pueden permanecer impuras las aguas que corren? ¿Qué poder hay que detenga los cielos? Tan inútil le sería al hombre extender su débil brazo para contener el río Misuri en su curso decretado, o volverlo hacia atrás, como evitar que el Todopoderoso derrame conocimiento desde el cielo sobre la cabeza de los Santos de los Últimos Días.

34 Behold, there are many called, but few are chosen. And why are they not chosen?

34 He aquí, muchos son los llamados, y pocos los escogidos. ¿Y por qué no son escogidos?

35 Because their hearts are set so much upon the things of this world, and aspire to the honors of men, that they do not learn this one lesson—

35 Porque a tal grado han puesto su corazón en las cosas de este mundo, y aspiran tanto a los honores de los hombres, que no aprenden esta lección única:

36 That the rights of the priesthood are inseparably connected with the powers of heaven, and that the powers of heaven cannot be controlled nor handled only upon the principles of righteousness.

36 Que los derechos del sacerdocio están inseparablemente unidos a los poderes del cielo, y que estos no pueden ser gobernados ni manejados sino conforme a los principios de la rectitud.

37 That they may be conferred upon us, it is true; but when we undertake to cover our sins, or to gratify our pride, our vain ambition, or to exercise control or dominion or compulsion upon the souls of the children of men, in any degree of unrighteousness, behold, the heavens withdraw themselves; the Spirit of the Lord is grieved; and when it is withdrawn, Amen to the priesthood or the authority of that man.

37 Es cierto que se nos pueden conferir; pero cuando intentamos encubrir nuestros pecados, o satisfacer nuestro orgullo, nuestra vana ambición, o ejercer mando, dominio o compulsión sobre las almas de los hijos de los hombres, en cualquier grado de injusticia, he aquí, los cielos se retiran, el Espíritu del Señor es ofendido, y cuando se aparta, se acabó el sacerdocio o autoridad de tal hombre.

38 Behold, ere he is aware, he is left unto himself, to kick against the pricks, to persecute the saints, and to fight against God.

38 He aquí, antes que se dé cuenta, queda abandonado a sí mismo para dar coces contra el aguijón, para perseguir a los santos y combatir contra Dios.

39 We have learned by sad experience that it is the nature and disposition of almost all men, as soon as they get a little authority, as they suppose, they will immediately begin to exercise unrighteous dominion.

39 Hemos aprendido, por tristes experiencias, que la naturaleza y disposición de casi todos los hombres, en cuanto reciben un poco de autoridad, como ellos suponen, es comenzar inmediatamente a ejercer injusto dominio.

40 Hence many are called, but few are chosen.

40 Por tanto, muchos son llamados, pero pocos son escogidos.

41 No power or influence can or ought to be maintained by virtue of the priesthood, only by persuasion, by long-suffering, by gentleness and meekness, and by love unfeigned;

41 Ningún poder o influencia se puede ni se debe mantener en virtud del sacerdocio, sino por persuasión, por longanimidad, benignidad, mansedumbre y por amor sincero;

42 By kindness, and pure knowledge, which shall greatly enlarge the soul without hypocrisy, and without guile—

42 por bondad y por conocimiento puro, lo cual engrandecerá en gran manera el alma sin hipocresía y sin malicia;

43 Reproving betimes with sharpness, when moved upon by the Holy Ghost; and then showing forth afterwards an increase of love toward him whom thou hast reproved, lest he esteem thee to be his enemy;

43 reprendiendo en el momento oportuno con severidad, cuando lo induzca el Espíritu Santo; y entonces demostrando mayor amor hacia el que has reprendido, no sea que te considere su enemigo;

44 That he may know that thy faithfulness is stronger than the cords of death.

44 para que sepa que tu fidelidad es más fuerte que los lazos de la muerte.

45 Let thy bowels also be full of charity towards all men, and to the household of faith, and let virtue garnish thy thoughts unceasingly; then shall thy confidence wax strong in the presence of God; and the doctrine of the priesthood shall distil upon thy soul as the dews from heaven.

45 Deja también que tus entrañas se llenen de caridad para con todos los hombres, y para con los de la familia de la fe, y deja que la virtud engalane tus pensamientos incesantemente; entonces tu confianza se fortalecerá en la presencia de Dios; y la doctrina del sacerdocio destilará sobre tu alma como rocío del cielo.

46 The Holy Ghost shall be thy constant companion, and thy scepter an unchanging scepter of righteousness and truth; and thy dominion shall be an everlasting dominion, and without compulsory means it shall flow unto thee forever and ever.

46 El Espíritu Santo será tu compañero constante, y tu cetro, un cetro inmutable de justicia y de verdad; y tu dominio será un dominio eterno, y sin ser compelido fluirá hacia ti para siempre jamás.
