1 Verily I say unto you who have assembled yourselves together that you may learn my will concerning the redemption of mine afflicted people—

1 De cierto os digo a vosotros que os habéis congregado para saber mi voluntad en cuanto a la redención de mi pueblo afligido:

2 Behold, I say unto you, were it not for the transgressions of my people, speaking concerning the church and not individuals, they might have been redeemed even now.

2 He aquí, os digo que si no fuera por las transgresiones de mi pueblo, en lo que a la iglesia respecta, y no a individuos, bien habrían sido redimidos ya.

3 But behold, they have not learned to be obedient to the things which I required at their hands, but are full of all manner of evil, and do not impart of their substance, as becometh saints, to the poor and afflicted among them;

3 Pero he aquí, no han aprendido a ser obedientes en las cosas que requerí de sus manos, sino que están llenos de toda clase de iniquidad, y no dan de sus bienes a los pobres ni a los afligidos entre ellos, como corresponde a los santos;

4 And are not united according to the union required by the law of the celestial kingdom;

4 ni están unidos conforme a la unión que requiere la ley del reino celestial;

5 And Zion cannot be built up unless it is by the principles of the law of the celestial kingdom; otherwise I cannot receive her unto myself.

5 y no se puede edificar a Sion sino de acuerdo con los principios de la ley del reino celestial; de otra manera, no la puedo recibir para mí mismo.

6 And my people must needs be chastened until they learn obedience, if it must needs be, by the things which they suffer.

6 Y es necesario que mi pueblo sea disciplinado hasta que aprenda la obediencia, si es menester, por las cosas que padece.

7 I speak not concerning those who are appointed to lead my people, who are the first elders of my church, for they are not all under this condemnation;

7 No hablo de aquellos que son designados para guiar a mi pueblo, los cuales son los primeros élderes de mi iglesia, porque no todos ellos están bajo esta condenación;

8 But I speak concerning my churches abroad—there are many who will say: Where is their God? Behold, he will deliver them in time of trouble, otherwise we will not go up unto Zion, and will keep our moneys.

8 sino hablo de mis iglesias fuera de aquí. Hay muchos que dirán: ¿Dónde está su Dios? He aquí, los librará en la hora de dificultad, de lo contrario, no subiremos a Sion y retendremos nuestro dinero.

9 Therefore, in consequence of the transgressions of my people, it is expedient in me that mine elders should wait for a little season for the redemption of Zion—

9 Por tanto, a causa de las transgresiones de mi pueblo, me conviene que mis élderes esperen un corto tiempo la redención de Sion;

10 That they themselves may be prepared, and that my people may be taught more perfectly, and have experience, and know more perfectly concerning their duty, and the things which I require at their hands.

10 para que ellos mismos se preparen, y mi pueblo sea instruido con mayor perfección, y adquiera experiencia, y sepa más cabalmente lo concerniente a su deber y a las cosas que de sus manos requiero;

11 And this cannot be brought to pass until mine elders are endowed with power from on high.

11 y esto no puede llevarse a cabo sino hasta que mis élderes sean investidos con poder de lo alto.

12 For behold, I have prepared a great endowment and blessing to be poured out upon them, inasmuch as they are faithful and continue in humility before me.

12 Pues he aquí, he preparado una magna investidura y bendición que derramaré sobre ellos, si son fieles y siguen siendo humildes delante de mí.

13 Therefore it is expedient in me that mine elders should wait for a little season, for the redemption of Zion.

13 De modo que me conviene que mis élderes esperen un corto tiempo la redención de Sion.

14 For behold, I do not require at their hands to fight the battles of Zion; for, as I said in a former commandment, even so will I fulfil—I will fight your battles.

14 Porque he aquí, no exijo de sus manos que peleen las batallas de Sion, pues como dije en un mandamiento anterior—y así cumpliré—yo pelearé vuestras batallas.

15 Behold, the destroyer I have sent forth to destroy and lay waste mine enemies; and not many years hence they shall not be left to pollute mine heritage, and to blaspheme my name upon the lands which I have consecrated for the gathering together of my saints.

15 He aquí, yo he enviado al destructor para deshacer y asolar a mis enemigos; y de aquí a muy pocos años no quedarán para profanar mi heredad, ni para blasfemar mi nombre en las tierras que he consagrado para el recogimiento de mis santos.

16 Behold, I have commanded my servant Joseph Smith, Jun., to say unto the strength of my house, even my warriors, my young men, and middle-aged, to gather together for the redemption of my people, and throw down the towers of mine enemies, and scatter their watchmen;

16 He aquí, he mandado a mi siervo José Smith, hijo, decir a la fuerza de mi casa, sí, mis guerreros, mis jóvenes y los de edad madura, que se junten para redimir a mi pueblo, volcar las torres de mis enemigos y esparcir a sus atalayas;

17 But the strength of mine house have not hearkened unto my words.

17 mas la fuerza de mi casa no ha escuchado mis palabras.

18 But inasmuch as there are those who have hearkened unto my words, I have prepared a blessing and an endowment for them, if they continue faithful.

18 Pero ya que hay algunos que han atendido a mis palabras, he preparado una bendición e investidura para ellos, si continúan fieles.

19 I have heard their prayers, and will accept their offering; and it is expedient in me that they should be brought thus far for a trial of their faith.

19 He oído sus oraciones y aceptaré su ofrenda; y me es menester traerlos hasta este punto para poner a prueba su fe.

20 And now, verily I say unto you, a commandment I give unto you, that as many as have come up hither, that can stay in the region round about, let them stay;

20 Ahora de cierto os digo, un mandamiento os doy: De los que han venido hasta acá, quédense en estas regiones cuantos puedan hacerlo;

21 And those that cannot stay, who have families in the east, let them tarry for a little season, inasmuch as my servant Joseph shall appoint unto them;

21 y aquellos que no puedan quedarse, que tengan familia en el este, quédense por una corta temporada conforme a lo que les indique mi siervo José;

22 For I will counsel him concerning this matter, and all things whatsoever he shall appoint unto them shall be fulfilled.

22 porque yo lo aconsejaré en cuanto a este asunto, y todas las cosas que él les declare serán cumplidas.

23 And let all my people who dwell in the regions round about be very faithful, and prayerful, and humble before me, and reveal not the things which I have revealed unto them, until it is wisdom in me that they should be revealed.

23 Sea muy fiel, devoto en sus oraciones y humilde ante mí todo mi pueblo que mora en las regiones contiguas, y no dé a conocer las cosas que le he revelado, hasta que yo juzgue prudente que sean reveladas.

24 Talk not of judgments, neither boast of faith nor of mighty works, but carefully gather together, as much in one region as can be, consistently with the feelings of the people;

24 No habléis de juicios ni os jactéis de vuestra fe y obras poderosas, sino congregaos cuidadosamente, cuantos podáis, en una región, según el sentimiento del pueblo lo permita;

25 And behold, I will give unto you favor and grace in their eyes, that you may rest in peace and safety, while you are saying unto the people: Execute judgment and justice for us according to law, and redress us of our wrongs.

25 y he aquí, os daré favor y gracia ante los ojos de los del pueblo, a fin de que gocéis de paz y seguridad mientras les decís: Juzgad y hacednos justicia conforme a la ley, y recompensadnos por nuestros ultrajes.

26 Now, behold, I say unto you, my friends, in this way you may find favor in the eyes of the people, until the army of Israel becomes very great.

26 He aquí, os digo, mis amigos, de esta manera hallaréis gracia ante los ojos del pueblo, hasta que el ejército de Israel llegue a ser muy grande.

27 And I will soften the hearts of the people, as I did the heart of Pharaoh, from time to time, until my servant Joseph Smith, Jun., and mine elders, whom I have appointed, shall have time to gather up the strength of my house,

27 Y ablandaré el corazón del pueblo, de cuando en cuando, como ablandé el corazón de Faraón, hasta que mi siervo José Smith, hijo, y mis élderes, a quienes he nombrado, tengan tiempo para reunir la fuerza de mi casa,

28 And to have sent wise men, to fulfil that which I have commanded concerning the purchasing of all the lands in Jackson county that can be purchased, and in the adjoining counties round about.

28 y para enviar hombres sabios a cumplir lo que he mandado concerniente a la compra de todos los terrenos que se puedan adquirir en el condado de Jackson, así como en los contiguos.

29 For it is my will that these lands should be purchased; and after they are purchased that my saints should possess them according to the laws of consecration which I have given.

29 Porque es mi voluntad que se compren estos terrenos y, ya adquiridos, que mis santos los posean de acuerdo con las leyes de consagración que he dado.

30 And after these lands are purchased, I will hold the armies of Israel guiltless in taking possession of their own lands, which they have previously purchased with their moneys, and of throwing down the towers of mine enemies that may be upon them, and scattering their watchmen, and avenging me of mine enemies unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me.

30 Y después que se compren estos terrenos, no tendré por culpables a los ejércitos de Israel si toman posesión de sus propios terrenos que previamente compraron con su dinero, si derriban las torres de mis enemigos que estén sobre ellos, y esparcen a sus atalayas, y me vengan de mis enemigos hasta la tercera y la cuarta generación de los que me odian.

31 But first let my army become very great, and let it be sanctified before me, that it may become fair as the sun, and clear as the moon, and that her banners may be terrible unto all nations;

31 Pero primero hágase mi ejército muy numeroso, y santifíquese delante de mí, para que llegue a ser resplandeciente como el sol, claro como la luna y sean sus pendones imponentes a los ojos de todas las naciones;

32 That the kingdoms of this world may be constrained to acknowledge that the kingdom of Zion is in very deed the kingdom of our God and his Christ; therefore, let us become subject unto her laws.

32 para que los reinos de este mundo se vean constreñidos a reconocer que el reino de Sion es de hecho el reino de nuestro Dios y su Cristo; sujetémonos, pues, a sus leyes.

33 Verily I say unto you, it is expedient in me that the first elders of my church should receive their endowment from on high in my house, which I have commanded to be built unto my name in the land of Kirtland.

33 De cierto os digo, me es oportuno que los primeros élderes de mi iglesia reciban su investidura de lo alto en mi casa, la cual he mandado edificar a mi nombre en la tierra de Kirtland;

34 And let those commandments which I have given concerning Zion and her law be executed and fulfilled, after her redemption.

34 y que los mandamientos que he dado en cuanto a Sion y su ley se ejecuten y se cumplan después de su redención.

35 There has been a day of calling, but the time has come for a day of choosing; and let those be chosen that are worthy.

35 Hubo un día para llamar, pero ha llegado la hora de que haya un día para escoger; y escójase a los que son dignos.

36 And it shall be manifest unto my servant, by the voice of the Spirit, those that are chosen; and they shall be sanctified;

36 Y le será manifestado a mi siervo, por la voz del Espíritu, quiénes son los escogidos; y serán santificados;

37 And inasmuch as they follow the counsel which they receive, they shall have power after many days to accomplish all things pertaining to Zion.

37 y si obedecen el consejo que reciben, tendrán el poder de hacer todas las cosas que atañen a Sion, después de muchos días.

38 And again I say unto you, sue for peace, not only to the people that have smitten you, but also to all people;

38 De nuevo os digo, proponed la paz, no solamente a la gente que os ha afligido, sino a todos;

39 And lift up an ensign of peace, and make a proclamation of peace unto the ends of the earth;

39 e izad un estandarte de paz, y proclamad la paz hasta los extremos de la tierra.

40 And make proposals for peace unto those who have smitten you, according to the voice of the Spirit which is in you, and all things shall work together for your good.

40 Proponed la paz a los que os han afligido, conforme a la voz del Espíritu que esté en vosotros, y todas las cosas obrarán juntamente para vuestro bienestar.

41 Therefore, be faithful; and behold, and lo, I am with you even unto the end. Even so. Amen.

41 Por tanto, sed fieles; y he aquí, mirad, estoy con vosotros hasta el fin. Así sea. Amén.
