1 Hearken, O ye people of my church, saith the voice of him who dwells on high, and whose eyes are upon all men; yea, verily I say: Hearken ye people from afar; and ye that are upon the islands of the sea, listen together.

1 Escuchad, oh pueblo de mi iglesia, dice la voz de aquel que mora en las alturas, y cuyos ojos están sobre todos los hombres; sí, de cierto digo: Escuchad, pueblos lejanos; y vosotros los que estáis sobre las islas del mar, oíd juntamente.

2 For verily the voice of the Lord is unto all men, and there is none to escape; and there is no eye that shall not see, neither ear that shall not hear, neither heart that shall not be penetrated.

2 Porque, en verdad, la voz del Señor se dirige a todo hombre, y no hay quien escape; ni habrá ojo que no vea, ni oído que no oiga, ni corazón que no sea penetrado.

3 And the rebellious shall be pierced with much sorrow; for their iniquities shall be spoken upon the housetops, and their secret acts shall be revealed.

3 Y los rebeldes serán traspasados de mucho pesar; porque se pregonarán sus iniquidades desde los techos de las casas, y sus hechos secretos serán revelados.

4 And the voice of warning shall be unto all people, by the mouths of my disciples, whom I have chosen in these last days.

4 Y la voz de amonestación irá a todo pueblo por boca de mis discípulos, a quienes he escogido en estos últimos días.

5 And they shall go forth and none shall stay them, for I the Lord have commanded them.

5 E irán y no habrá quien los detenga, porque yo, el Señor, los he mandado.

6 Behold, this is mine authority, and the authority of my servants, and my preface unto the book of my commandments, which I have given them to publish unto you, O inhabitants of the earth.

6 He aquí, esta es mi autoridad y la autoridad de mis siervos, así como mi prefacio para el libro de mis mandamientos que les he dado para que os sea publicado, oh habitantes de la tierra.

7 Wherefore, fear and tremble, O ye people, for what I the Lord have decreed in them shall be fulfilled.

7 Por tanto, temed y temblad, oh pueblo, porque se cumplirá lo que yo, el Señor, he decretado en ellos.

8 And verily I say unto you, that they who go forth, bearing these tidings unto the inhabitants of the earth, to them is power given to seal both on earth and in heaven, the unbelieving and rebellious;

8 Y de cierto os digo, que a los que salgan para llevar estas nuevas a los habitantes de la tierra, les es dado poder para sellar, tanto en la tierra como en el cielo, al incrédulo y al rebelde;

9 Yea, verily, to seal them up unto the day when the wrath of God shall be poured out upon the wicked without measure—

9 sí, en verdad, sellarlos para el día en que la ira de Dios sea derramada sin medida sobre los malvados;

10 Unto the day when the Lord shall come to recompense unto every man according to his work, and measure to every man according to the measure which he has measured to his fellow man.

10 para el día en que el Señor venga a recompensar a cada hombre según sus obras, y medir a cada cual con la medida con que haya medido a su prójimo.

11 Wherefore the voice of the Lord is unto the ends of the earth, that all that will hear may hear:

11 Por tanto, la voz del Señor habla hasta los extremos de la tierra, para que oigan todos los que quieran oír:

12 Prepare ye, prepare ye for that which is to come, for the Lord is nigh;

12 Preparaos, preparaos para lo que ha de venir, porque el Señor está cerca;

13 And the anger of the Lord is kindled, and his sword is bathed in heaven, and it shall fall upon the inhabitants of the earth.

13 y la ira del Señor está encendida, y su espada es limpiada en el cielo y caerá sobre los habitantes de la tierra.

14 And the arm of the Lord shall be revealed; and the day cometh that they who will not hear the voice of the Lord, neither the voice of his servants, neither give heed to the words of the prophets and apostles, shall be cut off from among the people;

14 Y será revelado el brazo del Señor; y vendrá el día en que aquellos que no oyeren la voz del Señor, ni la voz de sus siervos, ni prestaren atención a las palabras de los profetas y apóstoles, serán desarraigados de entre el pueblo;

15 For they have strayed from mine ordinances, and have broken mine everlasting covenant;

15 porque se han desviado de mis ordenanzas y han violado mi convenio sempiterno.

16 They seek not the Lord to establish his righteousness, but every man walketh in his own way, and after the image of his own god, whose image is in the likeness of the world, and whose substance is that of an idol, which waxeth old and shall perish in Babylon, even Babylon the great, which shall fall.

16 No buscan al Señor para establecer su justicia, antes todo hombre anda por su propio camino, y en pos de la imagen de su propio dios, cuya imagen es a semejanza del mundo y cuya substancia es la de un ídolo que se envejece y perecerá en Babilonia, sí, Babilonia la grande que caerá.

17 Wherefore, I the Lord, knowing the calamity which should come upon the inhabitants of the earth, called upon my servant Joseph Smith, Jun., and spake unto him from heaven, and gave him commandments;

17 Por tanto, yo, el Señor, sabiendo las calamidades que sobrevendrían a los habitantes de la tierra, llamé a mi siervo José Smith, hijo, y le hablé desde los cielos y le di mandamientos;

18 And also gave commandments to others, that they should proclaim these things unto the world; and all this that it might be fulfilled, which was written by the prophets—

18 y también a otros di mandamientos de proclamar estas cosas al mundo; y todo esto para que se cumpliese lo que escribieron los profetas:

19 The weak things of the world shall come forth and break down the mighty and strong ones, that man should not counsel his fellow man, neither trust in the arm of flesh—

19 Lo débil del mundo vendrá y abatirá lo fuerte y poderoso, para que el hombre no aconseje a su prójimo, ni ponga su confianza en el brazo de la carne;

20 But that every man might speak in the name of God the Lord, even the Savior of the world;

20 sino que todo hombre hable en el nombre de Dios el Señor, el Salvador del mundo;

21 That faith also might increase in the earth;

21 para que también la fe aumente en la tierra;

22 That mine everlasting covenant might be established;

22 para que se establezca mi convenio sempiterno;

23 That the fulness of my gospel might be proclaimed by the weak and the simple unto the ends of the world, and before kings and rulers.

23 para que la plenitud de mi evangelio sea proclamada por los débiles y sencillos hasta los cabos de la tierra, y ante reyes y gobernantes.

24 Behold, I am God and have spoken it; these commandments are of me, and were given unto my servants in their weakness, after the manner of their language, that they might come to understanding.

24 He aquí, soy Dios, y lo he declarado; estos mandamientos son míos, y se dieron a mis siervos en su debilidad, según su manera de hablar, para que alcanzasen entendimiento;

25 And inasmuch as they erred it might be made known;

25 y para que cuando errasen, fuese manifestado;

26 And inasmuch as they sought wisdom they might be instructed;

26 y para que cuando buscasen sabiduría, fuesen instruidos;

27 And inasmuch as they sinned they might be chastened, that they might repent;

27 y para que cuando pecasen, fueran disciplinados para que se arrepintieran;

28 And inasmuch as they were humble they might be made strong, and blessed from on high, and receive knowledge from time to time.

28 y para que cuando fuesen humildes, fuesen fortalecidos y bendecidos desde lo alto, y recibieran conocimiento de cuando en cuando.

29 And after having received the record of the Nephites, yea, even my servant Joseph Smith, Jun., might have power to translate through the mercy of God, by the power of God, the Book of Mormon.

29 Y para que mi siervo José Smith, hijo, después de haber recibido los anales de los nefitas, tuviera el poder para traducir el Libro de Mormón mediante la misericordia y el poder de Dios.

30 And also those to whom these commandments were given, might have power to lay the foundation of this church, and to bring it forth out of obscurity and out of darkness, the only true and living church upon the face of the whole earth, with which I, the Lord, am well pleased, speaking unto the church collectively and not individually—

30 Y también, para que aquellos a quienes se dieron estos mandamientos tuviesen el poder para establecer los cimientos de esta iglesia y de hacerla salir de la obscuridad y de las tinieblas, la única iglesia verdadera y viviente sobre la faz de toda la tierra, con la cual yo, el Señor, estoy bien complacido, hablando a la iglesia colectiva y no individualmente,

31 For I the Lord cannot look upon sin with the least degree of allowance;

31 porque yo, el Señor, no puedo considerar el pecado con el más mínimo grado de tolerancia.

32 Nevertheless, he that repents and does the commandments of the Lord shall be forgiven;

32 No obstante, el que se arrepienta y cumpla los mandamientos del Señor será perdonado;

33 And he that repents not, from him shall be taken even the light which he has received; for my Spirit shall not always strive with man, saith the Lord of Hosts.

33 y al que no se arrepienta, le será quitada aun la luz que haya recibido; porque mi Espíritu no luchará siempre con el hombre, dice el Señor de los Ejércitos.

34 And again, verily I say unto you, O inhabitants of the earth: I the Lord am willing to make these things known unto all flesh;

34 Y de nuevo, de cierto os digo, oh habitantes de la tierra: Yo, el Señor, estoy dispuesto a hacer saber estas cosas a toda carne;

35 For I am no respecter of persons, and will that all men shall know that the day speedily cometh; the hour is not yet, but is nigh at hand, when peace shall be taken from the earth, and the devil shall have power over his own dominion.

35 porque no hago acepción de personas, y quiero que todo hombre sepa que el día viene con rapidez; la hora no es aún, mas está próxima, cuando la paz será quitada de la tierra, y el diablo tendrá poder sobre su propio dominio.

36 And also the Lord shall have power over his saints, and shall reign in their midst, and shall come down in judgment upon Idumea, or the world.

36 Y también el Señor tendrá poder sobre sus santos, y reinará en medio de ellos, y bajará en juicio sobre Idumea, o sea, el mundo.

37 Search these commandments, for they are true and faithful, and the prophecies and promises which are in them shall all be fulfilled.

37 Escudriñad estos mandamientos porque son verdaderos y fidedignos, y las profecías y promesas que contienen se cumplirán todas.

38 What I the Lord have spoken, I have spoken, and I excuse not myself; and though the heavens and the earth pass away, my word shall not pass away, but shall all be fulfilled, whether by mine own voice or by the voice of my servants, it is the same.

38 Lo que yo, el Señor, he dicho, yo lo he dicho, y no me disculpo; y aunque pasaren los cielos y la tierra, mi palabra no pasará, sino que toda será cumplida, sea por mi propia voz o por la voz de mis siervos, es lo mismo.

39 For behold, and lo, the Lord is God, and the Spirit beareth record, and the record is true, and the truth abideth forever and ever. Amen.

39 Porque he aquí, el Señor es Dios, y el Espíritu da testimonio, y el testimonio es verdadero, y la verdad permanece para siempre jamás. Amén.
